Day 1Some Reacher lords and knights may have arrived a day earlier, though the main influx to the campsite happens today, servants and squires navigates the baggage trains to their allotted spots in the field under a blue sky dotted with a few white clouds, the summer sun a bit too hot for such, some nobles may stay and oversee the arrangements, though most make for the shade while leaving others to do the unpacking. It is after all, many moons since the last time one might come together and catch up on news and gossip and speculate around with old friends and family from elsewhere in the Reach. Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/179/day-1-bread-salt-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/180/day-1-bittersteel-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/181/when-lord-willums-wife-event-Lord Bracken's son was slain by Blackwood men I heard. -So says Bittersteel, of course he would say that. -But he was murdered, and who else would do that, so close to Blackwood lands? -Whoever wants to set the Riverlands on fire? -Whatever Bittersteel might say, it is not Bloodraven, the king does not benefit from such acts. -The king would benefit plenty if Bittersteel were among the casualties. -That Lord Tyrell allows Bittersteel to have his own little hunting party out is a clear signal of Lord Tyrell's leanings. -Hah, those leanings are well known already, everyone with more wits than the gods gave a turnip knows that the entire point is to make the Reach lean with him. -I thought it was because both his son and daughter are of age to be married? -Yeah, good for him, he can shore up alliances for the times ahead. -I heard Lord Gormon wants Lady Amerei's hand for his son. -A powerful man, both him and Ser Laenor are the right sort to befriend for the highly ambitious. -Strongly in favour of Ser Daemon Blackfyre though, Lord Tyrell need no marriage to ensure his support. -What of Lord Florent's son? That is an alliance Highgarden could use. -Lord Reynald is a very shrewd man, very dangerous, for Lord Leo to grant his daughter to that house is to send a hostage. -Is there any man even half so disgusting as Lord Eldon Merryweather? -Most certainly in Dorne, but I am happy to say I know no Dornish man, so I cannot think of anyone specifically. -You two don't remember King Aegon? He was worse. -Oh, I don't know, he had whatever girl, noble or otherwise he fancied brought to his bed. Eldon has to settle for his smallfolk and whatever whores are available where he goes. -I heard that a lady might twirl him around her little finger, if she can endure his company and pretend to flirt with him. -That sounds dangerous, he is one of the most powerful men of the Reach, and likely to see even a single smile in his direction as consent. -If there ever was a woman that smiled genuinely at him, it must have been his mother. -Between Redtusk and the Longthorn, the Reach should secure victory in the joust. -Must be some secret vintage that the Redwynes keeps to themselves, with sons of such quality at the list. -Maybe this tourney we will see which Redwyne is the best? -Brother against brother? I hear that they will be drawing straws in the later rounds, so it could happen.

Day 2The sky has cleared entirely, the summer sun threatening to make the parade somewhat uncomfortably warm. The schedule of the day is packed, first the Princes and their retinue will arrive by the Roseroad where they will be join by Lord Tyrell and the chivalry of the Reach in procession to the sept where many young noble squires have been standing vigil throughout the night awaiting to receive their spurs. Then a great many knights will rush to the fields to have their names signed up for the joust and a place in the great parade in the afternoon before the highlight of the day when knights will seek to receive favors from the ladies. In the evening, Lord Gormon Peake have arranged for an elaborate costume ball in Lord Tyrell's gardens to delight the attendant nobility. For those paying attention to the ways the winds are blowing, it seems as if though a slight breeze has been picking up, threatening to become an ill wind to sour the mood for those who prefer the current occupant of the Iron Throne to remain unchallenged. When does he ever talk to anyone if it is not intended to further the Blackfyre cause? -Must be interested to see where House Durwell might swing. -Or sway them to his side. -Sway Lord Marq? That man can't even decide on a bride, how do you expect him to even pick a side? -These days, those two things are often one and the same. -So, when are the Appletons going to marry? -Appletons? The only women they are interested in are named sword and lance. -Something else must impress them, then? -Yeah, tourney prowess, problematic if you're a lady. -I heard that Lord Eldon Merryweather has asked all the other principal lords of the Reach for the hand of their daughters. -Isn't he, like betrothed to Lady Alicent? -Maybe he doesn't want to be? -Or maybe you're full of piss as usual, who wouldn't want to be betrothed to Lady Alicent. -Because she's Dornish? -She doesn't look like it. Yronwoods were trapped on the wrong side of the Red Mountains when Nymeria came to spread her poison. -Still, Dornish. -If all Dornish women looks like her and Ashara Starkwood and Falyse Blackbar I am trapped on the wrong side of the Red Mountains. -Would it not be wonderful to have Lord Durwell ride with your favor at the lists m'lady? -Perhaps, though half my peers will be giving him a very good look at their necklines in the hopes he fancies them. -I can see why m'lady, those curls, that face, his charms, and such a good horseman, I wouldn't mind a private riding lesson. -Hush, not so loud that the crazy septon finds out that you said those things. -But you have seen him m'lady? -Of course I have, and quit dreaming, according to Laena Pyre, he's the the very soul of chivalry, and if she couldn't seduce him, nobody can? -She did? I thought they were just having conversation? -Widowed bastard, she must have batted her eyelashes at him to try and get him to her bed and hope he is honorable enough to marry her after having done the deed. It's what bastards do. -M'lady sounds jealous, maybe you want to marry him and can't compete with a gorgeous silver haired daughter of a king, huh? -Oh shut it, Lord Marq will want an alliance with someone like Hightower, Peake or Rowan maybe even Tyrells, not some house which half the Reach doesn't even know exists. -Lord Eldon then? -I'm so glad that he is spoken for, but if you don't stop dreaming and start doing your chores, I might have you transferred to his service. Day 2 events resolved for Marq Durwell as if he has 2 higher chivalry. Special effects applies to the Steel and Ribbons event.-So, Quentyn Cordwayner and Ashara Starkwood, huh? -Strange, I should think Lady Maegelle would shoot down the marriage, a half-dornish that have been brought up in their wicked ways at Sunspear. -I wouldn't mind finding out what she's learned at Sunspear, the way she moves, she must be very flexible. -She is also a Starkwood, I thought Lady Cordwayner wanted to move her house up in the world, not down. -I heard it was Lord Ilyn's doing. -Lord Ilyn? Everyone knows who's wearing the trousers in that marriage. -Yes, well, it's still Lord Ilyn's doing, or so Ser Clarence says, Lady Maegelle is really furious. -The only one more full of piss than Ser Clarence is you. -Some very pointed accusation by young Ser Balon Blackbriar last night, I heard. -I was there, he said that Ser Walton Wyl is a cuckold that fucks his horse. -Is that why he always rides a mare in heat? I thought it was for cheating at the joust only. -Spoken by Ser Balon, fostered at Starpike, squired to Fireball, he should be hanged like with his fellow traitors. Ser Balon is now known as a Blackyre supporter.-That crazy septon from Blackbriar is ranting about how Ashara Starkwood is pure as the driven snow! -The one who never shuts up about hellfire? It must be true. -Blast damn, I thought I had a chance with her. Her legs go on for days! -Don't let the septon hear you say that, he'll have the Tyrells flog you for slander. -I heard that Denyse Cordwayner was seen slipping into the Redwyne camp last night. -Another lover? That girl will end up with a Flower in the belly by the end of the tourney. -She'll lift her skirts for any highborn knight; the higher the birth, the faster the lift. -Then I'd wager she ends up in Lord Merryweather's bed soon enough, she wouldn't say 'no' to one of his birth. The Steel and Ribbons event is resolved for Denyse Cordwayner as if her virtue is 1 less.-Very curious that Lord Leo would allow Bittersteel to hunt in his woods prior to the great royal hunt. -Curious? Everyone knows that Lord Leo is an admirer of Ser Daemon Blackfyre, what's curious is his company. -Such as? -Ser Addam Velaryon and Ser Daeron Waters of the Kingsbridge Companions, one is Lady Lysette's cousin, the other a Great Bastard. -So the Starlings leans fire? -The companions does, old Lord Willem probably prefers to keep himself above such squabbles. Ser Addam and Ser Daeron are now known as Blackfyre supporters

Day 3A few white clouds dot the sky, hopes for cooler weather, or at least a gentle breeze for the joust seems faint. One must have a very meticulous mind to just keep track of everything that transpired the day and especially the night before, Lord Hightower has been murdered by poison! Favors were handed out to knights, duels were issued, the prince knighted Preston Oakheart and Lord Gormon's highly delightful masquerade ball has been so full of scheming and plotting that men might think that if kept up at this rate, open rebellion will be sparked on the tourney grounds. On the third day of the tournament, Lord Leo has scheduled a great hunt in the honor of his royal guests, departure must be delayed because of his desire to pay his respect to Lord Hightower at the sept, but Lord Jon would not have wished for anything to be cancelled, and so thing must go on as planned. The flames of politics has been fanned, if it weren't obvious before, the more astute is likely to sense that these few days might very well contain the point in time when war between brothers and neighbors became inevitable. Blood: 10 Fire: 7 Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/338/day-3-remembrance-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/339/day-great-royal-hunt-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/340/day-3-knights-mind-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/341/jolly-mood-great-hall-event-You saw Ser Imry Levalle just ride past his wife in the stands today? -Sure did, what man would possibly not honor is wife, it makes no sense. -I heard it say that the man feels snubbed by getting married into his lands rather than earning them. -Wasn't it also something about him and his wife not even sharing quarters? -No matter how displeased he might be with his marriage, a good looking lady like that, I mean, does he prefer men or something? -Not if his visits to the Perfurmed Lady offers any suggestions. - Can you believe it? Lord Jon Hightower himself, dead! - Aye, the was of quite an age you fool. The surprise is that an assassin accounted for him, not his age. - I say it was the Fossoways. - Why would they strike at Lord Hightower? - You may be too young to remember it, but his first wife was a Fossoway, and the stories of her passing were never clear. Poison is a woman's weapon afterall, so apt were she to be avenged by it. - Long in the past. Far more like it was the Caswells. Aegon the Third decreed they were to share the cost of rebuilding Bitterbridge with the Caswell's, but Lord John dragged his feet, then convinced Aegon the Unworthy to undo the deal. Many in House Caswell bore a grudge against Lord Hightower over this matter. - That would be most curious: Lord Armond Caswell has always been against reopening that dispute. - A ruse to deflect attention from this very revenge perhaps? House Hightower's heir is a boy of only five, easier to press a claim against a young lord or a regent. Or perhaps a challenge to his cautious ways from frustrated parties within his own house... +2 Blood- Ser Walton Wyl has thrown down the gauntlet to Ser Balon Blackbriar. - He had to, surely? No man could show himself at court if he allowed such talk to go unchallenged. - What has the Reach come to however, if men tell outlandish tales then seek to prove them at the end of a sword? - Pfft, cease your quibbling, you sound half-Dornish yourself or like some sickly maester. If it removes another of those Dornish vipers from court and replaces him with an honest Andal, ideally from the Reach, then count me happy. -All the finest knights of the realm flock to the banners of the black dragon. -Isn't that already true, I mean Robb Reyne, Redtusk and Longthorn are already known as such? -Now also Lord Durwell, riding for Lady Tanda and Ser Roland Cordwayner for Lady Janna, Peake and Hightower are both in Ser Daemon's camp. -Didn't Lady Daena Roxton chose Redtusk? A signal if I ever saw one. -I heard that the Baratheons might be swayed to our righteous cause! -If so, nothing can stand against the might of the Reach and the Stormlands, victory is assured. +1 Fire-Did you hear Lord Hightower dropped dead at the Masquerade Ball? -Yeah. Too bad. He missed a great party. I haven't drank that much wine in weeks. -You mean days. -Maybe, but not free wine. Lord Gorman Peake sure knows how to throw a party! -That's true. I hope he throws more. Dull as dirt most of the others. -I'll go to any party he throws from now on. -You just want more free wine. -Yeah, but I can get free wine anywhere. Getting good entertainment is rare. -I hear the Levalle crazy guy was there, helping. -Yeah, but he knows his stuff. Made Hightower's body disappear like a magic trick. Whole evening came off without a hitch. -Not for Lord Hightower. +1 Fire- Did you see Falyse Blackbar today? - Poor girl, snubbed by Denyse Cordwayner at the bread & salt and then passed over by so many knights she hoped to give her favor to. - I hear she had eyes for Ser Quentin Cordwayner too, but his family wouldn't allow the match on account of her Dornish mother. - That doesn't make sense. They accepted Ashara Starkwood and she's just as Dornish. - There's more to that story, mark my words. - Bittersteel and Otho Bracken are mad dogs that will stop at nothing to put Blackfyre on the throne. - I hear they got somethin' planned for the tourney. - Aye, if they have their way there will be more than a little Dornish blood spilled. - That don't bother me much. Them Dornishmen killed my da at the pass. - Maybe, but from what I hear no one with Dornish blood will be safe. It starts with Ser Walton Wyl, but it swiftly moves on to women, children, even princes. - That's Fireball and the Blackhorn, them Brackens is out for settling Riverlands scores, like poor Ser Mikel and Lord Blackwood most of all. +1 Blood- Those fools favoring Blackfyre have no idea what they're doing. - You'd best watch your tongue, this is no place to be named a friend to Dorne. - It has nothing to do with Dorne. You have only to see with clear eyes what is gained versus what is lost. - What are you babbling about now? - Under Daeron the Kingdoms prosper as never before. People are fed. The Watch keeps folk safe. The King's council is made of men who give wise advice, rather than men who could pay the most. - Aye, but we could have all that and not coddle the godless Dorne! - There are many ways to bring men to the fold; swordpoint is perhaps the least of them. Consider too how this time of Daeron's plenty has let coffers open to the septs. So many being restored to their former glory, so many new ones being built. Consider that even Dornish may be persuaded to change their ways when they see such splendor. This is the King's genius...bring them in, and show them the benefits of the better path. - Perhaps, friend...perhaps. +1 Blood-Did you see Alena Flowers at the ribbon ceremony? -You think me blind, her teets were practically all but falling out of her gown, and her legs, that skirt must be of Dornish make. -I heard that at Sunspear, the ladies wear gowns entirely of that fabric, and without any smallclothes, they're nearly naked. -Her father must have bought it for her, the Levalle's trade in anything. -Yeah, typically of Levalle's, set their bastards to seduce good and honest knights, like Ser Simon Tarly. -Wearing a bastard's favor, good going for her though, but only a bastard would offer herself up so blatantly. - One of Bittersteel's men was deep in his cups, and admitted something he shouldn't have done. - Oh? - It wasn't Blackwood men who killed Ser Daven, it was Bittersteel and his men. He's a kinslayer, and his man's complicity in the act is haunting him. - That's a pile of shit! Why would he kill his own kinsman just to make the Blackwoods look bad? - He's trying to draw the King's attention and resources to the Riverlands by igniting a conflict there, so he and other Blackfyre supporters can move more freely here. - Wonder what Ser Daemon himself thinks about the acts committed in his name. - Until he steps up to stop them, he's complicit, regardless. +1 Blood- Did you hear Butterbumps about the Hightower runt? - You put stock into what that fool says? - More often than not he speaks with some kernel of truth. It's why we put up with him. - So, what if his heir isn't really his blood? His wife's not going to be too quick to confirm anything if it means her grandson is no longer set to be a lord. - Maybe someone makes it so that it can't be confirmed? - By killing