Master Jasper Blackburn's wares had impressed him and Mikel was back to find something particular. He brought Ser Roland and Ser Cleyton along too. He felt after the day they had it might be nice to set aside any thoughts of murder, abduction, and even duty to just enjoy some finely made weapons. The tools of their craft. Mikel himself paying particular attention to the section of war hammers Master Blackburn had on display.
"In truth I prefer the sword, as mo I believe each if us do. Yet we all know a sword might not be best in some situations. In my traveling years I kept a morning star for those situations as they occurred in the tournaments I traveled to. Yet now with such fine armor all around us it may be better to use something else."

Anything at all would have done to take his mind off the trauma of learning of Daeron's bribery earlier that day.
This was better than "anything at all" - as it offered a subject Roland was well informed of.
"True, true. Few weapons can match the versatility of the sword, its combination of attack and defence."
"You have the strength to make good use of a morning star's weight, such should serve you well against armoured opponents."
"It is a credit to the armoursmiths of the Reach that I expect many knights to favour a pole-axe, warhammer or similar in the melee. Against plate a sword is oft relegated to side-arm status, unless a man has either the skill to find gaps or the strength to batter his opponent in to submission. The greatest can do both, as Ser Daemon demonstrated against the Brute of Bracken."
As they examined Master Jasper's work Roland's hand frequently went to the back of his own head, unconsciously checking the unfamiliar fuzz where his flowing black hair had once been.

Mikel nods as Roland predicts seeing war hammers and pole axes in heavy use during the melee. "The Pole Axe would be a fine choice." His eyes drift to one, full of the fondness one might reserve for a former lover. "I had gone through a bit of an obsession with the spear, then as is often the case her cousin the the pole axe caught my eye." He smiles, thinking himself clever yet the love he speaks of seems real. "Sadly outside of tournaments they really only took up space during my life on the road. When I eventually chose the Morning Star, it was as much that it took up less space when stowed as it was for its effect on armored men."
"So many tools, so many choices. Ser Roland may I ask when you rode to battle against the Dornish how had you armed?"

"I had not considered such - even when I have been on campaign we have always had baggage trains and mules. Life on the road is a very different matter."
"Care with your words however Ser Mikel: Lady Ysilla has plenty of charming cousins, and would not hesitate to make you sweat if you heard her champion's gaze had wandered," Roland teased. Ser Mikel had been bold indeed in seeking that one's favour.
As he spoke of the great bastard, Roland reached for an expertly forged sword of the same name, testing its weight and gauging its reach against some nearby greatswords. They too were cousins of a sort.
In doing so, his mind flashed back to the blade Daeron had been honing earlier. An unpleasant thought, given his comrade's shame...

When Roland urged cautions with his words Mikel stopped for a moment, wondering what he might have said, then laughed at Roland's wit as he finished. "You had me with that one." He shook his head as he concluded appraising the war hammers, set one aside and continuing to look at the other wares. Noticing Roland handling a bastard sword Mikel smiled. "I prefer those myself. Being able to wield in one or two hands allows for a variety of techniques that a longsword or a greatsword cannot match. It also allows me to capitalize on moments when leverage can win or lose me some advantage, and in turn the combat."
Mikel's focus drifted to the daggers, dirks, stiletto's, and knives and while he looked, an idea struck him.
"Ser Roland, I have been most concern with recovering before the melee but I believe some practice at arms would be wise, but perhaps we could give it a fun twist." Judging by his expression whatever he has in mind might not be a typical day in the training yard.

Cleyton chimed in "The weapons of the Reach are good, a bit excessive in decorations sometimes or just very ornamental, he pulled his sword it looked simple and functional "This sword can do the same job a some of those swords with pretty ornaments or decorations, but there is no denying that some swords are a cut above the rest" as he looked at some of the most intricate work that had some decorations and yet they seemed to fit with the quality of the weapons themselves. leaving behind Mikel and Roland as they entered a conversation about Ysilla that drove a few chuckles out of Cleyton and finally when to looks for Master Jasper
"I need you to take measurements of me to make a set of mail armor for myself, I need it to be above the rest, add a shield, and a sword" he left a gold dragon at the table "I have the coin to pay, just remember to have it ready as soon as possible, and make sure the flayed men is displayed on the shield and the pommel of the sword" he would leave enough coin that Master Jasper required if he needed it to start, while he went to search for at least a finer looking tabard to wear over the new mail and maybe some other less important things that could come in handy, like another horse or two.

"Certainly. I have no more desire to be harmed before it then you have to see me so." He smiles. "What I was thinking is that we could spar but with weapons neither of us has invested ourselves in for some time. Mentioning the spear and pole axe has reminded me of my fondness for them. Especially the spear. Perhaps that is how we could arm ourselves for this exercise - unless you have any suggestions, which I would be willing to debate."

D8 Mikel intrigue tiebreak (two incase we tie again!): 3#3d6 14 15 10[OOC: I don't think the Free action status check works as I'm only status 4, but it's a great roll so just keep it and maybe roll one of the other options instead? You can always drop a random dice if the other ability would roll/keep fewer dice.]

"Ser Cleyton" the blacksmith smiled "sword and shield I can have today, and your mail tomorrow" the man spoke with certainty
Cleyton nodded "I will give you half now and the other upon delivery, I will be in the Starkwood pavilion waiting" nodded and a small smirk showed up on his face. as he pulled out several gold dragons from his earnings in the jousts I guess I could give the sword and shield and old mail to whomever ends up being my squire. Just going to have to refit the mail for him. Cleyton finally got to the top eight, perhaps a decent standing house would allow him to take a squire.
