Go go Ser Aerion! Great when PCs "go for it" on rolls and disrupt canon early, lets us write our own exciting story. Creates some potentially fascinating rivalries and hopefully the start of a great story. greatbastards.boards.net/post/2278/thread

And here I was, plotting an epic early showdown between Bloodraven and Bittersteel, hmmmmm. Although since she's like, the most desirable prize on offer, at least for those not seeking specific alliances, you are setting yourself up for a potentially very tough match for the first round of the joust.

Yeah I figured as much. Which is unfortunate because he's good but not great. But isn't it as written only relevant to opponents if you tie with someone? And the DoS from tourney enrollment determine relative difficulty of first few rounds? (although you can do whatever you want).

No, if you tie, then the default is that the lady suggests that the two may duel for her favor. NPC's may still challenge you over it if you beat them
Also, since she's a primary NPC, she may have motivations that overrides your dice rolls, but you're in a good position to challenge whoever she picks if it isn't you.

Ah. I mean I can't expect her favour without a fight, but preferably since she's sought by many then not all of them are powerhouse jousters. Plus, if a peon challenges me first, would that preclude another challenge? Or will I have to go through everyone?

Just one challenge for the favor, as far as the event rewards are concerned anyway. Although in Shiera's case, the most likely outcome is a duel between whichever two she wants to be fighting over her.