her? - Or maybe him. Then you get a boy heir you can control and a regnant mother wholly in your debt. - That's certainly one way to ensure Hightower stays loyal to the Blackfyre cause... - Wonder how the other lords feel about the murder of one of their own? - I can't imagine they'd be sitting comfortably if they have any skeletons of their own to worry about. - I couldn't name one without if you paid me a thousand dragons. +1 Blood- Daemon's supporters play at knightly virtue, but their deeds prove this is naught but a mummer's farce. - How so? - This nonsense with their barely concealed catspaw, Ser Balon Brackbriar. - Aye, all know him from his service as Fireball's squire and now as that man's creature. - It demeans the very oaths they profess to protect, spewing filth about a man and then gambling on abusing a challenge to lend their outlandish words support. - Indeed, you do not see Prince Baelor twist honour by naming Daemon's friends rapists and cowards, then "proving" his words by the strength of his lance. - By the Seven that are one you're right man. Even is Prince Baelor is too good a man to stoop so low, I half wish he or someone else would, but better to retain the high ground and stick to knocking those that whisper against the King in to the mud. No great mischief and few tears shed if some of them did not rise from being knocked down. - Not only the true royal blood, but the true knightly manner and deeds rest with the King's supporters. We need to show this at the tourney, and if it takes a few solid tilts and broken bones, so be it. +1 Blood- Have you seen Prince Baelor? He is the very image of a knight, unlike that embarrassing maester of a father he has. - Aye, the King should wear a maester's chain and leave the throne to stronger men if we're to face down foes. But I cannot agree with you on the Prince? - No? Why not pray tell, he is everything the father is not. He has the build of a strong knight. - Aye, he looks right knightly, the very image of a knight. A Dornish knight. - Seven be kind you're right, he looks more Martell than Targaryen. He can't be the Prince of Dorne however, as the Crown ludicrously allowed them to keep their Princely titles. For shame! - Worse still awaits. The golden hair that adorns many of the maidens of the reach will quickly pass if such marriages are forced across the Kingdoms, all in the name of peace, eh? - Why, we'd lose our noble Andal bearing, our very look and identity would be bred out of us in a few generations. - He's too noble to make a move himself, but someone may have to push Ser Daemon to act before this nightmare comes to pass. We can hardly rely on fops like Ser Ambrose Butterwell to protect the realm. +1 Fire- It is a fine thing to be here in the Reach, surrounded by men of honour and ladies of virtue. - Quite agreed, ser, quite agreed. Why, I am just returned from King's Landing, which is quite the mirror image. - Really? - I am afraid so. It is overrun with Dornishmen, and indeed their women too. Scandalously clad, and abominably fond of taking the lead and mounting their men. - I hear their men are no better, liable to be every woman's man, and every man's woman. - No wonder the royal court is such a lusty place, for the king himself may be a bastard, born of lust and lies. The "king" was hinted at by his own father to bastard born, underlined when the late King gave Ser Daemon Blackfyre the sword he is named for. - Well, if things are as you say then when Ser Daemon brings Blackfyre to the capital to purge the vile displays there he is like to find himself cleaving through lace and Myrish under-garments rather than steel. - Ha, he'd probably catch them unawares, so fixated are they on pleasures of the flesh. +1 Fire- Walgrave Oakheart is a fool, turning would be friends to foes. He cannot see beyond his hatred of Dorne to recognise the honour a Targaryen prince does him in knighting his son. - The old warhorse has done his time, he should take a black cloak to better match his grey hairs, leave his seat to Ser Preston. A younger man can better steer the house, less guided by the hatreds of the past. - Walgrave has always been a hypocrite. Taken prisoner by the Dornish and ransomed back, yet taking no prisoners himself subsequently in the Prince's Pass. He treats his brother's bastard abominably, when Ser Jasper Flowers is more gallant than many true-born knights. - Does it surprise you? Ser Daemon himself is the image of chivalry, but for too many of his so-called friends and supporters knightly vows are merely a fig-leaf covering petty ambition. Lord Oakheart cannot stand to have a better swordsman than the rest of his family under his roof. - Quite so. Many of the anti-Dornish faction seek to promote their own prowess, but are only able to do so by excluding and diminishing skilled warriors on petty pretexts. Lord Oakheart probably fears Prince Baelor took ownership of his son's other seat when he unseated the boy when the lad was a mystery knight. He's so insecure in his manhood that he'll turn his son's honour into his own shame. - A shame, Prince Baelor is happily married and a holy, honourable man. I half suspect his son was conceived with him atop, his eyes affixed on the Seven Pointed Star, rather than the outlandish tales of the acrobatic escapades that are alleged to take place in the capital. +1 Blood- The Fireball is gathering men at this very moment to take the crown by force - A quick thinker you are Ned, of course he does, been doing that for a long time now - No you don't listen. He does it here at Highgarden! You think Lord Hightower will be the only death by the end of the Tourney? He'll have Daeron II killed on the fields of Roses - Go sleep of your drinking spree, the king isn't even here. +1 Blood- Miracle of miracles, Fireball's wife has resurfaced from the Septry he condemned her to in his failed attempt to gain the white cloak he covets. - Ha, so I heard, but this Silent Sister seemed to have found her tongue. - I pity whoever faces Ser Quentyn Ball in the lists, as our Fireball is likely to be even fierier than usual after that tongue lashing. - That jokes about his Fireballs is on many lips this morning, it will be hard for the man to live it down, as fine a knight as he is. +1 Blood- Lord Thaddeus Rowan may have been instrumental in bringing Dorne in to the realm, but what does that say of the man? Who could tour such a wanton place where women rule over men and come back convinced it would be an asset to the realm? - Naked female club duelling. It's an annual fixture at each holdfast in the Reach, or so you cousin tells me. - Ha, between that and a trip to the stables with Ser Walton Wyl, Lord Rowan was doubtless convinced of Dorne's charms. - You've got to laugh or cry at the misfortune that has befallen the Realm, and this makes as much sense as any other explanation I've heard. - Mayhap he fancies turning Dornish and letting his lady wife rule, while he himself lets his eyes take in the fulll glory of Dorne's unconventional tourney circuit. - Seven forbid. +2 Fire- Did you hear that Lady Alicent slipped away from the masquerade to cavort with some young gentleman? - No, who told you that? - Why, I heard it from Butterbumps himself! - Your source is the fool? The Maiden weeps at such nonsense. - Far from it, such matters surely fall within his purview. You'd take commentary on jousting from Longthorn, and on the other sort of jousting from Lord Butterbumps. - Ha, good point. Dornish woman are hot blooded and wild, so such is not unexpected. - True, filthy creatures. Can't blame her either mind, seeking some solace before she's we to that beast Lord Merryweather at long last. - She's worked her way through Dorne's men, and continues her tour in the Reach. - Ser Otho Bracken may be among the Realm's fiercest warriors, but he is also among its least subtle. - What makes you say that? - His "pursuit" of Lady Ysilla Flowers' favour. He seeks not the bastard's token to ride with, but to silence Ser Mikel. - Ah, now the matter makes more sense. That up-jumped little knight had spoken ill off his better over some matter in the Riverlands, if my memory is correct. - Indeed, I suspect Ser Otho intends to make an example of Ser Mikel, and this challenge is a convenient route towards that end. As clear as a pane of Myish glass. - What a tourney in prospect, to start with a four-way challenge for the Lady Shiera Seastar's favour. - What a scandal more like, whoever heard of giving out to favours. What if the two knights should meet later? - Fie on that, everyone has got what they want: the chance to see Bittersteel tilt with Blood Raven. Ser Aegor gave marginally the better showing in the parade and has a hungry look about his, so my dragons are on him. - It will be some match, two fine and charismatic knights competing. - Ser Aerion Flower's match against Lord Roland Leygood brings two fine jousters together too, it augurs well that what would serve as a final at a lesser event shall merely serve as our opening. - Pah, keep your jousting circuit details to yourself. All eyes will be on the clash between the great bastards. - A mixed blessing for Lady Amerei Tyrell. Half the finest knights in the realm at her tournament to honour her, yet the one knight she was making glances at seeks out Lady Tanda Peake instead. - Oh indeed, if looks could kill the Stranger would have swept Lady Tanda away there and then, such was Amerei's baleful gaze. She was intent on the handsome Marq Durwell, still one of the Realm's most eligible men at the age of thirty. - Amerei and a score of other ladies wanted Marq to wear their favour, and half the men want to be him. - Still, by the end of the day Amerei seemed intent on seeing her champion smash Tanda's in to the dirt. - There are few men here who would have the edge against Lord Durwell, but Amerei chose wisely if that is her aim. Ser Robb Reyne is among the best jousters here. - Indeed, the Red Lion of Castamere is likely to be among the final riders, and Amerei is likely to be cheering him on to upstage Lady Tanda, particularly if their champions are matched in a later round.

Day 4A clear sky greets the first day of jousting, with so many interesting matches in round one that this must surely become a tourney to remember. If the first three days haven't done so already, lords, knights and ladies trying to play politics over Lord Jon's corpse and a septa murdered in an assault upon Lady Alicent Yronwood overshadows the feats of Ser Aladale in the hunt, there are some light entertainments planned today, but most eyes will be fixed upon the clash of Bittersteel and Bloodraven and that of Ser Balon Blackbriar against Ser Walton Wyl. While the roaring boil of political pot have subsided to a gentle simmering, there are plenty who wish to stir it violently. Blood: 11 Fire: 7 Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/364/jousting-format?page=1&scrollTo=5248greatbastards.boards.net/thread/384/day-4-smallfolks-tournament-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/385/day-4-archery-contest-event-Talk is that the Maesters concluded that King Daeron's claim is true and undisputed. -That old men's club managed to agree on something? -Some young unknown seemed to somehow impress them, must be a prodigy or something. -A conclave held by the king's maester concludes that the king is the rightful claimaint? That's a shock. +1 Blood-Ser Imry Levalle spoke loudly about how he would "have his pleasure" with his wife in the Hall last night. -So? It's his wife, he can have his pleasure whenever he likes. -It was suggested that he didn't perform his marriage duties, so he declared that he would disprove that, and promptly left. -Not much sleep for her tonight, then. -Gods forbid to think of what might have happened if Ser Roland wasn't there. -He couldn't save the Septa, though. -At least she died quick, Lady Alicent though, a pretty face like that, she wouldn't die quick, not before they'd taken their pleasure first. -Pity they couldn't expose Lord Eldon as their employer, though, I want to see that piggy squeal. -You think he'd still be a lord if he wasn't clever enough to get away with his depravities? -I think it's mostly because he only rapes his own smallfolk on his own lands. -Ser Aladale caught the white stag! -Pffft, stroke of luck is all. -Not luck, the Levalle's forked out a king's ransom for huntsmen to do the work while they followed at a leisurely pace. -And Lord Leo did not have his master of the hunt with him the last three times he tried? -So, luck? -Yeah, and getting the best odds money can buy. -Has Septon Abelar no shame? -Well, it is irregular, but the jerkass has a point, Lord Tyrell is soft. -So, torture as entertainment for the masses? -The masses would love it. -Yeah, but Lord Tyrell is so gallant, only doing hangings and the wall. -As I said, soft. -Lord Hightower isn't even cold before the vultures comes to push their agendas. -Pushing that will be cut short, all the best knights signed up to end their fortunes in the first round. -What's the odds of an upset, I wonder? -Huh? -Well, the stakes have been raised, who's to say someone won't want to play for keeps? -The hawk that danced so well has a bounty on her head. -Why? What did she do? -Nobody knows, but Gardenton is crawling with unsavory men offering gold for any leads. -Obviously, someone knows what she did. -Word is that Gardenton is crawling with charlatans hoping to get some of that gold. -I heard that Ser Lewyn Rowan had a little bit too much drink last night. -Poisoned more like, that man is far too prudent to take so much that he's nearly dead in the morning. -If that is true, someone must have plans for the joust this day.... The effective TN for being discovered attempting dishonorable tactics in the joust is 6 during day 4.-I overheard Ser Balon Blackbriar saying he was going to kill Ser Walton Wyl. -Why would he do that? he might hate the Dornish, but he gets nothing for it. -Ser Quentyn Ball told him to. Ser Balon squired for him. -If Ser Quentyn wanted Ser Walton dead he'd do it himself. -Not if he still wants a spot on the Kingsguard. Better to let another ruin their reputation. - I think I've figured out the mystery of why only Ser Balon Blackbriar would volunteer to carry the beautiful Denyse Cordwayner's favour in the joust. - Oh, do tell. - Well, all the knights of good repute wouldn't touch her with a bargepole after the scandalous talk of her sneaking in to camps late at night, so only that wild Blackbriar lad was willing to go near the trollop. - That makes sense. It also explains something I'm sure I saw at the masquerade ball. - What's that? - Well, it is hard to be certain with all the masks, but I'm convinced I saw Ser Balon sneak off with Lady Denyse for her to "reward" him for saving her from greater shame at the parade. - That makes sense, her repaying him with her favourite coin. Such sounds in character for both of them. - By the Seven, did you hear of Septon Abelar's conduct earlier at the tourney? - Aye, he exploded at Septon Unwin over some trifle, near shouted the whole camp down. - Then you've already heard. Shameful behaviour. - Agreed. Septon Unwin is a fat fuck of a man, but it isn't very becoming to launch in to such tirades at fellow men of the faith. - Did you see that mystery knight at the parade? - This "Knight of Hammers"? What of him? - I think I've figured who it is. - Who, pray tell? - It must be Ser Robyn of The Prince's Pass, given the weapon chosen and his success riding down his opponents in brutal style. - That makes sense, the Levalles gave their pet thug a knightly title to procure themselves a murderously effective champion. - Quite so. Watch this "mystery knight" closely and you'll see evidence of Ser Robyn's characteristic strength, but also his poorer horsemanship than knights of noble blood, as he is lowborn and did not ride until he was older. - House Tyrell are divided - the Longthorn does not carry his whole house with him. - Lord Tyrell is willing to listen to advice, which I account a good thing. As a knight of prowess and renown he naturally has sympathies to Ser Daemon's claim. - His heir, Ser Willas Tyrell seems not to have fully committed himself to King Daeron's side or Ser Daemon's. - He's a fine knight who may even grow to match his father's prowess, but you're right that he's hard to read. - Indeed, a quiet young man in marked contrast to many boisterous knights of his age. - I am so envious of Lady Tanda Peake - I would have been the terror of the court if I had half her looks when I was her age. - You would have been the terror of your poor Septa too! - And to have the handsome Lord Marq Durwell bearing her favour too, the girl must feel as if she is living in a song. - Ah, to be young again. He is likely to go far in the tourney - perhaps the singers can do a verse for each round? - "Tanda's Tourney" has a nice ring to it, mayhap it will be sung at her wedding feast to Lord Durwell? After all, he is as yet unwed. - Poor Amerei, overshadowed at her own tourney. - Did you hear what Ser Balon Blackbriar was going on about today? - How could I not? All that shouting about Dornish blades and poison? At a septa's procession no less! - Poor choice to speak, not necessarily poor choice of words. - But is any of it true? Lord Jon I can believe but Lady Alicent is Dornish.... - I hear her skin color is wrong. Too Andal I suppose. Plus she's yet to be married to Lord Piggy. Get rid of her and find some other Dornish slut to spread he legs. - So if it's blades and poison what do we do? - Watch what you eat and who's at your back. - I guess that's what happens when the king lets the Dornish run amok.

