This event is mostly freeform, as the selection of the queen and love of beauty under ordinary circumstances is determined by the winner of the joust, who frequently carries the favor or rides for the honor of some lady already and grants her the honor. In which case the effects of her receiving the crown of roses is already described in the consequences of the steel and ribbons event.
If the champion rode for a lady and does not crown her, she loses all virtue gained plus one. And he loses all disposition gained and then an additional three points. If he then proceeds to crown another, he loses two chivalry and the disposition of the lady he originally rode for drops by an additional 3 points.
If the champion rode for none (or another lady), the lady of his choice receives +2 virtue and her disposition towards him improves by 3.
It has not been unheard of for champions to sometimes have been swayed by a pretty girl or other enticements or fancies into choosing quite differently than most have imagined.

Lord Marq rides forth after his victory, being given an elaborate crown of white roses to grant to the Queen of Love and Beauty, for a few long moments he seems to admire the thing. Lady Tanda beams with pride and anticipation, and then he speaks, without mentioning names he makes a moving speech about all those lost to the tragedies of the tournament and how the festivities that should have been so grand turned out to be nothing of the sort. When contests and competition for honors and glory have turned out to be such vicious battles in a war nobody wants, yet most seem fit to push in this direction anyway, would it not be better to forego them entirely? It is a good speech, nice and short. Putting words to the feelings that Lord Tyrell and many gallant knight of the Reach have held in their hearts. For those who enjoy the stability and competence brought by King Daeron's reign, it seems to be an affirmation that Lord Marq is one of them, denouncing the foul supporters of Daemon Blackfyre. For those who would seat the Great Bastard upon the Iron Throne, it sounds like a stinging rebuke of everything that goes wrong when gallant knights are replaced by Dornishmen and mystics by a man sitting upon a stolen throne. Lady Tanda fails to notice any of it, her mind entirely occupied by the crown that she is denied, which Lord Marq instead sees fit to throw onto the dirt beneath the feet of his horse. She looks at Lady Amerei and their eyes meet, the whore is all arrogant and in triumph, as if saying "Take that, bitch! I won, he is mine and you can go marry Lord Eldon". Oh, how she hates her, and hates him, and loves him.
The Disposition of Tanda towards Marq and Amerei drops by 4 points, Amerei's disposition towards Marq increases by 4 points.

Vanquished, but proud to have finished in second place Roland applauded Lord Durwell's noble sentiments. His own inadequate horsemanship had prevented him from having to choose between Janna Hightower and Alicent Yronwood, but he had ridden well in previous rounds and tried to address his performance in the round.
It was only later that he realised Marq had deftly avoided making a choice. Sometimes, making no choice was still a choice. His old swordmaster Ser Gurney had oft told him to be decisive, "A poor decision can be reversed, a delayed decision cannot be." However, all judged Lord Durwell a clever man, so doubtless he was simply waiting for the right moment.

Laena must admit, if only to herself, she's disappointed with the result. After fighting his way to the top, she thought that maybe Lord Marq would use the opportunity to make a political masterstroke, awing her with its majesty. Instead, he just kept playing the same game as before. Playing it well, mind, but it didn't even nudge the status quo, let alone shake it. If not now, when? Her attention shifts to Ladies Tanda and Amerei. She sees them care *so much* over who was crowned, and, for a moment, she despises them with a terrifying intensity. She never had the chance to be excited over something so small, instead she was taught to read the currents the giving revealed. She tries to imagine her sitting as she accepts the crown, being the centre of attention, and beaming in simple joy of the moment. It doesn't last long. Something so implausible just falls apart under scrutiny. The girl who could do such a thing died a long time ago, if she ever existed at all. She reaches next to her, and lifts Sylvina up onto her lap so she may see better. "Use your eyes, like I taught you. When we get back to our tent, tell me what you saw." she whispers into her daughter's ear. And she herself watches the waves and eddies of power flow around the field, centred around a lovingly-crafted crown of white roses uncaringly trampled into the dry earth. Unorthodox, unchivelrous and even cruel, but a statement that rang true all the same. Somehow Lord Marq continued to balance that knife edge of propriety without seeming to suffer the consequences. Or if he was to it did not seem as if it bothered him. This was his world and we were all merely living in.
Titus couldn’t help but to wish that Roland had sent him flying. Or that Titus would have gotten the chance for that matter. Or even his father. Someone who would not make a mockery of a beautiful tradition, nor break the heart of a young maiden.

