One might have been forgiven for thinking that Septon Abelar would have been humbled after The Black Tourney and his appearance in front of the tribunal, but it would appear he found the results to be a vindication of his actions, wasting little time getting back to it, denouncing Lady Maegelle for adultery, parading His Holiness, Septon Castos and his mistress naked through the streets of Oldtown, preaching of the creeping doom that has beset the lands of Westeros ever since the accursed King Maegor waged his profane war against The Seven and how only knights and humble warriors with their loyalty to The Seven alone can save the realms from ruin. With his force of personality, there are many whom he sways to his teachings, but he gains enemies aplenty as well, and with the one slippage of temperance at The Rutting Boar he has given them what they need to destroy his reputation, though perhaps not quite how he destroyed Septon Castos.
Restrictions: Septon Abelar, having said his piece, cannot really take part directly, but earlier efforts does affect the outcomes of this event (and indeed, made it become one in the first place).
NPC Participation: Each player may nominate an NPC to be featured. NPC's scripted to partake (Some have been brought into this by PC efforts, others have a direct stake in the outcome and one just hates Abelar for the lynching mob that almost had him trampled to death): Maegelle Cordwayner, Normyn Flowers, Eldon Merryweather, Alicent Yronwood, Gormon Peake, Walgrave Oakheart. NPC's highly likely to have an opinion on the matter to voice or be interested in influencing it: Reynald Florent, Eustace Daverhyl, Marq Durwell, Mya Rivers, Raymun Hightower, Jarmen Mandrake, Thaddeus Rowan, Manfred Lothston, Ambrose Butterwell.
Challenge:
Marking the stance(s) to be agitated for in the dice, roll: Awareness (Empathy) TN 9 Cunning (Logic) TN 9 Persuasion (Various)+chivalry/virtue TN 12 Status (Reputation)+chivalry/virtue TN 12
Twist: -You may accept -1D on the tests and make a Deception (Act) TN 13 test, on a success, you keep your opinion secret and thus no disposition changes applies, a critical failure carries the same consequences as the challenge tests.
Stances: You may label your choice with the indicated letters in the dice roll, but note them fully in the post. You may only take one option per category. The default persuasion technique is convince, if another is listed for your choice of option, use that, in case of multiple stances, other techniques than convince takes precedence (your pick if more than one). Each additional stance adds +3 to the TN's.
Example format for reporting rolls and stances: Turbulent Septon, Awareness TN 15, AE, XD6kY, Result. Z DoS Turbulent Septon, Cunning TN 15, AE, XD6kY, Result. Z DoS Turbulent Septon, Persuasion TN 15, AE, XD6kY, Result. Z DoS Turbulent Septon, Status TN 15, AE, XD6kY, Result. Z DoS Stances used: a. Anyone can make mistakes e. AYE! (They are bastards)
Defending Abelar's slip from his vows: a. Anyone can make mistakes (Only half, round up, of your votes counts). b. Clearly this was a trap constructed by those threatened by the holy truth! He probably didn't even fall into it! (Bluff). Attacking Abelar for his sins: c. He is fallible like everyone else, so are his opinions! d. Remember Septon Castos? Parade the Hypocrite naked through the streets! (Incite, gain 2x DoS in votes for this option, effectively 3x if succeeding on all the tests).
A third of the votes in defense of Abelar are added to the count of his arguments below, while a third of the votes attacking him are added against (round up in both cases).
Maegelle and Normyn are fornicators, Quentin and Denyse are bastards! e. AYE!, votes gained from tests towards this option are tallied as if you had received a +4 assist bonus on your tests from Levalle's having levied this accusation twice, and won both times. f. NAY!
The Faith Militant must be brought back to defend the Faithful and purge the sins from the lands! g. AYE!, votes gained from tests towards this option are tallied as if you had received a +4 assist bonus on your tests from Abelar's speech. h. NAY! Consequences: -Each DoS counts as a vote towards the stance(s) taken. -Succeed on all the challenge tests tests: Your votes counts double. -The narrator interprets what effects the tally will portend for the future. -Critical Failure on any test: your votes are nullified, and -1 influence. -Publicly voicing your opinion may adjust disposition between +2 and -5 with various NPC's feeling strongly about these subjects.
Considerations for Benefits/Drawbacks: Attractive: +1b on the challenge tests. Charismatic: +1 on the challenge tests. Courteous: reduce any disposition losses by 1 (be sure to flag this in your post) Honor-Bound: Triggers, on a failed test, you are compelled not to to engage in such an ugly discussion for the scoring self-serving points. Proud: If present for Septon's Castos walk of shame, this attempt to compel not to take the stance mentioning Castos (can take the weaker variety). If one has been publicly been exposed availing oneself of the pleasures of The Rutting Boar, this attempts to compel not to take the stance that he is fallible (can take the stronger variety). Roll once if both applies. Supreme Arrogance: Should attempt to ignore the effect of the penalty when deciding on number of stances to take. Vindictive: Attempt to compel taking at least one stance seeking to hurt someone that has wronged you, provided one such is available* Zealot (Power): If defending or attacking Abelar's personal qualities, this attempts to compel the strongest stance available. Would attempt to compel "maximum impact" if that was practical to define, it is mentioned for the purpose to offer roleplay guidance.
*Before testing, a PC may consult with the narrator if this applies, you can't hurt Eldon with any of these stances, though one could of course be motivated to take the opposite stance as he if you hate him enough.