Day 5There's a little bit of wind and a few clouds about, both things welcome in this heat. But nothing seems to cool down the rising tensions. A man can be forgiven for losing track of it all. The King's master at arms lies dead, it looked very much like an accident, but suspicions of foul play run deep on account of the savage words that brought him to face Ser Balon's lance. A widely shared opinion is also that Ser Otho Bracken deliberately attempted to murder Ser Mikel of Harroway at the list, a dishonorable act compounded by Ser Otho's savage insult of Lord Alliser Levalle and his family in response to such accusation, though the number of swords drawn in support of The Tear indicates exactly what the chivalry of the Reach thinks of his acts. And then there was the close call avoiding deadly panic during the hanging in the morning. All this casting long shadows over what the tourney is supposed to be about, the epic match between Lord Tyrell and Ser Garth Redwyne, how Bloodraven almost managed to win the prized Dragonbone longbow and a few upsets and dazzling displays. And now the wind is spreading something about how House Merryweather has wronged House Starling, though details are scarce. Blood: 11 Fire: 9 Events: greatbastards.boards.net/post/6566greatbastards.boards.net/thread/451/day-5-burden-leadership-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/452/day-5-patron-arts-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/453/day-5-gossip-girls-event-Arrows were let loose as Denyse Cordwayner confronted Mya Rivers. Flaming arrows. Soaked in wildfire. -What? -Lady Denyse called the Great Bastard a liar, that she put out rumors about her and Balon. -I take it Lady Mya didn't retract the statement? -No, not at all. She kept embellishing about how Ser Balon in his wolf-mask had his way with Denyse and that woman in the sheep costume "and who knows whoever else?" -She mustn't have liked that at all. -A most unladylike response, huffing and puffing, names were called, bastard one of them. Mya just sat there and waited her out. -For this tourney, that doesn't sound much like flaming arrows. Where's the wildfire. -Mya said this, and I kid you not. "Bastard, huh? Says the girl that obviously wasn't sired by timid little no-good Ilyn Cordwayner, how could he even perform when faced with a harridan like Maegelle? Surely, Ser Normyn having sired you would explain just about everything, your golden locks, your propensity for lifting skirts." -She said that?! That's a mouth almost as bad as Ser Otho and Ser Balon, what's been spilled into the Trident I wonder? -Well, curious thing, where those two just wanted to pick fights with obvious slander, this is crafted to stick and seed doubts about just about everything. -Is this a tourney or this a deadly game for the throne? "Any day 5 rumor action intending to push the Cordwayners towards fire gains +1D"-Lady Ashara Starkwood has the right of it, Ser Balon and Ser Otho makes a mockery of the chivalric order. -Aye, them and Lord Oakheart and whoever allowed the Knight of Hammers to pound Ser Zachery so, they say all these things of the Dornish but are no better with their actions. -I've always thought Ser Daemon was a fine knight, but a man's friends define him. -Ser Addam Velaryon spoke true, King Daeron's religious reforms have embolden the faith -Yeah, the cries of "Blood, then Fire" have lead even more violence. -A septon questioning a lord's decision bodes for bad times. Not since the times of Aenys I have the faith been so bold. -It won't just be Dornish Vipers that will see the realm bleed, but a new faith militant! -This is how it begins, the fever that turns good men cruel, the rage brought forth by Septon Abelar. -All he did was to spread his brand of fiery hell to whatever fool would listen. -And you're the fool for not seeing the similarities, remember the tale of Septon Murmison. -He who was cut to pieces for wedding Aegon and Aenys? Isn't that a bit harsh? -Who knows what would have happened if men like Ser Roland and Ser Daeron had not been on hand to save that poor woman from being trampled to death? -There would be many more trampled to death if not for Ser Parmen and Ser Donnel. -What? Because they shouted for order? Come on! -Goes to show that Lord Tyrell and all these knights that complain about being replaced at the King's Court doesn't understand that if the murderers of septa's aren't properly punished, there will only be pain and chaos as every villain may do as he pleases. -No, that's just Septon Abelar pushing his mad agenda! -He found ample kindling to set ablaze. - Did you hear? Ser Daemon Blackfyre finally got sick of those who claim to be acting in his name behaving so poorly. - Can't say I'm surprised, given the events of the joust, and that was just the first day! - Yeah, he specifically named Sers Otho and Balon for actions unbecoming of a knight. He said that their actions made a mockery of the knightly oath, and that if they were to pay so little attention to their oath, they should have never made it. - Strong words. Good to see him taking a stand. Hopefully it will curtail the terrible behavior we've seen so far, and see things return to normal. -So what happened between Ser Balon and Lady Ashara? -I heard she slapped him. -I heard he showed her. -He should have rammed her good and proper, only way to put a Dornish wench in her place. -Out in public? -Well, no. In the Perfumed Lady where her kind belongs. -Whatever the case, Lady Maegelle Cordwayner discussed the matter at length with Lord Ulbert and Lady Ashara, apparently she left satisfied. -What does that hag have to do with this? -Her daughter gave Ser Balon her favor to wear. -Ah, Denyse skirtlifter...now this is getting real interesting. - Did you see how Walgrave Lord Oakheart rode down Lord Lyman Webber? - Aye, three lances broken on each side is normally a sign of a fine match. They even unhorsed each other at the third pass! - Lord Oakheart rode in quite the brutal style, making for a contrast with Lord Webber's more refined approach, mayhap he mistook him for a Dornishman! I swear he was aiming for the armpit at times rather than the breastplate or shield. His lance goes where he wills. - True, true. Oakheart's tactics may have seen him progress, but finesse wins more honour if you're able to proceed in such a fashion. - It was good fortune that Lord Webber was only slightly injured. If the Stranger had beckoned Lord Webber such tactics would have prompted far more talk. - Indeed, Lord Oakheart may have progressed but the commons cheered loudly when they saw the noble Lord Webber had survived. - As I've always said, the only good Dornish is a dead Dornish. The King's peace just means some of this has to be dished out at tourneys rather than on the battlefield. - We almost had a second dead Dornishman beyond Ser Walton Wyl. - Ha, you're not wrong, Ser Zachery Blackbar took quite the battering from the Knight of Hammers. - Zachery is only half-Dornish, so it seems apt that he was only half-dead by the time our mystery knight was done with him. - The Knight of Hammers aims his lance well, the tourney master knows that from the preliminary tilt. It may well have been an insult to House Blackbar to set up that match - not just a mystery knight but a competent one seemingly intent on doing harm. -Lord Willem spoke of holding a tournament to settle the matter of his daughter's hand. -Seriously? Ser Aemon Flowers did not prove himself worthy by unseating Ser Sebaston? -Maybe he prefers Ser Sebaston? -Opening the field to someone like Ser Balon Blackbriar? Most unwise. -More like leaving the path clear for Redtusk, I wager. -If he knows who he wants, he might as well just ask him? -Mya Rivers knows how to say it, lots of talking, little action. -Bittersteel let his anger get the better of him, so clouded were his vision that Bloodraven easily had him. -Maybe, he also did not aim well, I thought both would find themselves on the ground, an inch to the left and the full force would be savage. -Shiera seems to favor Bloodraven though, but he is in for long odds against his next opponent. -Something smells, and it's not Ser Walton's corpse. -Yeah, goaded into a duel by Ser Balon, the tourney master suddenly having to spend the day on the privy and now he's dead. -Set up for slaughter, looks like. -Ser Balon struck him with all the anger and fury of a young man, as if on some holy crusade. -Likely he thinks of himself as such, he squired for Fireball remember. -But he struck the torso as a proper knight should, most men would have lived. -Except he did not, and if the sparks of rebellion lights the fire, King Daeron will have to fight it without his most able commander. -When the rebellion comes, not if, odds are that a thousand more will die for the Red Dragon and a thousand less for the Black with him gone. +2 Fire- Did you hear that racket between Lord Alliser Levalle and Ser Otho Bracken? - You would call me a liar if I claimed to have missed it, given the volume the exchange took place at so soon after the tilting finished. - Such words from Ser Otho! I am surprised the ears of half the court did not blister and fall off. - Much of it true, given how the Levalle's benefited from the rule of King Aegon the Unworthy. Lord Levalle answered the insults in kind, and will doubtless have no shortage of those bold enough to face Ser Otho despite the blow he struck to Ser Mikel's face earlier that day. - Even a swine like Lord Levalle had to answer such a challenge, lest the shame that rightly attaches itself to his name more deeply attach itself to his wife and children. - We shall see if he can scheme some past tourney victory in to riding in his honour, or whether it falls to Ser Imry Levalle to protect what little honour is left to his father. - Ser Parmen Redwyne and Ser Daeron Waters are both fine knights and were among the first to volunteer their service. -Lucky for Ser Otho Bracken that Lady Ysilla is not a man, the fire burning so hot in her eyes would spell his doom with lance in hand. -So did he do it? Trying to kill him, I mean? -Yeah, no doubt about it, tried to aim for the head twice, an honorable knight would have thrown down his shield in surrender if his lance even strayed there by accident. -How about Ser Mikel? Is he alright, then? -Alive, but the maester doesn't want him out of bed for a week last I heard. -The maester would have to tie me to that bed to keep me from jousting for Ysilla's favor. Any Blood-supporting rumor-action targeting Otho Bracken gains +4 on day 5, if bonus wasn't used on day 4- Lady Lyanna Levalle was missing last night, I have it on good account from my servants. - From your tone this sounds like scandal rather than a repeat of the recent unpleasantness Highgarden has suffered! I beg you my lady, do tell! - Well, she was not to be found in either the Levalle camp or among her birth family of House Florent last night. - Ooh, perhaps she warms the beds of some rugged hedge knight beneath the stars. - The scandal does not end there! - Ha, the Levalle are never far from impropriety. - Ser Imry Levalle did not even seek out his lady wife, while you can be sure that nine knights in ten would have scoured the camp for her, had their places been reversed. - Who doesn't dream of being rescued by the dashing Lord Durwell, after all? - Quite the match between Ser Orton Hightower and Ser Aladale Levalle! - Indeed, few would have expected Ser Orton to lose that match, he'd be among the favourites in a local tournament and was expected to go far even in this exalted company. - Ser Aladale is no stranger to the tourney circuit, but tends to fall after giving a good account of himself in the first few rounds. Perhaps striving for the lovely lady Tanda Peake's favour inspired him? - Pah, if we spoke of another family I too would argue the romantic outcome and believe that a fair maiden inspired him. Lady Tanda is quite the prize in character, appearance and station. - But you suspect differently? - Ser Aladale is no young gallant - he has a bastard of his own and he is a Levalle man, lest we forget. - Meaning? - I suspect either outrageous good fortune at best or at worst a bribe. Ser Orton's squire may not have secured a saddle strap adequately, I've seen him ride clean through far harder blows in the past from Ser Donnel Blackbriar. - A bribe would not be out of character for the Levalles, I suppose. Let us hope that is not the case and that there's merely some squire in good need of a thrashing. - Well said, or else tongues will begin to wag at what Ser Orton hoped to gain from the Levalles with Hightower's leadership in flux. Perhaps it was the squire that was bribed, not his master?.. - That would be cheaper and typical of the Levalles exploiting people! Still, the small folk loved the upset. - Such fortune to have a tilt like that of Lord Tyrell and Ser Garth Redwyne on the first day. The Longthorn against a Kingsguard knight! - Indeed, seldom would two favourites face each other so early but for the unpleasantness at Lord Hightower's remembrance. - Still, the quality of the match will help its circumstances be forgiven and forgotten. - Particularly among the smallfolk. How they cheered when Lord Tyrell removed Ser Garth's helm, and then harder still when the white cloaked knight bravely continued. - Still, it was as nothing compared to the applause when Lord Tyrell declared the match a draw, despite finally unhorsing Ser Garth on the sixth pass! - Indeed, I feared for my hearing. - The only men who looked disappointed were some of the favourites, who hoped that the match meant one of the favourites was guaranteed to fall early. - A petty concern, here's to the Longthorn! What a match! - It will make quite the song if the same pairing is repeated in the final.