This is a clever man, making the royalists think that he's on their side while clearly condemning King Daeron and lionizing Blackfyre. He hides it well, but it appears that he truly is with us now.
Now if only he could've picked one of these maidens and quelled the rumors about his.. preferences, he could've formed stronger alliances within our cause.

When the crown of roses hit the ground a loud clang went off in Malyk's head. The world seemed to shift and for a moment he could only focus on Lord Durwell. You are the puppetmaster.
Feelings Malyk had had for some time seemed to click into place. The speech Lord Marq gave was beautifully crafted, like a piece of art... and like all art, took on the feelings, emotions and interpretations of all who experienced it. He had long sensed a dark shadow behind much of what was happening. What had confused him was the puppetmaster seemed to be playing both sides. He knew the person had to be both ruthless and soulless, but he'd assumed there was an agenda he could not see; a goal he could not divine.
You don't care about either side, do you. It's not about money or power or ideals. It not even about showing the nobles how foolish and hypocritical they are. You want a war... because it will amuse you. It is not winning that matters, it is the game. You play chess with yourself because no other opponent is worthy of you. The people on either side, meaningless pieces to be sacrificed for your enjoyment. You're not good or evil. Such things are the concern of lesser mortals. You are just completely amoral.
Malyk thought for some time.
You can't be sure.
You have no evidence beyond a collection of little things that would seem meaningless or co-incidental.
But you are sure anyway.
He looked at the two women dancing to Marq's tune; behaving exactly as he expected them to behave. He wondered if one or both would be dead by the time this was done. He looked at the crowd who cheered the man on in admiration. They seemed oblivious to the part they played.
He could not tell anyone, of course. Even Lord Levalle might think him mad. With only two days left what could he accomplish? Lord Marq was the winner of the Tourney and respected by one and all. Accusing such a man of anything without a shred of proof would be suicide.
He closed his eyes and prayed to the Father. Why do you show me this now when there is nothing I can do about it?
The answer seemed to come to him almost immediately. It is not your job to stop the storm. It is only to keep as many safe as you can.
OOC: In modern terms, Malyk views Marq as a Charismatic Psychopath. The little 'practical jokes' and 'amusing wagers' he is famous for just the small tip of a very big iceberg. I don't know for sure if Marq is the 'shadowy figure' behind much of the chaos that been the theme of the Tourney, but Malyk believes it based on hints and actions throughout the game, even if there is nothing he can do about it. I only post it here to see if I am actually right or not when the chronicle finishes. He will keep this to himself. He can't win either way. If he is wrong, he will be accusing a respected noble with no evidence. If he is right, someone is likely to try to burn him as a witch again.

Oh, how she hates her, and hates him, and loves him. Do what you always do you piece of shit, ride the fence. Balon had come to see his cousin crowned the Queen of Love and Beauty and instead got a bullshit speech by Lord Marq. He crossed his arms and scowled as Marq threw the crown into the dirt. With any luck Tanda's crush on him will end with this affront and Gormon will see her married to Ser Willas (Tyrell). Balon was still angry over his tilt against Ser Manfryd, no doubt Lord Marq looking to curry favor, and this farce further enraged him. He didn't want to hear the excuse that everyone assumed Balon and Manfryd would tie. Marq did what he always did, play whatever side would reward him most. Sure he was going to ride with Ser Daemon in the melee tomorrow but knowing him he'll invite the Princes to his castle to feast with them and garner favor. In a way Balon hoped the Durwells sided with the King when the war came. He imagined burning his lands and killing his men until he put his sword through that smug face. Fuck you.[-2 Disposition Marq Durwell]

Hmm, I guess I should be adding: Marq intrigues the crowd.: 8d6k5+3 29Attractive Rerolls: 3d6 5At least everyone in the crowd thinks Marq's breach of tradition was a very noble thing to do, well almost everyone, one might attempt the following tests for clues: Cunning(logic) to try and figure out what he might be playing at. Awareness(Empathy) to try and gauge reactions of various people, specify which, may make up to three tests. Can target Marq directly to try and figure out what he's up to that way.

During any other tourney, Daeron would've taken such an elegant speech for what it's worth at face value, but here at the Black Tourney as he was calling it he found reason to analyze everything, or at least as much as he was able. Who knew what hidden meaning might lie within Lord Marq's words? Queen of Love and Beauty-Cunning (Logic): 4d6k3-1 11
