[OOC: With charm your "Damage" (influence) should be equal to your Awareness per DoS: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/17/intrigue. So with Awareness 3 you should be 3 influence per DoS. And no worries - doing this like this is the best way to learn. Delighted to do the same for anyone else that thinks they'd benefit from a live run through.]

"You see, the spear is a truly elegant weapon. It is painfully simple - a stick with a sharp side - yet terribly effective. Whether you face one men afoot or one mounted the reach of it alone can help you to control the distance of the fight. Even if you are unfortunate enough to be faced by two men, or perhaps three, the reach of the spear and its general ease to use and light weight can still help you to control the distance where other weapons such as a great sword, or pole axe, might be just to heavy to react quickly enough."
"The spear can even compete with most armors, yet against plate mail it would not be my first choice. Nor my second or third." He laughs. "Then consider if you were not standing alone but with others to the left and right of you - perhaps a line of men armed the same and well protected. With the right training an army of spears can be dreadfully effective against most other foes. And even if you lack a life of training or proper instruction, as most peasant levies do, the spear is simply enough to allow for enough of a grasp of the basics for them to still be effective. Certainly more effective then if you had armed them all with swords or axes."