Day 6Pretty much all that is talked about at the moment is the villainy of Lord Eldon Merryweather, few believe his claims of innocence. That the girl came willingly to his bed is widely considered to be by far the most blatant lie told so far this tourney. Even the most cynical and pragmatic have been overheard grumbling that maybe there should be made an exception just this once, to a Lord getting away with a crime just because the victim is lowborn with no highborn witnesses to confirm her story. The approval for Lord Willem's response is unanimous, and most hope that the cousin of Ser Bryce the Blackguard, Ser Theon Goldstag that escaped the net will face justice in the fourth round, several have suggested that Ser Vardis of Kingsbridge should be granted the honors, undoubtedly hoping that Ser Theon would face the same fate as Ser Kevan Oakheart. Ser Daemon's duel against Ser Otho Bracken also feature heavily on the talking points, apparently Highgarden has mostly forgotten about Red and Black Dragons with everything else going on, but as the still white clouds gather on the horizon, such issues are sure to return. Blood: 11 Fire: 9 Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/510/day-6-battle-enactment-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/511/day-6-sided-contest-eventRumors:- That was like something from the songs, Lord Starling challenging the foul Lord Merryweather on behalf of a maiden and so many noble knights following him. - True, they made quite the chivalrous scene, all bright armour and skilled horsemanship in the sun. Lord Willum, Ser Roland Redwyne and many more! - A bold way to protest mistreatment of a mere craftsman's daughter, but such should not surprise us from the Starlings. - What else could they do? Would Lord Tyrell even take the matter to trial with it being but a peasant's accusation of rape against a Lord and one of his knights? - You may be right. Lord Merryweather made himself scarce yesterday. His his depredations are riskier and now take place outside Longtable's safety, but it may take more direct evidence to fully hold him to account. - Such may prove hard, unless he has boasted to nobles, shames himself in front of high ranking witnesses or one of his cohorts betrays him and gives Lord Tyrell or the Crown sworn evidence. - Mayhap - there are always men of greed and ambition, but such seems unlikely for now, they are presumably well rewarded or well cowed by Lord Merryweather. Let us instead drink to Lord Starling and his Companions! - Agreed, a fine showing, even if it were just a show rather than true justice against Lord Merryweather. - Ser Daeron has had quite the unconventional trio of tilts, all three ending with swords on foot. The crowd has loved it! - Such drama, even if his horsemanship cannot quite match the placement of his lance. - Do not underrate the latter point Ser, he has oft displayed the skill to get his opponent to the ground where he is generally the better man. - Just think what he will be like in the melee with sword in hand and uninjured! He still bears the marks of his heroism in the riot during the execution of Septa Tyane's muderers. - Ser Daeron may not be Ser Daemon Blackfyre's equal yet, but he has the making of a great swordsman. - Gods be good, another death at the tourney. - Ser Rennifer Waters struck brutally against Ser Andros Sunfyre. He has form for such - a man of great skill, but also great viciousness. - Little wonder Lord Merryweather sees need to retain a skilled champion given his antics. - Indeed, and after the tilt Ser Rennifer made quite the obscene gesture at Lady Lysette Starling. Lord Dargood's bastard is quite the source of shame. - At least Lysette's champion, Ser Aemon Flowers, knocked him to dirt in the subsequent tilt, albeit taking a fearsome blow himself. - The Oakheart lost one of its leaves yesterday. - I saw. Ser Vardis of Kingsbridge struck Ser Kevan Oakheart down in a great fury after the latter stood to defend what little honour Lord Merryweather has left. - Mayhap the girl Lord Merryweather allegedly laid hands on was more than a friend to him, he is a local of Kingsbridge after all. - I do not know him well, but suspect this may be true. He comes from a long line of knights in service to House Starling, the fourth generation among them according to my cousin. - He may have made himself a dangerous enemy with Lord Merryweather or even Lord Oakheart now, and blood will not bring back his love's honour. - Still, I suspect the heart is involved here, for I hear such behaviour is quite out of character for Ser Vardis. - The gods are with him so far - he has been one of the surprises of the tourney, winning through three rounds and defeating the great Ser Dennis Hightower. - Ser Vardis's dolorous stroke may prove a stroke of fortune for Lord Merryweather - he had few friends to answer Lord Starling's challenge yesterday, but perhaps this will see Oakheart swords join Longtable's if there's trouble at the tourney between them and Houes Starling. I fear drink, hot weather and heated words may provoke trouble in nights to come. - Or beyond the tourney. These are dangerous times... - Ser Daemon Water's duel with Ser Otho Bracken may have been brief, but such swordsmanship! - Verily. He's a lordly with a lance but Ser Daemon is truly kingly with a sword in hand. - Not just a sword, the sword. Remember, the king gave him Blackfyre. - And such a display of cowardice from Ser Otho too, swiftly yielding rather than risking true justice. - Well, his name is mud now. He has disgraced himself as a knight, cheating in the joust, trying to slay some petty knight and now his disgraceful words against Lord Levalle rammed down his throat. - Who knew that there were allegations against the Spongwielder that were wild enough to be untrue? - Ha, very amusing. Mayhap this will only make Ser Otho more dangerous, now that he has little to lose? - Ser Otho is as poor a knight as Ser Daemon is an exemplar. The man is the essence of knighthood! - Such scandal! Everyone knows that the delicious "Tanda the Tart" nickname sprang from Amerei's lips. - If she's a tart she's a sweet looking one. And the whole thing over Lord Durwell it seems. He bears Lady Tanda's favour. - And still bears Lady Tanda's favour, despite many expecting Lady Amerei's champion to prevail. After all, the redoubtable Ser Robb Reyne bore her favour. - The past tense, for his part in the tilting is over far earlier than most expected. - Indeed, it was a match worthy of much later in proceedings and lived up to expectations. - Lord Durwell first stripping Ser Robb of his his helm and then dismounting the Red Lion in the next pass. - I could scarce believe my own eyes, in seemed impossible for Lord Durwell to remain ahorse after receiving such a blow in turn. - Even if their champions have already fought, I suspect we have not heard the end of the quarrel between Ladies Tanda and Amerei. - For a certainty. With her champion defeated at her own tourney, Amerei cannot be pleased at being further upstaged by Tanda the Tart. - Do you know Ser Gwayne Meadows? - Only by reputation, but I hear tell he is a capable knight. It always seemed curious that he served Lord Durwell at Norhall instead of his own family. - Well, I think I've solved this riddle. Lady Johanna Meadows. - Really? - I'm confident of it. Lady Johanna still serves as regent for her young son, Lord Meadows is a lad of but thirteen years and yet to earn his spurs. - Ah, now it is clearer to me. She fears her son's cousin's presence would help Ser Gwayne press his own claim to Grassy Vale. It can be worth denying a worthy knight service to retain a firm grip on power. - Certainly. Ser Gwayne has the mettle to draw men to his own cause. - Bastards are born of lust and lies, and carry their behaviour in their own deeds. - We have all heard such talk, and it oft proves true. - Indeed, and I hear it is particularly true of the Lady Ysilla Flowers: she is not just wild and free in court but also with her virtue. - Maybe, maybe not. I think there may be a degree of wishful thinking here: I have seen no proof of such, and she seems to know just where the line of proper behaviour is. - Can you blame the hopeful imaginations of men? She is a great beauty. - On that at least we can agree. - I am quite convinced of the matter: Laena Pyre must have killed her first husband. - Be careful my sweet cousin, the walls have ears. Whisper this matter to me, it sounds enticing enough to bear the risk of discussing it. - She is a most striking woman and cannot have been pleased to be married to a Tyrell bannerman of no great account. - Ser Vernan Pyre was indeed no more than a landed knight. - Exactly, and she a Great Bastard! Ser Vernan may not have been a great champion, but nor was he an old man. He was in his forties when they wed. He had been in good health and then passed suddenly. - You are right that he died but a few years later. Perhaps she disliked her match but had the wisdom to bide her time before striking, then retreating to Starkwood lands. Poison is a woman's weapon. - The match might even have made her a greater prize. An ambitious, unscrupulous lord might use her to push a claim on Pyre lands via her children, as Lord Tyrell gave the holdings to another knight with no Pyre of arms-bearing age to hold their fief. -I heard Balon fucked Denyse good! -He assured us he didn't. Said he'd be shouting it from the top of Highgarden if he did. -She is one of the more beautiful ladies in the Reach. -Aye, Balon said as much. He also said she is very pious and only her eventual husband will have that privilege. And only after the bedding ceremony. As it should be. -Well shit. -Did you hear what Mya Rivers said about Denyse Cordwayner? -I wouldn’t give her any credit for her words, we all know that she’s just a prettier mouthpiece for Bloodraven. -Bloodraven! But why would he care about some minor House in the Reach? -Who can say, but he clearly has it out for them, maybe it has something to do with Ser Roland saving that Dornish woman? I heard that Lord Eldon, though vile, was being set up for that assassination attempt. -Looks like the Seven gave Ser Normyn the strength to defeat a member of the Kingsguard and prove Lady Mya wrong. -But their blonde hair! -Your children look nothing like you. Are they yours? -Why do supporters of King Daeron act like this? -I don't know but maybe if the Cordwayners support a just man like Ser Daemon there will be an end to such things. -If Ser Addam has the right of it, it was a Dornish girl, pretty and graceful, who started to rumor of Lady Denyse visiting the Redwyne camp. -Interesting! But why? -I can only speculate on the reasoning, but as a predator must hunt, so must the Vipers poison all that is good. -If only there was someone to put a stop to this madness. -Lady Ashara is right. Lady Mya was clearly insulted and angry, but that isn't at all the King's fault. -Not to mention that the Blackfyre supporters are trying to say that an insult is as bad as murder. -Foolish. Could you imagine if people were executed for baseless insults? Half the city would die in a week. -Real crimes should be punished, but not something like that. The honor duel was enough. -Lady Ashara said that Ser Otho and Ser Balon shouldn't be allowed to compete in any other events. -She seems outspoken and keen to defend the sycophants in the Red Keep, little wonder given her heritage. -I wonder how Lady Maegelle will adjust to a strong-willed daughter in law, everyone that wouldn't bend at Hammerhaal have either been broken or chased away. -If you ask me, House Cordwayner would be better off not tainting their line with Dornish blood. -Has House Levalle declared for Blackfyre? -I don’t believe so? Why would you say that? -I saw, with my own eyes, him toasting Blackfyre in the company of Ser Daeron, a Great Bastard and open Blackfyre supporter. Sounds like he’s leaning away from the king. -Makes sense, Ser Daemon did fight as his champion, maybe Lord Alliser’s support was part of that deal? -I still don’t believe it, that man is a fox with a foot in each camp. I think he’s trying to play Blackfyre.

Day 7A somewhat quiet day, Lord Tyrell's battle enactment went as expected, with Ser Aerion appearing to have had little chance to offer up an upset against Ser Donnel to begin with. More interesting was perhaps the many twists and turns in the selection of captains for the melee, with the usual suspects lining up, absent Prince Baelor who may or may not even partake in the melee, leaving his younger brother to earn his chance for glory. There are more clouds on the horizon, literally, but some suspect figuratively also. Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/533/day-7-mummers-dragon-eventBlood: 12 Fire: 10 -I don't quite remember the Prince's Pass as that stacked in the favor of the Reach. -I suppose Lord Leo doesn't like surprises. -It would have been good fun to see a strong commander turn the tables on these loaded dices though. -Too many did not wish for that sort of fun. -Have you seen the names being put forth for captain in the Seven Sided Melee? -Every famous knight worth a lick put his name forward. What of it? -Look who leads the pack. Fireball, Bittersteel, Redtusk, the Red Lion! All supporters Ser Daemon Blackfyre. -You forget that Prince Maeker has the most support. -Only because the Kingsguard is required to support him. And I don't see Prince Baelor. Maybe he's scared? -Keep talking like that and you'll lose your tongue. -Ser Addam still has his attached, and he called the prince a coward hiding behind the white cloaks. +1 Fire-Lady Ashara had an interesting point yesterday. -Oh, what was that? -She was saying that none of the knights that have demonstrated true chivalry have openly called for Blackfyre to be king, including the man himself. -That doesn't mean they do not say it behind closed doors. -No, but maybe if all the knights followed their example we would have less bloodshed at this tourney. -That would be a welcome relief. +1 blood-Lord Manfred Lothston is still in the joust? -Yes, what of it? -Strange, with his horsemanship, I would expect him to be out by now. -He tends to survive into the middle rounds, never fails. -But? He cannot be cheating? But nobody has that much luck. -Maybe he arranges for a lucky draw each time? -Still, even with lucky draws he wouldn't perform so respectably with such consistency. -Lady Victaria Rhysling is getting awfully old for remaining unwed, and not for lack of suitors. -Maybe she just prefers girls? -Huh, I don't think so. -The problem is that Lord Tyrell is the one that must lead her over the floors of the sept. -And they disagree on the groom? -Exactly, she has turned down all his suggestions on account of their questionable loyalties to King Daeron. -Everyone knows that Lord Tyrell wants to see Blackfyre crowned king. -That may be so, but he at least tries to be impartial, it's all those he surrounds himself with that makes it difficult. -Still no signals from Lord Roxton of which way he leans? -None at all, he declines to speak of the matter. -That man is a warrior ruled by his daughters, and nothing good can come of that. -His daughters are just as reserved with their opinions. -Widowmaker would add weight behind any claim. -Indeed, though the choice of Redtusk as her champion may perhaps show that Lady Daena is open to that side? -Maybe, or perhaps she really just wants a good chance of being named queen of love and beauty. -Redtusk is so gallant that he would fight for whatever side House Roxton fights for if he were to marry Lady Daena, a wily lady might snare a boon for King Daeron. -Though Redtusk is not fool enough to place himself in a situation so riven between loyalty and righteousness.

