What otherwise promises to be a fine melee, free of most problematic characters, but despite the sunny weather, a slight pall is cast upon the contest by Lord Walgrave's men and supporters acting out his grudges.
Running through the Gauntlet: Agility (Quickness)* TN 6 Endurance (Stamina)* TN 9 Fighting (Any)* TN 12 Warfare (Tactics) TN 9 Weapon Damage* TN 9 Combat Defense* TN 9
You may accept fatigue prior to making these tests, gain +2 to your results per point taken.
*Notes: Armor Penalty Applies to the agility test, as does any bonuses to iniative (including from mount). Gain a modifier to the Endurance test equal to your AR-7. Use the specialty of your primary weapon for fighting, add bonuses to fighting tests with your weapon. Weapon Damage is a dicepool depending on the base damage of your primary weapon: Less than 4=3D, 4=3D+1B, 5=3D+2B, 6=4D+2B, 7 or more=5D+2B Combat defense is a dicepool depending on your CD: Less than 9=3D, 9 or 10=3D+1B, 11 or 12=3D+2B, 13=4D+2B, 14 or more=5D+2B -Using a Sand Steed increases TN's by +3 (because the Oakhearts&friends doesn't like Dornish-lovers).
-Critical Failure: You must yield. -Per Simple Failure: Take an injury (or yield). -Take damage equal to total 24-DoS -You may mitigate damage with injuries as normal, taking a wound mitigates (Endurance+Resilience)*1d6 health. -A selection of the NPC's listed for the joust will be taken through the gauntlet to fill out the field of finalists (narrator likely to roll for the important names, and otherwise until there is "enough"). -The Narrator will set up a combat scene to resolve the final stages of the free for all. Depending on the number of participants, there may be multiple scenes and possible allowances for temporary alliances.
Melee alliances: -Each alliance may designate a captain, up to four team members may forego testing for tactics to take his result instead (must decide before knowing it). -Each member may assist up to two others and gain assist bonus from up to two others on all tests. -It may be possible that there will be some form of group combat in the full melee scenes based on the alliances involved.
Rewards: -Managing to get through to the gauntlet without yielding: +1 Glory, +1 Chivalry, you may claim this reward and pass on participation in the melee scene. -Getting through the gauntlet as team captain: +1 Glory -Winning the Melee: +2 glory, +2 chivalry, +1 coffers in the victor's purse. -On the same team as the victor: +1 glory, +1 chivalry.
Special Consequences: -Taking a wound during Running the Gauntlet and not yielding (Claiming rewards for getting through, with or without participation in the final scene) sets the recovery TN at 21.
Consideration for qualities: Long Blade Fighter 1: May trade bonus dice for increased CD when running the gauntlet. Nemesis (Walgrave Oakhheart): All TN's are at +3 (which also applies to any members of same alliance) and any damage taken is doubled for having to face down knights seeking Lord Walgrave's favor. Vainglorious: Attempts to compel being captain of your own team.

TAM: Vainglorious Resist: 3d6 11 Pass Robyn will put some feelers out, try to see who is teaming up, and if no offers come to ask him to join an already established team, he will ask Mikel and Symon to be on his team. He would also ask both Rolands, Redtusk and Cordwayner, but something tells me that both of them are in pretty high demand. Still willing to roll for it though

Davos knew that Lord Oakheart, his cronies, and those seeking his favor would be aiming for him. He also knew, however, that if he fought alongside others whom Lord Oakheart would not want to cause problems for - for political reasons, chivalry reasons, or personal reasons - it might lessen the excessive aggression. The list of potential members was initially surprisingly long, but he pared it down for an initial attempt to put a team together:
Lord Appleton and his brothers Lord Willem Starling Ser Preston Oakheart
If he could not get a team together from those five, there were several others worthy of consideration, if for skill and reputation of chivalry if no other reason. He did decline to join the other Starkwoods - not that he wouldn't enjoy fighting alongside Robyn and Mikel again, but that would likely only encourage Balon and the other cronies to use fatal force.
Note - Davos will not push to be team captain, though he would perform that role if his team desired.

