Occurs shortly after this joust - greatbastards.boards.net/thread/1171/p2-fyre-festival
Trystane has little problem locating Ser Daeron after his duel with Blackfyre. He had initially thought to collar Lynesse first, but he knew he needed to be careful with her. She was likely to be flighty of him after their first encounter, so letting her perceive anger in him directed toward her, however mild, would make it worse and he would get no answers that way. She could wait until later. Once he finds his brother's tent, he makes his presence known and requests admission. "You look rough, brother," he greets Daeron when he enters and sees Daeron's injury and slight pallor up close. "Might we speak privately?"

“I got impaled a few times, but what’s your excuse?”
His smart-ass comment revealed that he was at least in good spirits after back-to-back defeats and Lynesse’s unexpected betrayal.
He motions towards a chair in his tent.
“Septa Marei won’t be back for a while to check on my wounds, so I expect no interruptions.
You have my captive attention brother, what is it that you wish to speak about?”

Trystane laughs at Daeron's joke and takes the offered seat.
"I wanted to speak on what we are going to do about Piggy and his mutt," he begins, keeping his voice down despite the lack of apparent observers.
"I think we've now fully established that trying to handle them head-on and honourably is not working, and the more times attempts are made, the harder it will get."

"My plans are still in their early stages, but I was looking to form a large alliance of teams to oppose him. In the chaos it wouldn't be unlikely that one of his enemies might strike a grave blow against him or his champion. He might be able to escape justice one challenger at a time, but he has few allies and no friends, meaning that he will be more exposed in the melee. The Levalles and Daverhyls seem to follow his wealth and power, seeking to advance themselves through prostrating themselves to him and we should expect them to add their strength to his.
Though we would face him head on, I don't plan on our forces being evenly matched. I am not the leader of House Starling's team, but I expect that we will be the first in line to oppose the Merryweathers. Will you see it that House Starkwood stands with us?

“I will. But while the melée is a better setting to even our odds, will Eldon even participate? Won’t he expect to be attacked there now? Same for Rennifer.”

“To be honest, I wouldn’t count on it. I know that he has in the past, if you can call watching your men-at-arms fight others for you, but his enemies are greater and more bitter now. If anything though, we can butcher Rennifer and the others and leave him weaker than he is. Without his dread champion, he won’t have the boldness to act as he does.”

“One can hope. However, I don’t think we should leave it to chance in the fight itself. At the risk of sounding like the dishonourable underhanded Dornish snake some think I am, I think we should send in someone to slip him something beforehand.”

"You are free to act as you please, you are a Great Bastard after all, but I will not degenerate myself to his level. I have already been victim of his poisoning this tourney, and I do not intend to make it a fixture of tourneys. Such things are what separates knights from The Pig and his blackguards. Rennifer is not invincible and can be defeated, Ser Roland proved as much at Highgarden, but as I said, I plan on going after him with the odds in my favor."

"As you wish. You are right, of course. Forgive my misspeaking."
A reflexive step back. For appearances, if nothing else. Trystane feels a slight disappointment, and notes that he will have to hide any clandestine tactics from Daeron, which in turn somewhat disturbs him.
You went there very easily. What happened to showing them that their prejudices are wrong?
"I stand with your decision. I only hope that numbers are enough. Who else have you brought to the cause so far?"

"None other than you so far, but now that I am removed from the joust, I have time enough to assemble a larger coalition. I suspect that Ser Daemon himself would be interested in facing down a team of blackguards, just as he has in the past and with him might come Redtusk and a number of other chivalrous and skilled knights.
Do you have any to suggest?"

"Those would both be great help against the pig-dog," Trystane nods approvingly. "I was planning on asking Ser Mikel of Harroway and Ser Davos Dayne. Both are good friends and capable knights. Possibly Ser Aerion Flowers too. I expect Ser Symon Starkwood will want to take a swipe at him as well, so might as well get him involved too, where we can keep an eye on him. He can be rash, and we can't have that undermining the plan."
Trystane taps his chin thoughtfully.
"Assuming all of them agree, would that be enough? Or should we seek out more? Would anyone else from House Starling want to help in Lady Lysette's name? While we want to make sure we can fully succeed, the more people knowing about it means more difficulty in maintaining secrecy. I'm minded to keep this to just people we know for sure we can trust."

"I feel that I can safely assume that House Starling will support me. It was neither my wife nor my daughter who was publicly assaulted and Lord Willem and Ser Aemon likely want their own satisfaction. Although I've made the most open show of my animosity towards Longtable, I am not the only one of the Companions who has such an animus.
As for Ser Mikel, might I recommend that you help him find a position on a different team? Perhaps that of House Blackwood? He seems to draw the attention of the Brute of Bracken wherever he goes and I really do not want to get drawn into the Bracken-Blackwood feud during the melee as our foes will be fierce enough as is. Likewise, I don't see most knights wanting to involve themselves in the Starling-Merryweather feud, not without already having their own reasons to oppose one side or another. We should see if we can uncover any enemies, or friends, of Lord Eldon that might not be quite as apparent though."

"I'll speak with Ser Mikel and see what I can do about that. I think I might know a way to at least lessen Ser Otho's impact in the fight, as an additional security measure. As to finding less apparent individuals with a leaning in either direction, I very much agree. How would you suggest we go about that? We're both at something of a disadvantage for getting close to the relevant people. You for your open hatred of the man, and me for being a foreigner."

He audibly groans, Ser Trystane was right.
“I don’t have a lot of avenues on that right now, my well-informed acquaintances and I aren’t exactly on good terms at the moment, or at least probably aren’t as willing to help me in this matter. Lady Laena and I didn’t exactly part on good terms last I saw her, Lady Lynesse is apparently in thrall to Eldon, and I would never go to Bloodraven for help. Perhaps you have more openings with some of these individuals?”

"I don't know exactly what Lynesse is playing at, given that she seems to have completely changed her tune in a very short time, but I planned on having a word with her anyway about it, so I will hopefully find out. Perhaps if I can find a way to neutralise her uncle and free her from her betrothal, she might be amenable in return."
Or she might be disgusted by your underhanded proposal and slap you again.
"I don't know Bloodraven at all personally. Perhaps introducing myself in familial friendship and leaning on the good reputation of House Starkwood might yield something useful, though it may end up with us owing him a favour. Laena..."
He can practically hear Laena in his head, scolding him for being impatient and reckless. She was probably right. She had already told him that the problem of Lord Eldon was not one that would be solved for generations. Not that it could change this course of action much.
Besides, talking with Laena sometimes had fun side effects.
"I'm on good terms with Laena. I'll talk with her. She probably won't be happy we're doing this, but I doubt she'll try to stop us. She'll probably say we're doomed and pick out a nice funereal gown for herself in preparation for our untimely but entirely self-inflicted demises," he says, wryly.
"Just out of curiosity, what did you do to draw her ire?"