Day 8An eventful day with quite a few jousting matches worth talking about is released by an even more eventful evening with a hotly debated mummer's show, while it appears that most have seen through Lord Gormon's somewhat obvious attempt at playing politics in favor of Daemon Blackfyre, it also appears to have worked as he had planned, with support among the nobles for the cause of the pretenders clawing back the small lead that the loyalists of King Daeron have held. However, the events of the night have dwarfed it all, with the death of Lord Rowan's son and presumed abduction of Ser Aladaore Florent, heir to Brightwater keep whom young Matthis squired for. Lord Tyrell's tourney will surely be remembered for generations to come, even if Ser Daemon dies quietly of old age with no rebellion ever to be sparked in his name, and certainly not in the way that the Longhtorn would have hoped. The clouds have drifted past, leaving the skies blue and clear again, more clouds would certainly better fit the dreary mood. Blood: 13 Fire: 13 Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/589/day-8-dancing-moon-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/364/jousting-format?page=1&scrollTo=9838greatbastards.boards.net/thread/590/day-8-manhunt-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/591/day-8-butterbumped-event- What have gotten everyone's breaches in a twitch? - You haven't heard? Ser Aladore Florent, heir to Brightwater Keep, have gone missing, his squire, Matthis Rowan, and retinue of two guardsmen are found dead in an alley, their throats slit. - Shit, seriously? Septas, Dornish Knights, Lord Hightower, now boys, are anyone safe? - Yeah, nobody of import is going anywhere without a small retinue of guards. - A thousand men are going door to door in Gardenton trying to find him. The bounties for the return of Ser Aladore and for bringing the killers of Lord Rowan's son to justice are each a thousand dragons. - You saw Lord Willum and Lady Alena at the inn? They say her teets had popped out of her gown and that he was drinking from a cup nestled between them. - Your ears have been filled with shit, we were not so lucky, but his hands went down there with her eager permission, then they kissed, and he would surely have ended the night with his cock inside her if she had allowed it. - Scandalous, truly, for a knight, nay, a lord, to display such affection for a lady of noble blood. - Only half noble, Lady Alena is a bastard, and a walking flaunting creature of temptation and lust. - That's not even the worst of it, Lord Karl loudly proclaimed his love for her and declared that he would have no other lady than her as his wife. - Must be what she was after the whole time, do not forget, she is not only a bastard, but a Levalle bastard, just like those slimy schemers to have such base plots. - Yes, House Orme is sworn to Longtable, few would lament that one such as Lord Willum won't be allied to the pig. - House Orme must be livid, Lady Kyra is as dangerous as she is beautful, the last man to give her insult was brutally slaughtered by Ser Rennifer Waters. - Lord Karl would do well to apologize and recant his statements or he will be facing that monster soon enough. - So we have our captains then! - Aye, the valiant Ser Roland Cordwayner was at the forefront of the challengers and bested Fireball for a second time. Lord Tyrell could not prevail against Stormbreaker, much to the surprise of many observers. - It is quite the roll call of champions: Stormbreaker, Ser Aegor Rivers, Redtusk, the Red Lion, Ser Daemon Blackfyre and Ser Roland Cordwayner. - Don't forget Prince Maekar, who gave a decent account of himself in the joust and may put his physical prowess to better use in a melee than atop a horse. - Well said, he is likely to fare better there, even if he cannot match the other captains for finesse with a lance yet. - The make up of the teams may yet tell us something of how the wind blows, which houses lash their fortunes to which captain's mast. - You sound half Redwyne, dipping in to nautical references! - Looks like the Starlings are certainly within the Blackfyre camp now. Ser Daemon himself accepted an invitation by his half-brother Daeron to visit their camp today and was gifted with the finest shield that hands could craft. - That's no surprise at all, with so many fine knights in their service, such as Ser Roland, it was only a matter of time before they supported the finest knight in the realm. I don't expect Lord Willem to formally declare for any side though, the man is too upright to get dragged into political bickering and is probably waiting for Blackfyre himself to make a claim. - Regardless, the Companions are worth their weight in gold and having them side with the Black Dragon is certain to sway the tides of more than one battle. -Lord Yornwood's a fool if he does not cancel the marriage to Lord Merryweather! -More like fool out here does. What with upsetting the Tyrell's and Targaryens. It's them he would be upsetting -Are you kidding me? He would be made a laughing stock of the reach if he married his daughter to that pig. -Your right. Such a beautiful chaste woman deserves better then that glutton. -Chaste my ass. But you right that she is much more discreet about it. - Seven be good, true depravity strikes the tournament! - Worse than Lord Merryweather? The gods are clearly wroth. - Wretches tried to grab Lord Cuy's nephew, Jorah I think the lad's name was. He'd have been snatched too had that strange seneschal of House Levalle's not come upon the abductors and alerted the guard. - Lady Tyrell will be most upset to hear that Lady Jeyne Cuy's family is troubled. - Quite so, Lord Cuy's wife was a great favourite when she was a lady in waiting at Highgarden. - A ghastly matter - perhaps a political scheme, as why else risk snatching a noble lad with guards all around rather than some ill-fortuned peasant lad? - What a match between Lord Tyrell and Ser Aerion Baratheon! - Indeed, the Longthorn and the Stormbreaker lived up to expectations. A matched first pass of champions then a dramatic miss by Ser Aerion in the second pass. - But what a comeback! Such reckless gallantry from Stormbreaker in the third pass! - Not just adopting Ser Daeron Waters' tactics, but having the skill to keep his saddle while doing so! - He earned his name in the fighting against Dorne and has lived up to it countless times since. - Do we have the making of a new Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk? - Pfft, at best half of it - those were two exemplars that perished reconciling with one another, weeping. Only Ser Titus lives up to such chivalrous knights! - I never had you as a romantic! I think the historians are more right than the singers and they died cursing each other. - Whatever the truth of that tale, all saw the brothers confront one another to resolve their insults. - Not only that, they risked kinslaying in doing so: tourney lances or not, we've had our share of accidents already, whether they be truly accidents or not. - What some men attempt at the top of the realm in setting brother against brother already makes itself felt lower down the social order. - Dark times indeed, when brother fights against brother. - They seem different even in their fighting styles - Ser Titus was much the better jouster, but then had to yield to Balon on foot. - Given the severity of what was said, it is doubtful is this was enough to put an end to matters. - Lady Shiera Blackbriar is livid with the men of her house. - With who exactly? Ser Titus, for naming his brother a murderer in public? Ser Balon, for his wild deeds? - Both, and more beside. Not even her husband is spared her anger at the moment. - Shiera has long been unhappy there given her higher birth, and is doubtless keen to see her family more closely aligned with her nephew, Lord Peake. - A stronger Lord than lord Blackbriar would have stopped such scheming and criticisms within his halls. - True, but he is not a strong man, as you say. Perhaps he fears Ser Donnel's blade and popularity with the house's knights. - With Shiera faded and angry, maybe Ser Donnel will finally see sense and send her packing to the silent sisters? - Did you see Ser Donnel have to settle things with swords in the fourth round. - Aye - he's been jousting for decades, but despite that seeing him actually unhorsed is a rare sight. - I don't think it is his age, he rode many of his other passes well. - If not age catching the old warhorse then what? - I suspect he's distracted by the turmoil in his own house, with his sons at each others throats and with his wife unhappy. - True, even Breakspear or Ser Daemon would struggle to set aside their worries and ride to the best of their abilities in these circumstances. - I don't know what to make of Ser Daeron's progress in the joust! - Ha, you and all the knight he has faced. - Quite so, such is the ferocity of his charge that even men who are expecting it and ride conservatively find themselves dismounted. - And once dismounted they are vulnerable to this drake's talons! - Draketalon, Wildfire, I can barely keep up with the young man's nicknames! - Very amusing, but the nicknames do not move as quickly as his blade! - Well said. We shall see if the finer riders in the final thirty-two prove beyond such tactics. - At the very least, Ser Daeron is likely to be an asset to whichever melee team he finds himself on. - Ser Daemon's I'd wager. Companion or not, he spoke up for Blackfyre. - Have you seen Paxter Redwyne this morn? - I barely recognised him when I passed him on my way to the tilting lines. - Ser Simon Tarly beat him harder than we trashed the Dornishmen at the Prince's Pass. - It is a fool and a drunkard that makes an enemy of a house as powerful as the Redwynes. Ser Simon is fortunate that he was defeated by Ser Titus Blackbriar, else there would be a line of Redwynes waiting to thump his shield. - Well, Ser Simon fits the description of a drunk and a fool, despite his abilities. Mayhap we shall see him chastised in the melee instead? I suspect that match against Ser Titus had something to do with Ser Simon's temper. - Really? - I'm confident of it. My squire says that he heard Ser Simon cursing Paxter's sloppy fitting of his armour straps, claiming he would have easily defeated Ser Simon otherwise. - Sadly, Ser Simon is as unpopular as he is skilled and justifiably so. This latest unpleasantness is likely to keep him in such a state. - By the old gods and the new, Lady Maegelle Cordwayner has a reckless mouth on her. - Aye, openly denigrating the King, drawing dangerous links between last night's play and King Daeron's legitimacy. She alluded to old allegations by Ser Morgan Hastwyck that the King is the Dragon Knight's son and not King Aegon's seed at all. - Only natural to see where that line of thought leads: to crowning a King Daemon. The man bears the royal sword and was legitimised by King Aegon. - Dangerous, dangerous talk. Seems much of the recent talk about House Cordwayner looking to Ser Daemon to protect the Reach from Dornish influences and outrages. - Her own son is due to marry a half-Dornish bitch, perhaps she dislikes a match and another within her house made it? It would explain her public outburst and railing against the king. - Hard to believe it of the tentative Lord Cordwayner, but perhaps he has finally crown a spine? +2 Fire, also it's very clear that Lady Maegelle has chosen a side- Ser Dennis Hightower spoke up for Ser Aegor Rivers when it came to appointing melee captains. - I heard - a blessing to his team to already have such a skilled knight supporting it. - Unsurprisingly the Redwynes are almost entirely for Redtusk. Given the ripe bunch of Redwynes in the last thirty-two of the joust, that team shall take some beating in the melee. - Quite so, yet many houses in the Reach still offer plentiful knights to fill out the melee teams. - True, true. I'd pay most attention to where the men of Tyrell, Peake and Crane end up. The prowess in just one of these houses alone could form the backbone of any melee team! - Indeed, and the same could be said for Lord Durwell, although he oft has a foot in more than one camp rather than concentrating his forces. - Or even Lord Merryweather's knights - an ill-reputed bunch, but there are some solid knights sworn to an ill cause. They too could bolster a captain's force. Karl Willum broke his bethrothal with Amerei Orme, now intent on marrying Lady Alena Flowers, natural daughter of Ser Aladale Levalle. Surely the bastard must have seduced him. The Orme's are furious. - I overheard Lady Ashara Starkwood point out that Bittersteel had more support than Blackfyre in the melee captain selection, and that his followers are more loyal to him than to the Black Dragon. - It certainly seems that Bittersteel is gathering support for himself, using his more popular brother as a figurehead. - Bittersteel is Ser Otho Bracken's brother, too - and you saw how the Brute acted towards Ser Daemon. - It sure seems like those two care more for their own fortunes than for those of good Ser Daemon. - I wouldn't be surprised if Ser Daemon and his eldest sons 'tragically died' in battle, so that Bittersteel could rule as regent while a younger son came of age. - Or 'died of a mysterious disease', more like, keeping Bittersteel in power even longer. - Aye, with 'friends' like those two Brackens, Ser Daemon ought to be wary. +1 Blood, Ashara is now known as a Blood Supporter- I swear if I didn't know any better I'd think Ser Daemon was king. - This I gotta hear. - Lord Leo has done everything but declare for him. The greatest knights of the realm support him. Now even the mummers sing his praise. - Mummers? What in the Seven hells are you talking about? - Didn't you hear? Lord Tyrell held a play for the Reach's greatest nobles and all came away with a clear message; Blackfyre is the true dragon. - A play does not make a king. - Mark my words, it won't be long until the smallfolk cry for him too. +1 Fire

Day 9Clear sunny skies greets the day in contrast to the foul and nasty moods brewing under the roofs of the pavilions in camp, murders, scandals and abduction are overshadowing the spectacular upsets and memorable clashes in the joust and murmurs on the morning wind brings tidings of Lord Bryce having died by poison. Many are dreading what the next days will bring, most dare only hope for a reprieve from the depravities and frivolity perpetrated by Butterbumps, Dornish so-called-ladies and the bastards. The consensus seems to be that the day before was only the beginning, the day that marked the point of no return on the path to the Realms being torn asunder by fire and blood, Lord Rowan lost a son, Lord Florent's heir was rescued by the hands of some of Ser Daemon's most renowned supporters, adding his voice to theirs. Today was supposed to be a cause for celebration, a feast is to be held for knights to shower glory upon each other, now it promises to turn into a desperate attempt to add a thin veneer of civility and joy over the rotten facade. Luckily, anything coming out of the foul mouth of wicked dwarfs are the most unreliable slander of all. Events: greatbastards.boards.net/post/11406/threadgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/662/day-9-recruitment-drive-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/663/day-9-briar-run-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/664/foul-mood-great-hall-eventBlood: 13 Fire: 20 - What did you make of the tourney master's match-ups for the sixth and seventh rounds? - Stacking the deck, and quite blatantly so. Easy matches for Daemon Blackfyre and his friends. - Agreed my good man, agreed. Not just that, but sending both Breakspear and Stormbreaker out, too. - A shame, but perhaps this reveals Lord Tyrell's hand yet further, even if he has not yet been as open as some. - Maybe, or perhaps Ser Lewyn Rowan acts on his own initiative or under instruction from his birth family? - The latter seems most unlikely, Lord Rowan is among the king's firmest friends. - Did you see Lady Denyse Cordwayner reject Ser Balon Blackbriar at the dance last night. - It was hard to miss it. By the Seven, the look she gave him! - Even the Red Lion himself might have quailed from that. - Heroic rescue of Ser Aladore or not, I can understand her coldness. Many lurid tales have been told about her. - Quite so, and if such is said of you, the last knight you'd want to be seen with with is the dishonourable Ser Balon. - First the ludicrous tales about the late Ser Wyl, then the wild accusations at Septa Tyane's procession, now rejected by Lady Denyse. - Do not forget his assault on Lady Ashara. - Indeed, quite the roll of shame. Ser Daemon was right about him and Ser Otho - they have failed to live up to their oaths. - The betting in the stands has suddenly intensified. - Not just intensifying, but baffling. Lord Mullendore has wagered one thousand gold dragons that Lord Marq Durwell can beat Ser Daemon Blackfyre in the joust. - He is normally known as a shrewd one, but I suspect he has outsmarted himself here or gone mad. - Even if an upset occurs, men may simply suspect subterfuge given the scale of that bet. - Well if he is mad, what word does that leave us for Lord Levalle? - What has the Spongeholder done now to disgrace himself? - Nothing as yet, but in betting four hundred dragons each on Ser Roland Cordwayner and Lord Marq Durwell to win the whole blasted thing I suspect he has made himself poorer. - Both are fine tilters, but unlikely to prove victorious in this exalted company. - Exactly. Lord Levalle is either crazy or has one of his wicked schemes at work. He sent a mummer bearing his seal to verify the bet. - Both lords are rich at least - the poorer lords are not desperate enough to stake their family's fortunes or daughters' marriage prospects on the joust. - I've seldom laughed so hard in my life. - Me neither, I thought I would do myself an injury. - Even thinking back on how Butterbumps embarrassed Septon Abelar makes me smile. - The voice, the walk, both so perfect! - The Septon himself inadvertently played his part, I laughed even harder when I saw how mad it made him. - Butterbumps is as to wit as Ser Donnel is to the lance - a true master. The Septon was frothing and ranting! - Very true. Here's to the Lord Butterbumps! He must have really