Okay setting a timer on this, may have to look at people's health and such and just cut out most from the final scene because "too spent".

I'm fine with "they hacked away at each other until neither could stand, with no clear victor". Conveys the animosity they both feel and resolves nothing.

Hmm, so situation is that Roland and Daeron is through, Davos and Balon is sort of hacking away at each other over to the side, and Aubrey is in better shape than Daeron if Mikel decides to bow out instead of taking a wound to keep going.

Mikel will out instead of taking a wound. I'll try to make a formal post tonight.

Main question is how to treat a 3-way fight, who "jumps" first? Will everyone look at each other good, bad and ugly-style? Will one try to cut it down to two by reckless charge? Will one sacrifice his chance for someone else to get a clear shot at victory?

We could roll initiative and find out for a larger fight? Or pair off? Although that might result in Roland/Ambrose finishing a tired, injured Davos quickly and then it is very tough for Daeron.
Might end up being brief as Davos is in a pretty bad way having done heroically to make it this far with Fighting 4d. Unless Balon is going to take another wound and keep swinging!

There are a few ways to approach it: 1. Roland and Aubrey seeing each other as the main competition while Daeron delivers blows to both in order to try and weaken whoever comes out on top. 2. As above, but Roland and Aubrey will hit back at Daeron also not to give him too much of an advantage. 3. Roland or Aubrey rushes Daeron counting on him yielding quickly rather than take that assailant with him. 4. Daeron playing kingmaker by charging one of the two (or hoping the other one will join in even). 5. Daeron hopes Roland and Aubrey fights while he can wait it out. Possibly jumping on Balon/Davos to clear the path. 6. All 3 dukes it out trying to decide who to hit in any given round based on who is the bigger threat.

Daeron personally would rather finish off a wounded Davos/Balon than tangle with a fresh Roland/Aubrey after having to fight the Grimm Reaper.

Does sound like a case of initiative to determine who gets to move first.

Davos will definitely be quitting the field after his bout with Balon. He is in no shape to be continuing. Considering he was solo and being targeted by Oakheart & cronies, 4th is a solid placement.

Having carved his way through the gauntlet and forced an unexpected and quick yield from Ser Manfryd, Daeron found himself in a good position to win the whole thing, if he was strategic with his next few choices. Appleton Melee-Final Init: 4d6k3-4 9Daeron finished with Ser Manfryd in 2 rounds, so I assume that he's got a chance for a few CYBs? CD: 13 AR: 11 Health: 4/12 W/I/F: 0/1/1

It's generally one CyB in between each set of scenes because it's dynamic and confusing.
Although it's plausible that Aubrey and Roland might allow Daeron a breather for the sake of sportsmanship.
I am thinking just run it as a 3-sided battle.

Timer is set. Once this thread re-appears in my to-do list, absentee PC's gets their puppet strings pulled until they show up or active PC's are no longer in the contest.

The tree finalists eye each other wearily, each knowing the risks of being one the wrong end of a two on one. It would not be gallant to keep their pact now, so Roland goes from ally to rival in the eyes of Ser Aubrey, he watches both cautiously, knowing that being the first to move carries great risk. Ser Aubrey does not lack for courage and bravery, but he is not known for boldness, yielding the initiative to the Kingsbridge companions. Roland CyB+Iniative: 6d6k4 17 4d6k4-2 8Aubrey iniative+CyB: 6d6k4-2 15 4d6 13So Aubrey->Daeron->Roland.....hmmm. Aubrey goes Counterattack/Set for Charge.
