Lord Tyrell have given his personal friend and perhaps most powerful bannerman, Lord Gormon Peake, leave to cordon off and set up a grand masquerade ball in the gardens, servants have been busy throughout the day to make the arrangements, many courtyards and gardens have been fenced in to serve as the area in which the festivities will happen from early evening and far into the night. Canvasses have been rigged to quickly be able to give shelter against sudden rain, but of this there seems to be no danger. Hundreds of colored lanterns fills the gardens with a soft glow, there is live music coming from the balconies, Butterbumps dances around garbed all in green, with enormous gloves fitted to the back of his palms, trading barbs and banter in equal measure, and ever eager to make the wombs of maidens quicken with a touch. A great many nobles are delighted to attend the spectacle, all are wearing masks and most are difficult to recognize by sight alone. Some are easier than others, there is no mistaking the girth of Lord Eldon Merryweather, savagely attacking a pie while his eyes undress young ladies unfortunate to find themselves in his field of vision. The booming laughter of Lord Willum reliably signals his location. The elderly Lord Hightower is recognizable by having to find himself a seat and endure the company of Lord Eldon. All around there is music, dancing, gossip, conspiracy and a delightful air of secrecy and the notion that nothing is true, everything is permitted. Every now and then, Lord Gormon, garbed in cloth of cold and wearing a gilded mask have the trumpet sound to announce some new attraction, sometimes a game, sometimes a performance. Distractions providing cover to steal away are in abundance.
Note that except for this specific event only, any bonuses from chivalry/virtue does not apply to any other scene or event that takes place during the ball.
Stage 1: By Invitation Only (Obligatory)
In order to be allowed entry, you must have an invitation, Lord Gormon sends these out to prominent members of the nobility, primarily to those he considers friends of the Daemon Blackfyre or hopes to win over to their number, and of course all those who he does not want to insult by overlooking, but with a word in the right ear, or a hand in the right pocket, such an honor can be bestowed upon others as well.
Restricted Event: Lord Gormon will only consider granting invitations to Lords, knights and ladies. Other characters may not attempt the status tests and must seek some other way of gaining entrance if so desired.
Status(reputation)+chivalry/virtue, TN 12, the TN is increased by +3 for anyone without a positive chivalry/virtue score, with an additional +3 for known vocal supporters of King Daeron. The Famous benefit applies if one has a positive chivalry/virtue score. Known Blackfyre supporters gains +1D.
Failure means that you are not invited to the party and thus cannot gain entrance and are cut off from participating in the associated events.
Critical Failure will brand you as a grasping individual who do not know your proper place, -1 influence.
Spending a destiny point or one glory or influence will immediately grant you an invitation.
For the creative soul, obtaining an invitation through other means is not outside the realm of possibility (inquire with the narrator if you wish to attempt it).
Characters with the Great Bastard benefit are automatically invited, as are those with a relevant sponsor benefit.
Stage 2: What to wear? (Obligatory)
You may choose to simply show up in your finery and receive a generic mask at the door (counts as automatically taking 0 DoS result on this stage), but this is, after all, a masquerade ball, most impressive are those who come with their own costumes, assuming they are of good make, of course.
Deception(disguise) (+1D for taking extra time allowed) TN 12, you gain a modifier equal to the DoS to selected tests in related events (referred to as costume bonus), critical failure instead sets this modifier to -3.
Special: Each 100ss spent on preparing a costume grants +1b to the test. Characters with the Wealthy benefit gains the full bonus for free, members of House Levalle receives +1b without additional cost (because of splurging on accommodation). The mask given to Ser Balon grants +2b for free.
Special: Characters with the famous quality must loose it's benefits for the event and scenes taking place at the ball, or suffer the effect of a critical failure on the above test (any other result, whether the test is rolled or not, is null and void)
Note that except for this specific event only, any bonuses from chivalry/virtue does not apply to any other scene or event that takes place during the ball.
