"'Contribute', maybe. 'Use for his own ends', definitely. And anyone who confidently claims they fully understand what that man's goals are is a deceiver, decieved, or, more likely, both." She sniffs, and takes a sip. "But that is my problem. You and I, we have an accord, yes?"
[Assuming he agrees, Laena will thank him for the wine, put her glass down, get up, curtsey, and leave gracefully.]

"Or Lord Bracken selects another and we simply shared wine" Eustace lifts his cup in silent toast to the agreement before draining it, though Daeron received as many refills as he wanted, his counterpart appears to live a life of temperance.

As a number of knights clamor to be the one selected, Ser Normyn Flowers remains silent but for a quiet mutter about how most of them would be slaughtered like sheep, Redtusk to the surprise of no-one is eager to test himself against a foe like Ser Rhys, although he is not entirely convincing, seeing that he seems more interested in a good fight than actually doing whatever it takes to win and Balon does have a history of getting his hatred of all things Dornish make him vulnerable for their tricks. Lord Bracken would not do too badly with one of them as champion, but perhaps someone more reliable could present himself. He could always ask Ser Aubrey Ambrose, not a man known for pushing himself to the front of such a line, but a man who could be relied upon to stand his ground and perform any duty placed on his shoulders.
Normyn passes, some rabble steps forward that won't be considered. Redtusk steps forward: 7d6k5+7 25 5d6+2 14Not considered. If nobody else successfully obtains consideration, the champion choice defaults to Aubrey Ambrose.

Daeron likewise emptied his cup in agreement. He wasn't about to start clinking glasses with men like the Vulture even as he got mixed up in his murderous plot.
The clamoring in the room was interrupted with a sharp screeching sound-a greatsword being dragged on the tiles of the floor of the hall. Once he was convinced that his dramatic entrance had gathered enough attention, he heaved it up to his shoulder and took a knee before Lord Bracken. "My lord, allow me a second chance to put down the Roughneck and to finish the job that I started at Battle Valley. I will not fail his victims a second time."
Surrounded by men of action, he banked on a brief speech having more impact than a long and wordy one and that showing off a greatsword would send the message that he was serious about the duel, even if the Vulture had already dug his claws into Daeron. Laena steps foward to support Daeron. "If my brother, having faced Ser Rhys so recently before, is confident enough to stand before him again, I say he should have the chance. The desire to avenge his prior defeat will push him further than desire for glory alone could manage." She follows Daeron's lead in being short and to the point in her words. Peace - Promote Daeron +Status - TN9: 5d6k4+5 16 2 DoS So, +2 to Daeron's rolls, not that any result could make any mechanical difference, since 5 DoS isn't a thing.

To Reach 20 (and match Daeron's 2 DoS), others like Mikel and Roland seems to need to blow DP or Pious because of that -1D for wrong side, not possible to get selected otherwise.
So it does look likely that Lord Bracken's choice is clear.

Two trumpeters sounds to quieten the crowd for the proceedings to begin. The septon of Harrenhaal steps forward to lead in prayer that The Father Above will help in this judgement and that The Warrior would lend his strength to the arm of the man whose cause is just. Ser Rhys, for what seems to be more mockery than piety has elected to have his shield painted over with the seven pointed star, brandishing his ball and chain, a nasty weapon in strong hands such as his. His squire carries a pike in case Daeron were to elect to fight dishonorably and mount up against an opponent on foot. Daeron's preparations for the day were hardly ideal considering that his bowels did not at all agree with something he ate, or drank. A paranoid man might think The Vulture had wanted to make double sure that the odds would be stacked in the favor of his brother, but getting one's sleep continuously interrupted by the recurring need to rush to the latrines to shit out water is merely a fact of life, Ser Vardis once said that it killed more men in an army than enemy blades and axes ever would. Fate, however, seems to not have in store the insult of such a death, his night may have been ruined, breaking the fast might seem both unappealing and unwise, but the grip seems to have loosened, a much milder effect than previous experiences, but also not unheard of. If perhaps, Daeron was fully intent on seeing the red hot knife cutting off parts that Ser Rhys would miss dearly, or have him chained up to freeze them off at the wall, telling Lord Bracken that perhaps Ser Aubrey would be the better champion on this day would be prudent. Wine was foul?: 2#4d6 11 19Poison loosely based off Wasting Potion, only giving fatigue per DoS, so Daeron starts with 1 fatigue, mostly due to dehydration. Eustace has indeed spiked the wine (and had an equally shitty night), inspiration taken from what happened to me when I was in Africa and the vendor slipped in an uncooked slice of tomato with my fried potatoes, can't remember if I took the risk and ate it, or if it was enough that it was in the bag and a more recent experience with virus I had. Despite a night spent hovering over a latrine pit, Daeron wasn't going to let someone else step in and steal his chance at seeing Ser Simon brought to justice. However, the Vulture was wise to rig the match given that Wildfyre would definitely kill the Roughneck in the event that the duel was going so well in his favor and he couldn't throw it without bringing suspicion down on his own head. Upon entering the grounds he saw exactly what he suspected, that it would be a battle on foot, not a weak spot for him by any means, but certainly one that advantaged Ser Rhys in this instance. So he dismounted his armored steed and gathered up his bastard sword and his greatsword, a performative action for the audience, and once again faced off against the half-breed brute. Ser Rhys advances ominously even as the septon prays for the guidance of The Seven and once the words are spoken, he lunges forward with a primordial roar, though his footing is not quite as sure as he would like. The Roughneck is not as quick and nimble as some other men Daeron has sparred with, and certainly not elegant in his movements. His first strike Daeron manages to put his shield in front of, but even with the oak between him and the wicked weapon, the impact can be felt throughout his entire arm as if he had punched against a solid rock with all his might. Daeron can certainly make no claim not to have been warned of the ferocity he now faces.

Thinking fast, he moved with the momentum of the Roughneck's charge and before turning to the side and giving him the classic push and trip sending the brute to the ground before giving a wicked downward thrust at his leg. Not the most honorable of moves, but he doubted that it would raise too many eyebrows either. Daeron might have started, but Ser Rhys joins in rather eagerly, dragging him down by the knee and in the same motion bringing his metal ball in an upward arch to meet Daeron's chin on the upwards swing to send white flashes into his vision and searing pain shooting up through his jaw on the one side and out the ear on the other.
CD: 8 (13) AR: 11 Health: 5/15 Knockdown+Reckless attack, +1b: 8d6k5 19 8d6k6+1 27 1d6 5So that should be suksessfull knockdown meaning the +1b comes into play to bring it up to 29 which is 4 DoS against the 14 with fatigue? Still powerful so ignores 3 CD from shield, so probably 4 DoS either way. Which should be 9*4-11=25 damage. And Shattering penalty now 2 (-1 CD, -1 AR).

Despite his best efforts he couldn't avoid the spinning ball of death that ripped through his shield and nearly tearing off his head. "Fuck thith," he lisped as he dropped his trashed shield and his bastard sword to the ground and pulled out his wicked greatsword, to the Vulture if he was playing up for the crowd then he was doing a very convincing job. Mostly because his next blow was so savage that it would've dropped an auroch.

One more exchange and then I'm calling it.His vision doubled with that second hit, but he soldiered on stabbing at one of the Roughnecks standing in front of him hoping it was the right one. His arms screamed with the effort however, the battle and exhaustion pushing him to his limits, and he was pretty sure that a little bit of that runny shit came out with his last thrust, an unfriendly reminder of his previous evening.