struck a nerve with Abelar. The man was hopping mad! - Mayhaps the Septon's severity and conservatism betray a wild history or wandering eye? - Quite possibly. The one place Butterbumps went too far with was accosting Lady Janna Hightower - such an innocent creature. - Agreed - all admire her youthful virtue too much to see it spoiler by his grubby hands. To make matters worse the sweet thing is still mourning Lord Hightower. - Best to stick to hypocrites like the Septon, much more entertaining. - Did you see Ser Daeron's joust? - Aye, but everyone is talking about the aftermath, not his unconventional tactics finally failing. - It is that failure, and the rage it drove him to that everyone is indeed talking about. - I would that thought the man would have been pleased with his performance, rather than enraged. - Indeed, it was quite bizarre - he is chiefly famous as a swordsman. Everyone was laughing at Butterbumps and enjoying themselves. - Until Daeron drove his fist in to the fool's face. - He may not look it, but Ser Daeron has made a dangerous enemy, great bastard or not. - Oh, quite so, the stands were rife with talk of the bastard's depravities and perversions. - How everyone laughed. It seems Ser Daeron has inherited many of his father's disgusting faults. - Fewer were laughing when he continued his brutality at the evening's dance. - My cousin was there, and she said the attack was totally unprovoked. - Normally many would assume Ser Farman deserved it - that great bastard has his father's appetites after all. However, Ser Daeron is fast gaining a reputation as a thug. -1 Chivalry for Daeron- Did you hear the great Butterbumps has confessed after Septon Abelar confronted him? - Ha, stay your tongue, I've heard the tale of this already and the joke's ending. - Bah, I had hoped you hadn't heard yet. It was hilarious, pretending to confess. - The way he tells it, he saved the testimony of Mushroom and has slept with half the young ladies of the reach. - Well, they say you can sometimes laugh a woman in to bed. - I hear they normally laugh you right out of it. - Very droll, but not as amusing as Butterbump's confession. The little devil is a comic genius! - Such gallantry! Did you see the four great knights coming back to camp having rescued Ser Aladore. - Bloodied but triumphant, heroic stuff. - Truly Ser Addam, Ser Balon, Lord Peak and Bittersteel are great heroes, even if they rescued a knight rather than some maid. - If you take your eyes from the romance of it and look at the politics, who was rescued is the key. - How so? - I suspect this bring Lord Florent firmly in to Ser Aegor Rivers' camp. - Intriguing and well spotted. As a scholarly man some had expected him to favour King Daeron, should all this maneuvering truly come to swords. - He'll stand with Ser Daemon now, should Bittersteel push him in to outright rebellion. - I tell you my friend, some stereotypes exist for a good reason? - Which bit of folk wisdom has been reinforced now? - Well, did you see Ladies Alicent at Ashara last night? - I certainly did, you could see almost ALL of them - Exactly - "ladies" seems like the wrong word for both of them. - Scandalous stuff, particularly as both are betrothed. - As I said - everything they say about hot-blooded Dornish women is true. Only bastards and Southerners would sink so low as to dress like that. - Here here! - For all the violence we have seen so far, one of the fiercest rivalries here burns among the ladies at court. - Oh, I quite agree. I have seen the looks Lady Tanda Peake and Lady Amerei Tyrell give one another. I half expect both to drop dead from the hatred. - Or the exertion of maintaining such burning anger at the other. - At the dance they had eyes for few beyond each other and Lord Durwell. This rivalry clearly isn't over yet. - Can you blame them? Lord Durwell is quite the prize and still unwed. - Indeed, his deep progress in the tourney bearing Lady Tanda's favour has quite spoiled a tourney Amerei believes is "hers". - Then we should not be surprised if she seeks to spoil things for Lady Tanda. - Lord Bridges isn't the only veteran showing the young pups a thing or two. - Indeed, Ser Donnel Blackbriar has already gone at least one round better. - And against the stiffest opposition around! - Unbelievable - I thought the old warhorse was slowing down after he was unhorsed in the earlier rounds and had to settle things with swords. - Mayhap he was just warming up? Such prowess. - Overthrowing just one of Prince Baelor and Ser Aerion Baratheon is often enough for a victor's purse! - Indeed, to manage both in succession is a feat that will live long in the memory. - The tilt with Ser Aerion was particularly memorable. Ser Donnel knew he had to make end end to things, lest he be overpowered by Ser Aerion on foot. - Most men would know they had to do so, but few apart from Donnel could hope to pull the feat off! - I think I have figured out the bizarre match between Ashara Starkwood and Ser Quentin Cordwayner in bantering with Lord Butterbumps. - It seemed most unlike the timid Lord Cordwayner, and Lady Cordwayner hates the match, so you may be on to something. - Well, bastard blood is treacherous. - This much is true, as everyone knows. - Well, I think the Dornish slut has a mind to lure the lusty bastard Ser Aerion Flowers to her bed so the two of them can seize control of House Starkwood. - Ah, and then Lord Starkwood must have got wind of this and sent his daughter away, simultaneously ridding himself of this danger and punishing his daughter. - Lady Cordwayner will certainly make the marriage a punishment. - Coming from Butterbumps, this tale is an entertaining as it is unlikely, so oft times jokes conceal a hint of the truth. - Exactly, there may well be something to this. +1 Fire- Have you seen Lady Erena Blackbriar? Butterbumps says he wishes she was among the maidens he took out riding. - What a beauty! If she was my wife my jousting would deteriorate - I would be in bed all the time and have a vast brood of children. - Exactly. What man could resist spending his days such? I suspect your joke conceals the truth - Lord Blackbriar is not the father! - Hmm, you may be on to something. He is old enough to be her father. - Age well well have withered him, with the young beauty giving House Blackbriar an heir, but not one of Blackbriar blood. - One of the Reach's lord's cuckolded, a shameful fate for a man. - Butterbumps claims he knows for a fact old Lord Blackbriar is a cuckold, but will not say who did the deed. - I wish I had been that lucky knight or stable hand! I wonder if Butterbumps knows and isn't telling +1 Fire- Everyone is gossiping about Butterbumps supposedly having bedded many young ladies. - There may be an element of truth to it - he seems to know a lot of intimate details, if the gossip at the bath-house is true. - I heard some very worried voices there too: "Seven help me, how can he have known about that scar". - The poor dears! - According to Butterbumps, among the most experienced ladies to have been out riding with him was none other than Mya Rivers herself, one of the great bastards. - We speak purely of his knowledge of horse-riding scars here? - [With a laugh] But of course! I'll say however that the little fellow said all of of Mya's experience meant she could ride and ride and ride. +1 Fire- Everyone is searching for allies, the realm seems to teeter on the edge of war. - Men can be bought with gold and titles, or threatened in to obedience - courtiers are using every tool at their disposal. - Indeed, every tool, and the touch of a woman is among them. Bloodraven is not above playing on base desires to bind men to him. - Really? And who is his 'tool' in this game? - Butterbumps says it is none other than his own sister, Mya Rivers. Few can resist her beauty. - Typical bastard wickedness, to stoop to using his own flesh and blood in such a manner. - I'm not quite sure I believe it myself, Butterbumps always give a mixture of hidden truths and whatever he thinks will prompt the greatest laughter and scandal. - Well that one certainly works for me as an image! Ahem, not that I would let myself be bought by such depravities from Bloodraven and his half sister. +1 Fire- Butterbumps let me know the secret of why Lord Marq Durwell gave his favour to Lady Tanda Peake. - Oh, this sounds delightful, speak on! - Well, many men can find themselves too tense to do themselves justice when jousting... - I think I know where this is going. - So Tanda Peake, for she is no true lady, helped Lord Durwell "relax" before the tournament in exchange for promising to bear her favour. - Well then, it seems Lord Peake's darling daughter has a mouth that is good for more than just singing then! - Butterbumps claims Lord Durwell has him to thank for making the quarterfinals, not Tanda's "aid". - What? - Well, the capering fool says Tanda became an expert thanks to his plentiful riding lessons. -Ser Addam Velaryon truly is hero! -Nonsense, a boy that green, Bittersteel and Lord Gormon did all the work. -No! I heard the story myself. He charged head first into bandit formation. Not a care in the world for his own safety. -Charged head first? There were a dozen men. He would of been swarmed -He would of but Ser Balon Blackbriar had managed to hold his right flank. -WOW! Ser Daemon's followers are truly men of action -To steal Ser Addam's words "The Fires act while the Bloods talk. +1 Fire- I overheard Lady Ashara Starkwood praising Ser Roland Cordwayner for his support the King. - With the favor of Lady Janna Hightower I'd have thought a strong knight like him was a supporter of Blackfyre. - Apparently not. Ser Roland's good-sister openly supports Blackfyre, perhaps he objects to her more than the Black Dragon. - Lady Ashara won't be making a friend of her future good-mother, being so close to Ser Roland. - From what I've heard, Lady Maegelle never approved of Lady Ashara for her son anyway. - Maybe Lady Ashara is hoping that Mya River's rumor is proven true, preferring the dark over the gold? - She certainly seems to have spent more time with her betrothed's uncle than Ser Quentin himself. - Balon was at the Golden Rose last night. - Isn't he there every night? - It'd seem that way but at least last night we heard talk about the rescue of Ser Aladore (Florent) - I heard he called themselves the Fantastic Four. - Hard to disagree with the nickname. The way Ser Balon tells it they were outnumbered three to one yet they laid waste to the sellswords. - A group of sellswords? Doesn't sound too hard for the likes of Lord Gormon, Bittersteel, Ser Balon, and Ser Addam. - Pffft. Lets see you and three of your friends take on hedge knights, sellswords, crossbowmen, and come away virtually unscathed. - Ser Daemon Blackfyre must be proud of his friends. - Hightower, Merryweather, Cuy, Rowan, and Florent. Someone is targeting prominent houses of the Reach, but who and why? - I hear that it's Bittersteel, trying to set the Reach ablaze like he is the Riverlands. - Then why would he risk his life to rescue Ser Aladore? No, he's not subtle enough for such a grand conspiracy either. It's clearly someone who wants to divide and weaken the Reach. -But to what end? Why cause chaos for no apparent reason? - Isn't it obvious? The Reach leans towards supporting Ser Daemon. If its premier houses are in disarray and distrustful of one another, then they won't be able to unify behind the Blackfyre cause. I suspect Bloodraven or Jon Qorgyle to be the puppetmaster.

Day 10Grey clouds are rolling down with the northern wind, reflecting the pall cast over Lord Tyrell's tourney by black deeds overshadowing the final of what have been a thrilling tourney with plenty of upsets and a final four free of one of the big favorites. But all the talk is of the vicious insults delivered in the Great Hall the night before, and the large number of duels to be fought today. The arrest of Ser Dagos Manwoody on suspicion of the murder of Lord Bryce have split the camps straight down the middle between those already having condemned him and the ones believing he has been set up to take the fall. The smallfolk appears to be catching on to the bleak moods, fearful that this hateful boiling brew that the nobles are cooking up will be toppled and it's scalding contents will flood across their homes and families. Watching each other and their betters with as much suspicion and paranoia as the lords and ladies themselves. Blood: 15 (+1 Threshold) Fire: 22 (+3 Threshold) Events: greatbastards.boards.net/post/12818/threadgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/725/day-10-equestrian-competition-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/726/day-10-people-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/727/day-queen-love-beauty-event-They arrested Ser Dagos Manwoody, I knew the thing about Dornish snakes is true! -More like a convenient scapegoat. -Then who did it? -Who knows? Ser Desmond wanted the lordship now? Ser Farman wants the lordship himself? Someone wants them to fight? -So, just about everyone is a suspect? -Pretty much, yeah. -Lord Porky turned red as he cooked from the inside. -How savagely he broke his betrothal with the poor Lady Alicent. -Clear to see that she wouldn't want to end in his bed, who would? -She also played him good, she knew exactly what he did. -Maybe, but good on her. -Lord Eldon will be hated by the Tyrells and Targaryens for this. -True, now they have to deal with Lady Alicent's prospect for marriage, who want leftovers? -Those leftovers I'll gladly devour. -Hah! Balon the Blackhorn can't even find his way out of some bushes. -Maybe he found some bastard girl among the other contestants to ram? -Arya Flowers seemed desperate enough to get herself into Roland's pants, maybe she settled for seconds? -A knight like Roland would be obliged to marry her to restore her honor, the Blackhorn would just add another notch. -I saw Karl Willum training furiously with the morningstar in his left hand to partake in the melee. -That one is a fool, did you not see him challenge the Cordwayners? -I did, he better marry fast, and get his bride with child fast. -Would it be so bad if his uncle succeeded him? -He has an uncle? -Yes, a quiet knight that does all the work behind the scenes to ensure that the people of Hawthorns does not starve as their lord rides about seeking glory. -Zachery Redwyne appears to have left Lord Eldon's service and decided to return to the Arbor. -Good for him, but he has already soiled himself serving the rapist. -At least he now has a chance of restoring his honor, there isn't any at Longtable. -Lady Maegelle has never been sweeter than during yesterday’s feast. -I’ll say. Her teats were hanging out for all to see before she tripped and buried them into the cake. -It would be shocking to see that happen to any Andal lady but Maegelle is such a harridan that most saw her humiliation as receiving her just desserts. -I heard that Ser Normyn cut it open with his dagger, the bastard. -They say that all bastards are lustful and treacherous but this is too much to be believed. How did no one cut off his hand for the offense? Any scandalous rumor-actions concerning Lady Maegelle gains +1D on day 10.-Were you at the feast last night? -I wasn't but I heard it might as well been a battleground. -Too true. The duels issued and the things said. By the Seven! -Looks like all the Dornish half-breeds are finally going to get the trashing they deserve! -Really? -Not just the half-breeds, those consorting with the enemy, too! Like the Starkwoods. Fireball and Lord Walgrave challenged the lord and heir. -I heard Lord Tyrell decreed that all duels are to be on foot and with longswords? -He does have a point, there has been far too many deaths as of late. -So Lord Marq against Ser Roland? I would not have expected that. -Neither would I, where did all the favorites go? -Lord Levalle is set to make good money on his bets, sabotage is surely not too low for the spongeholder! -Really, you think so? -I know so, how else could Lord Marq have neutralized Ser Daemon in such a fashion, and then take down Ser Donnel who himself took both the Breakers down? -But Ser Roland was expected to win against Ser Titus? -Not against his renowned namesake, however! -But who is more likely to win this match? -I have no idea. - Well, Lady Laena Pyre finally showed her claws. - Oh yes? Were they sharp? - Utterly vicious. She not only claimed that Lady Johanna Meadows' son was born seven months after she spent time in the former king's court, without her husband, but cited Lord Lucas's platinum hair as proof, claiming that none of the boy lord's claimed ancestors carried that hair. - Oof! Vicious, indeed. - That's only half of it. She further claims that Lady Johanna's husband's illness followed shortly thereafter, along with her chasing off her late husband's family, all but directly accusing her of his murder, claiming that women who gain everything from their husband's passing, like Lady Johanna, are the reason why even ladies like Lady Laena, who lose everything with their husband's passing, fall under suspicion. - Wow. I wonder what Lady Johanna did to upset her quite so much? - I wonder more how Lady Johanna will retaliate. I'm sure Great Bastards have all kinds of dirty secrets they wouldn't wish made public. -With Lord Leo joining Ser Daemon’s team in the melee, I’m positive now that he intends to declare for him. -I think you’re right, the Longthorn could just have easily sat out on the side for his own melee. -And Lord Durwell, too, that man have just been waiting until the time to swing the tide to deliver victory. -Aye, and given the quality of the other knights that Ser Daemon has drawn to his side, I have no question that he will stand victorious at the end of it all. +1 Fire-I heard that Ser Daeron Waters is looking for a new squire, apparently he's gone without a proper one for too long. -Wildfire? The man's recent brash actions don't do much to help his reputation or his abilities to attract a follower? -He did defeat Ser Farman in an honorable duel, it seems that the Warrior has weighed in their quarrel in his favor. You also can't discount his just defeat of the blackguard Ser Bronn, saving innocents from that mob, and his progress in the joust. -But with his temper, how can any chivalrous father not remember Paxter Redwyne?