Redtusk would be glad to have Robyn on his team...except for the small detail that he actually had a mind to give the rest a sporting chance this time around and seek to win the entire thing solo. Lord Starling, as is his custom, forms a team composed of the assembled knights of Kingsbridge, which unfortunately have no room for others. Reaching Ser Preston is difficult given the propensity for Oakheart men to deny him access, but the more indirect route of approach offers up the suggestion that Redtusk might be just the man to see. Ser Preston himself would rather avoid the unpleasantness of the journey home sure to follow. Redtusk choses TN 9: 2d6 4 Critfail on chance for being rational...so Redtusk goes it alone.

Fuck it. Davos thought to himself. I'll go it alone. No sense subjecting anyone else to this petty grudge. Ser Davos Dayne, captain, with his teammates me, myself, and I. Woe be to any that cross our path.
I could go down the list and there are some respectable names there, like Aubrey Ambrose... but nah, if it doesn't put Oakheart into an uncomfortable position, it's not really worth it. The only thing I feel I am missing out on is the chance at extra glory or chivalry if a teammate wins, but this is much more in-character than caring about being on the winning team. Correcting for misunderstood mechanics. Same rolls, just different equipment & math. Ultimately, no change in DoS on any of the rolls. Gear: Superior Fullplate, Superior Longsword, Large Shield. Appleton Melee self control TN 12: 4d6k3 10 Looks like Addam will be leading his own team. Having to many Companions on one team would just make us to big of a target. Better to divide and conquer so that the winner will be from Kingsbridge. Lord Willem should lead one team with Addam leading the other! Willem, let’s split to companions up: 6d6k4+3 23Addam will also be reaching out to his friends, Ser Preston Oakheart and Ser Aubrey Ambrose, to join his team as well. Preston, join my team: 6d6k4+3 20Aubrey, join my team: 6d6k4+3 22(Will make rolls once I know who on my team and what assist bonuses I can get. Ideally I would like 1 Starling PC and if I can’t get both Preston and Aubrey than Ser Vardis to make the 4th. Also open to other PCs if I can’t get a team of 4 together.)

Robyn scrunched his nose at his brother from beneath his helm as Symon lead he and Mikel through the melee. When Robyn approached Redtusk, he hadnt expected to be turned down, especially at the prospect of giving everyone else a sporting chance. Davos, too, thought that he was better off on his own, facing down the sharpest edges of Oakheart's raving cult of yes men alone. So, when Robyn went to his older brother, expecting to lead the charge in this foray as a returning hero from the Riverlands, this third rejection left Robyn quite... miffed. He wanted to lead, and the fact that none seemed to want to listen, especially when they were those Robyn looked up to, didnt improve his mood. This, and the poor turnout at the Joust was really starting to weigh on Robyn, and it showed in his swordsmanship and lack of self preservation. The Redwolf was here to target more than peasants, and no one was going to do it except himself and Fang. TAM: Proud Resist: 3d6 8 Failure, looks like he is only giving assists! Ser Aubrey is intrigued by the offer of joining some of the honorable companions and perhaps other gallant friends.
Ser Preston, being the heir to a major house captains a team of his own, presumably in order to prove his quality, Ser Addam would be welcome to join of course.
Notes: -Symon will be leading the Starkwood team (but PC's might opt to have their own team, he should have a couple NPC's for assists in a pinch, or just not be featured, maybe). -Weapon damage/combat defense actually should offer assists because that makes sense. -In most cases, teams will have 4-5 members, so 3-way assists all around doesn't work, so some assist numbers may be reduced by 1. -Ser Aubrey will join Addam's team, if and only if none of it's members has any negative points of chivalry (things like bastard doesn't count, he just doesn't want to be associated with knights of questionable deeds and behavior).

No stranger to the melee, Roland spent a pleasant day smashing aside foes in the glorious sunshine, trying his best to story Lord Oakheart from settling any old grudges in too bloody a fashion. Admittedly Westeros and Roland had a fairly wide tolerance for "too bloody". Might speed the final melee up if it doesn't?) [OOC: will check on leading a team/joining either Companions or Starkwoods as there were various plans discussed via PM. Albeit might be simplest to win through as a captain and then bow out?] Roland's assists are worth: +2/+2/+2/+1/+2/+2
