It is a crisp morning, the northern wind delivering a reminder of the only certainty in Westeros, winter is coming. However unlikely the hot sun in the south have made it seem as of late, the Starks are unfailingly proven right. On this day when the odd northerner in camp have nothing but mocking laughter for any shivering knights from the sunny meadows by the Mander Ser Daeron, commonly styled Wyldfyre might examine his boot to find a piece of parchment, informing him him that "the mad dog" so enjoys a walk along the Red Fork before breaking his fast, and it notes that his path goes through a copse of trees where he often takes a piss. Whether that last part is true or just suggests a suitable place to lay in ambush one knows not. Either way, if justice is to be done by one's own hand, that would seem to be the place to lay in wait. A paranoid man might wonder if that would be a good place to get rid of a prominent Great Bastard for the other side, but The Brute of Bracken is surely a more tempting target.
Assuming the whole thing is not a trap: -Daeron (and possibly friends, but it seems likely he'll need to do this solo) may be fully equipped and corner Otho alone and out of sight, likely armed with just longsword, dagger and padded armor. -May grab a standard issue shield to avoid any identifying markings. -May attempt Stealth (Sneak) TN 12 for surprise/ambush, extra time may be spent on the test for surprise (but not ambush) -Given Otho's status as nemesis, he may spend destiny points to avoid any consequences of defeat that would diminish his threat against Mikel. -For each wound inflicted on him, Otho will be out of action for one set of missions, if defeated he will be incapacitated for the entire campaign (he may still show up as an adversary to Mikel due to nemesis, but will otherwise be of no benefit to the Bracken side). -No matter the outcome, attacking him and remaining anonymous delivers a blow to Bracken morale, inflicting -10 Bracken Strength. Being discovered as the assailant carries much more personal consequences, and reduces the hit to -5 Strength. (The exact points may be subject to change since the total amount of points achievable is yet to be set in stone). -If defeating Otho, Daeron gains a morale point, which can be used during phase 3 to gain the effects spending a DP would, but only to improve his own tests and it it cannot be applied retroactively. -This combat will use the proposed changes to combat rules as they presently stand.

Tweaking Victory Point loss to Strength Loss (In short, VP's help when negotiating a treaty, Strength decides the number and quality of forces available in the main battle).

A rustle in the grass or a movement in the trees. Those subtle things would have sent a rat scurrying or a deer bounding through the trees, but those animals were prey and they knew it. They great beasts of the world were rarely so alert to their surroundings given that they had no real predator, after all what creature was bold enough to hunt a bear or a lion? A dragon perhaps? When Daeron got his half-brother’s missive he gave a weary sigh and quickly destroyed it. Even surprised in the wilderness Otho was a terrible foe, but all he had to do was recall the brutal sight of Ser Marlon’s mutilated face to steel his resolve. The Brute would die today. Donning his armor he thanks Master Pate for his well-made, but un-ornamented panoply that goes well with an otherwise unmarked shield and a thin black scarf over much of his face. He was taking no risks in the event that Otho managed to escape or that this whole thing was a trap. Before the break of dawn he has himself set up to ambush the Brute of Bracken, taking plenty of extra time to conceal himself as possible. Unless Otho had been warned there was no way that the predator would realize that he had become the prey. The part about taking a piss seems to be inaccurate, or maybe just not today, but the brute does show up all alone. Mumbling to himself, though it's hard to make out the specific words, something about a girl maybe.
Otho Bracken CD: 11 (13 on first round because sinister). AR: 3 Health: 12 Initiative: 3d6 11Daeron having surprise means he gets +1D, +2 damage/dos on the surprise round, beating his initiative let's you attack one more time before he gets to act. Since surprise round is first round (but not round 1), he'll have CD 11 against the second attack.

Those not bound by honor do not deserve its protection.Like an arrow loosed from a bow, he flies forward to deliver a terrible slash against the Brute of Bracken. True as his aim was, this was the infamous Otho Bracken and even one so stout as Daeron was a bit fearful of him. Especially as he turned around to react before he was ready for a second attack.

The brute turns just right to not have his arm, or head, sliced off, Daeron's sword cuts deep down Otho's back, glancing off his ribcage, with great rage and a monstrous howl the big man is upon the Great Bastard frighteningly quick, one hand taking hold of the swordarm and the other around Daeron's neck, The Great Bastard may have the advantage of armor and having drawn first blood, but this is no longer a fight he can be said to be in control of.
CD: 11 AR: 3 Health: 12 (Tough) Wounds: 1 Fatigue: 1 Grab (fatigue to ignore wound): 7d6k5 23Scary berserker: 7d6k5 19Daeron has -1D on his tests for one round. Daeron can try opposed Fighting(Brawl) to get free (for speed, roll 7k5 for Otho after your own set, you need to score higher than him to break free due to specialty tie-breaker), failing that he'll have to use brawling/short-blades. Can grab back (TN 23).

Daeron was not a small or weak man, but Otho's grip was an iron vise that he couldn't break away from. Equally powerful was the terror that began to grip Daeron. This wasn't a duel of honor with a drunk or a tourney melee, this was life or death and this powerful man had every intention of murdering him. What have I gotten myself into? Purely out of instinct he sends a steel boot into Otho's groin in a very unchivalrous kick as he struggled to escape. If he couldn't break this hold, he could at least make Otho regret it.

Daeron might seem as if in big trouble, but the giant's grip fails him momentarily, but surprisingly quick for one of that size he changes tactics and delivers a blow that would have taken the Great Bastard's head if not for the Kingbridge steel protecting his neck.

A calmer warrior would have realized that he was at a distinct advantage and could wait out and exhaust the wounded Brute, but his Targaryen blood ran hot and it would only be a matter of time before someone else stumbled upon their duel. Despite the savage blow that Otho delivered, he stepped closer to the wild creature and attempted to knock him down with a shield bash, but Otho was as unyielding as an oak tree. However, even the mightiest of oaks could be felled. "Yield and Lord Blackwood might permit you to be ransomed back at the end of this skirmish."

Otho’s attack cut surprisingly deep. Normally Daeron would have been able to fend it off, but he was beginning to falter and tire himself. Settling into a defensive stance he attempts to take control of this battle again. Although his following slash was not as devastating as before, it still struck true.

Daeron holds the advantage, and Otho begins to slow down, but he only needs to let his guard down once for the brute to have a chance to deliver a killing blow.

Bleeding and half-dead, Otho is losing this fight, badly, and through his great rage and instinct to fight to the death, there is enough discipline in his mind to cast his pride away and simply run back to the camp on the footpath running along the river.
CD: 14 AR: 3 Health: 2/12 (Tough) Wounds: 3 Fatigue: 4 Injuries: 3 Red Blooded: 4d6k3 16Greater action: Sprint (cautious technique) Chase mechanics with a few twists: -Opposed Athletics (Run), Daeron gets +1 Advantage if he scores higher than Otho, otherwise Otho gains +1 Advantage. -Daeron suffers -1D to the test because his movement is reduced by 1 compared to Otho due to bulk. -Whenever Daeron has higher advantage than Otho, he may forego testing for athletics to instead make a charge attack (no +2 to damage because Otho runs away), Otho may then sprint for +1 advantage that round, or turn around and continue the combat. -When Otho gains +3 advantage, Daeron must abort the chase or confront approaching riders.