Day 11A morning fog casts a pall over the eleventh day of what many are starting to call The Black Tourney, the rays of the sun forces it to slowly go away. The silent sisters have been working tirelessly to care for the great many knights and retainers that fell in the riots. Such of the smallfolk that rose in rebellion that were found alive where either given the mother's mercy on the spot or dragged off to the dungeons and ultimately being led six by six to face the hangman, very few managed to slip away and return to Gardenton. There are many voices raised in favor of cancelling the melee altogether, but Lord Tyrell will not have it, and only a handful knights have decided not to partake, and most of them because of injuries sustained in the last few days. Two trials are scheduled for the day, Ser Dagos Manwoody stands accused of the murder of Lord Bryce Bridges and Septon Abelar for breaking the king's peace and inciting rebellion. Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/779/heart-burns-unquenchable-flame-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/780/day-11-venom-eyes-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/board/64/grand-meleeBlood: 15 (+1 Threshold) Fire: 24 (+3 Threshold) - I fear for House Meadows, drawn in to the Black Widow's web. - Laena Pyre plots against them? - Aye, her calling the young Lord Meadows illegitimate has a reason to it, that scheming Great Bastard does little without purpose. - Well, spit it out. - Lord Meadows is but a boy of thirteen, and this would displace him for Lord Durwell's man, the capable Ser Gwayne Meadows. - Ah, with Lady Laena then claiming the marriage for her prize? - Indeed! It is the only way a widowed bastard like her can hope for such a prize. - Pfft, even that seems a faint hope. Why would Ser Gwayne want such a treacherous whore? - Well, I hear it is because he may well be the real father of the children from her first marriage, first husband was too old to get it up. - I suspect she will find herself used and discarded - Ser Gwayne gets the seat and another to sully their name by clearing his path to it, then cleans himself of association with a fresh marriage to a younger, more beautiful bride. - Ser Imry Levalle is still married I hear. - Yes, but only due to the patience and judgement of Septon Janos at Highgarden. - So far he denies his good wife, Lady Lyanna in her wishes to take a septa's vows. - Yes, yes but for how long and why? - I suspect he does so to appease the Florents. - Ah, at last I can make sense of things. Lord Reynald is a man of influence with the king. - Exactly, and the king has done much for the Faith and is rightly popular with the Septons. - That makes more sense than Septon Janos denying her on account of the Levalles. - Indeed, few give a shit about them and their Lord Spongeholder. - But it does not give us the 'why' of matters. What makes her so keen to suddenly give up her marriage? - Philandering and shame from her husband? His seeking out of another's favour in the tilting, both at the jousting lines and between the sheets? - I was outraged at first, but after hearing him speak I quite agree. - No maid should have a crown tainted by this tournament's blood and lies. - On that much we can agree, but did I not hear you earlier saying you felt he spoke up for the king and peace? - Yes, I said as much while you were approaching. - Well, my cousin and I felt that in reminding men of the knightly virtues of Reachmen, there was an implied rebuke of the King for elevating Dornishmen, septons and mystics. - Hmm, I did not detect such myself, but such subtlety would not be unusual for Lord Durwell. - Perhaps he means to rebuke both sides? - Someone should, both sides have men and women whose zealotry in words and deeds shame theme. - That and the quality of the speech are the only thing both sides can agree on. - Two worthy finalists - not the outright favourites, but both have won smaller tournaments in the past. - Lord Durwell would normally have been slightly favoured against Ser Roland, the chief disappointment is that it was over so briefly. - Indeed, Ser Roland rode more recklessly than normal, seemingly keen to resolve matters quickly one way or the other. - Mayhap he seeks more than just to protect Lady Alicent's good name? - Whatever the matter, we should remember Lord Durwell's skill and poise - he has overcome quite the roster of champions on his way to victory - Ser Daemon Blackfyre himself, the late, great Ser Donnel and Ser Roland. - No man can deny he deserved the victory, Ser Roland Cordwayner had already overthrown his mighty namesake and Ser Donnel's prodigiously gifted heir. - Lord Eldon Merryweather found a fresh way to disgrace himself last night. - That's an understatement and no mistake, we can add cowardice to his vices. - Hauling that mass on to a warhorse after Ser Roland and Ser Titus had broken through, what was he thinking? - Of himself, as ever. The latter of the two gave his life for him! - True, when it comes to his desires or his life he places himself first. - First, second and third, by both mass and importance. - Very droll, very droll. - [Shaking his head] Still, leaving Lady Marianne and his nephew to the mob like that, in front of so many witnesses? He sinks lower and lower. - The man is craven, I suspect that mount was not meant for him. At last, some true acts of knighthood. - The riot was an ill, bloody thing, but at least gave some knights a chance to show they lived up to their vows. - Who can forget Ser Roland Cordwayner flying in to the crowd to win a path to the Merryweathers, then rapidly striking down others to protect Lady Marianne and her son? Fresh from a duel against Lord Merryweather's own champion for the beautiful Lady Alicent no less. - Men say that cloak of his is blessed by the Seven and keeps him from harm. Those who were present say the only debate is whether he or Ser Aubrey ambrose was more heroic, more swift in striking down rioters. - True heroism is found in humble places too, no? Men like Ser Aubrey and Ser Roland had their skills and equipment to keep them relatively safe, while Ser Mikel plunged in to the crowd despite their training. - Well said, well said. Straight from the hedge in to danger, forcing back the crowd on his steed even though he knows his mount lacked Roland's breeding, that he is only half the horseman that the Cordwayner knight is. - He must have known he'd pay such a price and paid it gladly, for he followed Ser Roland in to the press despite lacking the storied training of House Cordwayner. - Other low-born knights did themselves proud too against a mob they might have been part of had things gone another way in their lives. Ser Robyn of the Prince's pass is half knight, half Spongeholder scheme, but he was a true knight yesterday. - Fewer men will raise an eyebrow at his knightly title now. - [raising a goblet] Here's to true knights and all four men! - [somberly voiced but keenly raising his own goblet] Well said, to these brave knights. - How can you smile on a day like this? [Raising a backhanded blow] Show some respect! - Stay your hand brother - there is a ray of light even on the blackest day. - Well, speak then! Seven know we need good news. - Ser Titus yet lives. - Impossible, I saw his shattered body with my own eyes! - It is so - that strange seneschal of House Levale found him cradling a breathing Lady Marianne Merryweather after the riot, surrounded by bodies. - This much all know - he gave his life for hers. - He fought not just for her life, but his own. That queer lad's actions saved the boy, for the maesters say Titus's breath is strong enough to cloud glass and his breath grows stronger. - At last, some good news on this horrible, vile day. - True, not just a hero but a living hero. - Seven knows the realm needs them. - It was Septon Abelar that drove the people in to a frenzy. - Aye, they were stirred up and angry already with all the outrages and hot weather, they just needed a spark. - Indeed, you know what the peasant are like. Simple beasts. - That fiery Septon was only to happy to ignite things, and Lord Merryweather's plentiful sins only aided his cause. - Well, Lord Merryweather is still a lord, and he is demanding justice from his liege, Lord Tyrell. - I have heard he is demanding nothing less than the Septon's execution and his head on a pike as a warning. - We shall see how the Blackbriars, Lord Tyrell and the Faith take such a demand. - The smallfolk too, although I hear they have lost their fire with Lord Tyrell's retribution and the Septon's arrest. - A blessing from the Seven that nobody died in those duels. - We can thank not just the Seven, but also Lord Tyrell's wisdom in demanding these be conducted on foot and with arming swords. - Surprising from the Longthorn, but mayhap he took advice, or simply feared the worst given the violence and "accidents" so far. - And he knows the Dornishmen well, and would have expected men like Ser Desmond and Ser Jasper to surrender swiftly when pressed by good Reachmen. - True, they are barely worth their knightly titles. A poor showing indeed. - Lord Tyrell knows their sort well from the wars - Dornishmen fall when they have to stand for something. - In a straight one and one fight with a Reach knight they do what they always do - fold. - The Reach's honour is defended and the Dornishmen shown for what they are. +2 Fire- What a massacre! - Indeed, if the Septon meant to purge House Merryweather by fire his actions may have had the opposite result. - Aye, and with hindsight such is perhaps predictable. The bravest would and did give themselves to protect Lady Marianne Merryweahter and her son, Simon. - Not just the chivalrous Ser Owen Merryweather died protecting his wife and child, but seemingly any man with honour and dignity at Longtable. - Now only the vile Lord Piggy and that blackguard Ser Rennifer Waters remain. The former fleeing where Ser Own stood to fight, the latter is clearly to wicked for the Stranger to claim. - Ser Bryce Goldstag perished, but Lord Merryweather may well find his sort again and cheaply. - I would still your tongue on such thoughts for a day or two, for even he has gained some nobility in death. - You are right coz, he died dutifully in defence of his lord, I should not say such ill words. - Well, he was still a devil in life and got his just deserts, but just leave it a few days. - Dark deeds may have made Longtable an ever darker hall - the fire burned away the good and left only the bad. - And easier to replace wicked men than righteous men. - Lord Karl Willum has been added to the rolls of those claimed in last night's riots. - He died a hero, so perhaps it was what he would have wanted. - His many friends would rather he died a hero after a fuller life of heroism. He would have written his young house in to the histories if he had lived! - Ser Benjen Willum will need to pick up the pieces. - Lord Benjen Willum now. Do you know him? - Not well. - A good man, gallant and considerate. His rule will contrast with his nephew's excesses. - Is he wed? - No, and there lies an opportunity mayhap. While many guests that had enjoyed frolicking and jousting at the late Lord Karl's jousts and feasts will depart, wiser heads will look to House Willum to make a useful match. - Oh, good point I remember now: the heirs there would be distant relatives in that relatively fresh family tree. - We can expect dull, competent rule from the new Lord Benjen Willum, but his marriage may provide some short term political excitement. - Many seek allies in these times, and how better to seal a pact with a new lord than with a marriage? - Ser Donnel Blackbriar died as he lived a hero. - [Raising a goblet] Here here! A true knight. - Would that the Realm had more men of his type? He spoke so movingly for the king and for peace at the mock battle, despite having served against the Dornish. - An injustice, but a least he died saving that young lad. Ser Donnel would not have wanted to live a coward anyway. - Well said, we can all learn a lesson from him. Crashing in to the press like that and only giving his last breath when he had taken the boy to safety. - A cruel lesson, for the best die and the worst live. - The gods punish us with Ser Donnel dead and Lord Eldon Merryweather yet breathing. - Ser Donnel's heroism will be long remembered, a credit to the Blackbriar name. - Lord Tyrell's hangman will be exhausted today, he worked through the night executing rioters. - The wretches deserved the rope for raising up arms in rebellion. - Our lord host showed them scant leniency, and quite right. - It has put the fear of the Stranger in to the small folk - Gardenton's streets are quite empty. - Aye, it is a strange feeling indeed - like a ghost town. - Mayhap this is what towns were like when the Dornishmen hid from our conquering hosts? - Whatever the matter, the smallfolk seem to have decided it is best to hide until everyone leaves. - I cannot blame them, justice is likely to be swift and punitive given the poisonings, a murdered septa, kidnapped noble and two riots. - Aye, two riots, and the second larger than the first. Best the smallfolk do not gather and repeat such outrages. -First the Brute of Bracken and now Balon Snakeater, Ser Daemon won't tolerate any brutishness from his followers. Every knight can stand against an enemy, it takes a truly gallant one to stand against an ally. -It seems that the Blackfyre camp has a problem with blackguards among its ranks, are you sure that it's not just a rotten cause? -You can't place that at Ser Daemon's feet! He's at least keeping his house in order, what have the royalists done about 'Lady' Mya and that filthy mouth of hers – other than constantly standing as her champion? I don't see any royal princes reining her behavior in. -That's a fair point I suppose, at least one faction is holding its members to account. - Seems some folk tried to make advantage of yesterday's chaos in unconventional fashion. - Really, do tell! - Well, I have it on good authority that Lady Ashara Starkwood was spotted at the Cockshaw camp last night, cloaked and unchaperoned. - Ooh, scandal! That fiery young Dornish whore was surely visiting a lover that she wanted to keep secret, she's betrothed to the Cordwayner heir after all. - Half right, but half wrong. - What do I have wrong, I'm normally a good judge of such, if you will allow me to flatter myself. - Well, the Cockshaws are for Ser Daemon Blackfyre, so I suspect she visited not just a single lover but too. - Such perversion! - Not just two, but two at the same, I bet she take it in the mouth and from behind at the same time. -That Levalle guy was going on about the war again. Crazy bastard. -Crazy... maybe. That doesn't make him wrong. -If Knights want to kill each other, why should we care? -But it won't be just Knights. It never is. -I won't mind killing a few Dornish. -It won't be Dornish. It'll be the King's men. I don't want to have to traipse off to the Seven knows where and kill other Reachmen just because some Lord's got his knickers in a twist. Do you? -I won't do that. -Will we have a choice? Will we even be able to choose what side we're on? -How could you join that rabble, you moron! -But, my love, you don't understand... -I understand you could be dead, you stupid twat! -Lord Eldon is evil... -They're ALL evil. Who gives a fuck about some Lord from lands hundreds of miles away! He'd have been gone in a few days! -The Septon said... -And who gives a fuck what some pissy Septon said! Is he dead? Is his blood on the ground? He's no better than those Fires who want to spend OUR blood to get what they want! How could you be such an idiot! Will you run like a rabid dog whenever some Septon or noble throws a stick? This is what happens when people rise up against the laws and rule of good King Daeron, a lot of men will die, most of them men like you! -You don't understand. There are higher principles... -Higher principles than your life, you foolish lackwit! Might I remind you, you wouldn't be here to continue your stupidity if that Levalle Senechal hadn't pulled you from the wreckage of this madness, and someone may still want to come and hang you! Have you not been listening to the man who saved your life! Malyk has been trying to warn us for days. Have you listened? NO, because his words are not fiery and stirring like the Septon, he is just a good man who speaks common sense. Obviously someone needs to shout in your ear to get through that thick skull. When you finally manage to get yourself killed for your 'higher principles', what will your wife and children do! Malyk is now known as supportive of Blood-There appears to be dissents within the ranks of House Levalle. -I thought the Spongeholder ran a thight ship? -Aye, mostly, but he is rumored to favor King Daeron, but his liege lord swings otherwise. -That must be awkward. -And now his bannerman, Ser Parmen Redwyne, and brother to Redtusk went about praising Ser Daemon. -The Redwynes are mostly in the Blackfyre camp so that is hardly surprising. -Or maybe this is just the Spongeholder playing both sides? -Hopefully pissing off both sides so that he'll get stripped of lands and title no matter who wins. Parmen is now known as supportive of Fire

Day 12The final day of The Black Tourney is greeted by a very fine hot day, too hot for the tastes of some, and the Mander becomes enticing for many to go visit, even bathe in, drawing more to spy on ordinarily prudish ladies with only small-clothes to cover their modesty, bathing outside trumps propriety, smallfolk cares naught for even that, but they do not get to visit the white sandy beach that the Tyrells have built. To many, the end of this harrowing tourney is very, very welcome. But the events over the past two weeks have made it abundantly clear that everyone is running out of time, and soon everyone will be leaving. Who knows if another chance will present itself to build alliances and make preparations for the storm that most surely is gathering. Once everyone says goodbye, the next time they meet may very well be on the field of battle. Blood: 16 (+1 Threshold) Fire: 26 (+3 Threshold) (Pending resolution of the Grand melee, there is still +1 Fire/Blood on the line). Note: One should generally not roll for event participation before one's part in the melee has been resolved (due to penalties from injuries/wounds), events will remain open for some time after the melee is concluded. Events: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/829/day-12-inheritance-squabbles-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/830/day-more-scholarly-pursuit-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/831/day-tales-tell-tomorrow-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/832/day-12-matchmakers-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/833/day-12-feast-champions-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/834/day-12-remembrance-wanted-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/835/day-12-river-lady-eventgreatbastards.boards.net/thread/836/day-12-stand-event(Some rumors are also pending and will be added later, melee isn't resolved yet and some other stuff in the pipeline) - The Brute of Bracken committed murder twice over yesterday. - Aye, that morning start goes where he wills it. - Ser Marlon of Kingsbridge was a brave and true man, trying to stop the Brute. - A valiant but futile effort, even if it brought the late Lord Blackwood some time. - How many times can this monster we allowed to get away with this kind of thing? - This should be the end of it, he should face the headsman's axe. - Ser Balon Blackbriar may not have delivered any blows on those The Brute slaughtered but he is complicit too by clearing a path for this scheme. - They're both the vilest of blackguards. - We may have another tournament soon. - The Reach oft has tourneys, what would make this one so special? - Well, while the Starlings do not have House Tyrell's wealth and influence, they can offer a most attractive prize and Lord Willem Starling was heard discussing the idea... - The Lady Lysette's hand? Surely that would attract many fine knights. - True, true. But Lysette is apparently wroth at the idea. - No doubt she has seen here that many fine knights are not fine men. - She is too proper a lady to cause a scandal, but made every effort to speak against such an idea without dishonouring herself or her father. - Ser Randyll Peake's slaying of Ser Jarmen Caswell was no accident. - You've told that tale twice this evening already cousin and found little agreement, give it a rest. - I know combat - a trained knight's sword doesn't seek out that gap in a gorget during a melee with will behind it. - You know drinking with that wild talk. - Mark my words, the killing was a message to Lady Blackbriar. - Let us hear this theory once more then, then let that be the last of it. - Well, Lady Erena Blackbriar is of Caswell stock and Lady Shiera Blackbriar is of Peake heritage. Doubtless Lady Shiera had her friends back at Starpike fatally "chastise" Ser Jarmen. Remind Lady Blackbriar of how many friends Lady Shiera can call on if she feels the house is moving in the wrong direction. - To put the Lady of her own house in her place? They may hate each other but that seems a step too far. - Far-fetched to your ears maybe, but no less true. Lady Shiera always thought herself too grand to be confined to minor house politics. - Ser Paxter Crane fell yesterday. Yet another death. - Ser Tommard may not have meant it - he was charging and Ser Paxter was sorely beaten already. - I will not damn him as a murderer, unlike some in the melee, but the least he could have done is see his foe to the maester's tent. - Thank the Seven for noble knights like Ser Preston Oakheart, he did the right thing even if his efforts were in vain. - A grim day for Lady Janei Crane, to see her son struck down. - There are more grim days for all of house Crane in store, for his younger brother Ser Olyvar will now be heir. - He is a strong knight but has the making of a poor lord - the man is overly fond of drink. - Such a vice might not have been too much of a liability in a second son, but risks much in a future lord. - Mayhap being heir and then lord will be the making of him. - Or the ruin of him and his house. - I wonder if we will see Ser Garth Oldflowers up and walking today. Ser Jonothor Wellbeck was most brutal against him, very unknightly. - Not just most unknightly, most political. - What schemes do you see here? - Well, Ser Garth's lord brother is a noted loyalist for King Daeron, he won't have rebel talk in his hall. - Ah, and Ser Jonothor won his knighthood against the Dornish. - Indeed, knighted by the late lord Bryce Bridges, Seven be merciful. Ser Jonothor's brutal assault delivered a message. - A compelling point, detestable stuff. - We need to get a seat at the melee early, I want to be sat near Lady Leonella Crane. - You and half the men here. Blue blond hair, striking Andal looks... - A mystery that she is still not wed yet. - She wards off courtship as stoutly as Stormbreaker fends off knights, albeit with more grace. Seventeen already and as yet not betrothed. - Even if a man were to somehow win her favour, sour old Lord Crane would be a second, even greater obstacle. - Quite so, "Pennypincher's" title is well earned, he'd be hell to negotiate marriage terms with. - We shall see if any man is stout enough to storm these twin keeps and win the prize! - She is truly beautiful, perhaps beautiful enough to risk being left dowry less and funding a wedding by Lord Erryk Crane. - I never had you down as a romantic, willing to risk penury for love? - I'm a true Andal man, who could resist such a woman. - Have you heard all this gossip about Lord Durwell? - Oh, do tell! Which beautiful woman has he deflowered now. - Let us see if I can quite recall: Laena Pyre, Shiera Seastar, Mya Rivers, Alena Flowers, Alicent Yronwood, Ysilla Flowers, Ashara Starkwood and the Father knows who else! - That is quite the list of conquests. - Exactly my point. - Whatever do you mean? - Well, Marq Durwell is a handsome man and his comings and going are of interest to many, no? - True. - Well then, those are just two good reasons servants, guardsmen and so on would remember him. There is no way he could carry on like that for long. - Good point, he's clever enough to pull off a clandestine affair or two, but would have been spotted by now. - Exactly, the whole thing is probably just gossip. - Lady Ashara Starkwood is keen to remain so, rather than becoming Lady Ashara Cordwayner even if it means being the lady of a fine house one day. - Well, who could blame her given all the scandal that has attached itself to the Cordwayner name at the tournament? - No wonder the chivalrous Ser Roland Cordwayner left Hammerhal, with his niece's wanton behaviour, Lady Cordwayner's open advocacy for treachery and all this while led by a field mouse. - Small wonder the Seven saw fit to shame Lady Maegelle at that feast! - Ha! - Not only that, she may fear being held hostage against her father's actions during any conflict in the Reach. As you said, House Cordwayner appears to be for the king. - Well, whether it be due to politics or concern for what little virtue a half-Dornish woman possesses, I cannot blame her for steering clear of the Cordwayners. - Boots ill suit a dancer anyway. - I think I have it, I have cracked the mystery! - Which mystery specifically cousin? We are up to our ears in murder suspects, rumoured affairs and scandal. - The Falcon! - What makes you so sure, people have been searching for days, keen to earn the rewards and prestige of uncovering her. - She's fits the description from the ball perfectly - raven haired and lithe. - For once you're on to something - Lady Ashara is quite the dancer, and the Falcon moved most elegantly win her prize. You could see dark hair beneath the Falcon mask. - Exactly, exactly. It all fits together perfectly, the hair, the finesse of movement. - By the Seven, is there nothing the Spongeholder won't sell to further himself! - Not just what is being sold, but the identity of the buyer. - Exactly, I would expect Lord Alliser Levalle to get the highest price for his daughter. - Indeed, many lords do the same - whether the gains made be diplomatic or material. - But here is where the Spongeholder lives down to his wicked reputation - lords are still fathers. - And in offering his own flesh and blood to Lord Eldon Merryweather he crosses a line few have the stomach for. - Plus it is a life of misery he dooms his daughter too, not just a single night for some plot. - One thing to be the pig's mistress or bedmate for some plot, another to marry that vicious pudding. - Lady Alicent Yronwood's rescue, so swiftly turned to opportunity and another woman's doom. - House Merryweather is rich and a fine ally, but few will associate with them. As ever, the Spongeholder sees opportunity in dirtying himself. - But how times change! Before he sold others to a king for advantage, now his own flesh and blood to a detested lord. - Ser Aerion Baratheon lived up to his name yet again! - What a sight, the Stormbreaker facing down four of the realm's finest knights. - And even taking Ser Dennis Hightower down with him. Most men would fail to do so in single combat, let alone given such poor odds. - It was most inspiring, if were were to be denied him facing off against Ser Daemon Waters then this was surely the next best thing. - Very much so. It will live long in the memory of all that saw it - tenacity in defense and then power to counterattack. - To say nothing of the bravery needed to even face such a company. - By the Seven, Ser Aegor Rivers brought together a truly infamous band. - Indeed, rarely can such a group of mad dogs have been brought together - The Brute of Bracken, Ser Robyn the Mauler... - Ser Lambert Scorpionsbane, now having met his own bane. Even Bittersteel himself near enough slew Ser Kyle of the Misty Moors. - I saw that, but unlike you I did not recall the name of so minor a knight. A most vicious blow, Bittersteel was striking to kill even though it was but a melee. - That matches what my eyes told me, even though it saddens me to say it. The maesters say it is a miracle Ser Kyle survived. - Bittersteel is so driven that he will stop at nothing. He put together a team of dishonourable mad dogs that no other team would have, all in the name of his ambition. - And then set them loose on good and honourable men. For shame. - That strange Levalle seneschal has been everywhere. - I don't normally notice the help, but I had heard tell of that curious man before the tourney, and his eyes make him hard to miss. - Well, according to my daughter's nurse, he has been scurrying about making sure the smallfolk are well tended. - Whatever could a compassionate man like that be doing serving a wretch like Lord Levalle? - Lord Tyrell's own Maester, Perwyn, was even heard to praise the senechal, saying that even if great lords do not see all the little things he does, all can observe the large difference their cumulative effects make, even if they do not notice the source. - Here's to him, then, even if we are no closer to knowing why he remains with Lord Levalle. Surely he could fit service better suited to his gentle heart elsewhere? - Perhaps such a soul even sees the good in the Spongeholder? - Now I know you've had too much to drink this early, let us see if we can walk it off. -House Levalle gains +1 influence-Ser Daeron Waters certainly lived up to his nickname during the melee! -Gods, he attacked another dwarf?! -What?...No. Wyldfyre man, Wyldfyre! He fought like a man possessed especially once he discovered that The Brute of Bracken had killed on of his fellow Companions. -I hadn't heard. What happened? -Ser Daeron and his men charged Ser Otho without care and beat the Brute down then turned and fought a host of others including Fireball himself. Daeron fought until he collapsed from sheer exhaustion and the many blows he took. Fortunately Lord Lothston was there and gallantly escorted him off the field. -Ah yes, Lord Lothston is the very soul of "chivalry". -Why do you say that with a smirk? -Because the Black Bat spent so much time escorting knights off the field that it is a wonder that he ever had chance or cause to draw his sword. -Now that you mention it did seem like Lord Lothston left the majority of the fighting to others on his team. -Let's just say that his squire won't have too spend much time cleaning armor today. - It is whispered by sharp observers of the court, but Ser Aladale Levalle was the first knight I've known to come out and say it directly. - I heard that speech as well! Telling all that would listen that Lord Levalle's recollections matched Lady Laena's accusations: Lady Johanna Meadows lay with the king. - Not just lay with the king, but his timing matches Laena's as to the timing. House Meadow's platinum haired heir may be no heir at all, but yet another royal bastard. - Ugh, as if we needed more. - Well, if anyone would know who had been washed and brought to the late king, it would be the Spongeholder and his family, no? - Ser Aladale didn't stop there either, noting that Lord Ilyn Cordwayner's children have his half brother's blond locks rather than his own dark hair. - His brother is dark too, is he not? - Aye, though recently shorn, perhaps to quell such talk? Ser Quentyn Cordwayner is a knightly sort unlike his timid "father", and the stories of Lady Denyse Cordwayner make her out as a lusty sort. - Just what you would expect from bastard blood rather than a true born noble lady. - Bastards are born of lust and lies and pass this on, it is well known. +1 Blood, Aladale is known as a Blood supporter.- Do you know Ser Orton Ambrose? - I have seen him joust a few times, he was sworn to Hammerhal once. House Cordwayner used to be a beacon of chivalry, even if few remember it under the timid Lord Ilyn Cordwayner. - Just so, just so. And like many fine men he was eventually driven from that storied keep by Lady Maegelle Cordwayner. - He's sworn to Lord Durwell now, is he not? - Yes, and finally broke his long, loyal silence when deep in his cups. - By the Seven, if the walls at Hammerhal could talk! What tales did he tell? - He gave witness to what was previously just rumour, based on the Cordwayner heir and his sister's bright blond hair. - Let it not be so, but it would not surprise were it so - Lord Ilyn Cordwayner has been cuckolded? - I am afraid so, and many times over. His heir and his daughter are both sprung from his wife's long running affair with Lord Cordwayner's bastard brother, Ser Normyn Flowers. - Well, Lord Cordwayner and his younger brother are both dark haired indeed... - Ser Orton kept his silence for a long time, many men would have talked before now even if they still swore their sword to the lord i question. - Even if Lord Cordwayner knew of this, I imagine he would be too timid to take action. He is an embarrassment to the family's long martial history. - Nobody was satisfied with Lord Tyrell's decision at the Septon's trial. A lord so brave in combat but so meek in rulership! - In trying to dodge the issue he satisfied neither camp, when a decisive choice would have least satisfied one side. - I heard tell that Lord Eldon Merryweather was most displeased, and immediately offered a bounty of one thousand gold dragons for the Septon's head. - A thousand gold dragons? Pull the other one, that's as much as Ser Roland won for making it all the way to the final of the joust. - Your point? - Life is cheap as we have seen all too often over the last week. There are plenty of hired thugs that could do the job for less. - Fair, fair. And with more discretion too I imagine. - I'm glad you follow. Not just that, but such could be handled more subtly than with a public bounty. - Perhaps you are right then, this is probably nothing but iddle prattle. - Exactly - people underestimate Lord Merryweather at times. He is corpulent and has foul appetites, true, but men should remember that he is cunning too.

- Ser Lambert Scorpionsbane is already being called Ser Lambert the Blackguard in death. - By whom? The Dornish dogs who slunk away from him while he was alive? - By everyone who saw him try to kill an injured and weakened Lord Ulbert with that mace of his! Just because he did his duty and married a Dornish women at his king’s command. - Well, not to say he doesn't deserve it, but no wonder men are braver in damning the Blackguard now that they don't have to face his sword. - Aye he was fearsome alright and even more so with a mace. Didn’t stop Ser Symon from shoving a tourney sword through his visor. That one was in a red rage when he saw what Ser Lambert had done to his father. - Well we can all understand the desire for vengeance but still that is no excuse for Ser Symon to brutally slaughter him in retaliation. Damn hot-headed Dornishmen!
- Did you see the Peakes band together during the melee and try to slay Ser Desmond Bridges? - You are seeing things again. All I saw was a battle where Peake’s forces proved the stronger. Nothing untoward about that. It’s a melee not a damn maester’s conclave. -Maybe so, but they singled out Ser Desmond for special attention and aimed and landed dangerous blows. You would have to be naive to think that was coincidence given Lord Peake’s prejudices against the Dornish and half-Dornish. - That much is true. Perhaps they were trying to clear the way for a true Reachman and supporter of Ser Daemon to take the reins of House Bridges? - Now your eyes are open. I tell you there is a link between Lord Peake, Ser Farmun and Bittersteel and woe to Ser Desmond if he is crushed against those three.
- I could scarce believe my eyes. - I was there too sister, so I can confirm the Seven have not robbed you of your senses. Lady Laena really did hug Ser Balon Blackbriar at his father's wake. - Well, bastards are bold. And Great Bastards make normal bastards look tame in comparison. - They also rarely do anything without an underlying purpose. So what was Laena’s? - To find herself a strapping husband before this tourney ends? Even as comely as she is, she is already a widow with two small children. She is not getting any younger. - Mayhaps but with that one I suspect some broader purpose like creating a bridge between Starkwoods and Blackbriars to survive the upcoming conflict. - Makes sense. Do you think it will succeed? - Not if Lady Shiera has anything to say it won’t.

- Well, well I guess that the Seven declared that Ser Dagos was innocent after all. - Innocent of murder perhaps but still guilty of being a Dornish snake. The way he acted during his combat against Ser Balon? No Reachman would make a mockery of a sacred trial like that. - Aye he refused to fight as a proper knight. Can’t say I blame him too much, Ser Balon is a demon with that longsword. - The whole trial was a sham from start to finish. The accusers never managed to present any real evidence. - Agreed, it seemed as if the trial was staged like a mummers play with the final act being that farce of a trial by combat. - Sadly its becoming typical of Lord Leo to try and weasel his way out of making tough decisions regarding justice. Hard to believe that one so fearless in the saddle can be so timid in a Lord’s seat!