It was an old tune by now, but Thaddeus kept playing it all the same. The Septon Abelar had been set loose and after two duels of honour the Cordwayner bastards where being painted more and more black by the minute. It should only be a matter of time now, he had let his own temper and pride gotten the better of him before the melee and acted rashly. It had succeeded but been a too open and too exposed play than his father or liege lord had approve of. Patience. Soon the whole realm, from the Wall to the Arbour would declare the children falseborn, Ser Normyn and Lady Maegelle murderers and Ser Roland would become Lord Roland. With a debt of gratitude to The Tear. Patience. NPC Participation: Lord Yelshire as he is not present, how about our boy Manfred Lothson? Happily reroll if something else should be taken in to account.

The Black Bat of Harrenhaal is not above playing a little politics, he can be found swimming deep into the pool of intrigue most of the time, ready to eat whatever tasty fish that does not see him coming or fails to swim fast enough even if they do. Septon Abelar, however, can be someone else's problem, speak highly of his character and some very powerful people will take issue, speak out against him and you risk getting noted by a Septon who had moved heaven and earth to nearly see Lord Eldon and his house massacred. And The Black Bat has his secrets, some that a highly dedicated man might discover and take burning issue with. And the Cordwayner litter? That can be someone else's problem, too. The Reachmen add enough as it is to that particular quarrel. So what is he to do? Nothing? Sometimes doing nothing is best of all, but this nonsense of the Faith Militant can be safely opposed, not only is it a foolish idea, failing to not be seen opposing it by one's peers can be equally foolish. Sometimes, agreeing with everyone else, or at least, so appear, happens to be the best choice. Awareness, Cunning, Persuasion, Status, H for no Faith Militant: 4d6 17 4d6 9 9d6k5+2 27 9d6k6+2 26BoA+2 on Cunning test. 2+1+4+3=10 DoS, 20 Votes against The Faith Militant

Lord Eldon takes the opportunity when the topic of Septon Abelar is brought up to pile on the crimes at his feet. Lord Tyrell should have hanged him at Highgarden for the riot he started and attempted murder of his own person. A lord! And then the faith went soft on him. And now he is caught out as a fraud, doing the same things as he decries everyone else for. Oh, this is just rich. Strip him naked and tie a rope around his wrists and the other end to a horse, then start riding. Or perhaps purged by fire, holy or otherwise? That this mockery of a holy man is allowed to live is an affront to the natural order of things as ordained by The Seven. Let the hypocrite roast alive as he would roast alive whoever wasn't him doing the same things. Lord Walgrave Oakheart, motivated more by keeping a Dornish whore and Ser Roland the Dornish-lover out of a lordly seat cares less about Lady Maegelle's fidelity than to keep the Reach free of such corruption. He words it more politely of course, knowing that Ser Roland is quick to offer a challenge should he openly call the enchantress of Yronwood for a witch. Lord Gormon Peake, not quite as adept as sensing the sentiment as he ordinary would, nevertheless does leverage his influence and power to a considerable degree in bringing about lords and knights to see the merits of not questioning Lord Quentin's lineage. Besides, what good does it do to indulge the fantasies of a few so disgruntled by Lady Maegelle's sometimes grating personality to believe that she might have been foul on the inside as well? Lord Gormon knows Ser Normyn well, and without a doubt he cannot possibly have slept with his own brother's wife, in that he is far too noble and good. NPC Participation: Lord Jarmen Mandrake
With furrowed brow, Laena watches the arguments flying back and forth. She *itches* to involve herself, to make Lady Maegelle *hurt* for the mere *suspicion* that she ordered Ashara's murder. But she promised Balon she wouldn't act without proof. Oh, she could get away with it. Hiding her involvement would be super easy, barely an inconvenience. But for once, such a betrayal felt wrong. Balon had bought her agreement with a genuine sacrifice. For her. To break the agreement cheapened the sacrifice. Cheapened her. And others did that enough, she wouldn't join their number. She'd considered working around her oath by supporting the septon but opposing the Faith Militant, but that made her feel uncomfortable, too. It seemed she really was going to sit this entire debate out. Still, she kept an eye on the general sentiment of the crowd. If the lunacy of resurrecting the Faith Militant looked to be gaining ground, she'd step in and push it back into the history books where it belonged. But until then, she just sat, and watched, and listened.
Edit: Given Father's ruling on Vindictive, I decided to roll for it, but with a +1B 'non-participation' bonus, as a compromise. AMTS - Vindictive Resist (+1B) - TN13: 5d6k4-1 11 Still failed.
But as she heard more and more notables helping Maegelle *get away with it*, her anger steadily rose, washing away all her promises and good intentions. Maegelle must *suffer*! AMTS - Deception (Act) - TN13: 6d6k4 16 Success AMTS - Awareness (Empathy) -1D - TN9: 5d6k3+1 16 2 DoS Forgot to label stance. AMTS - Awareness (Empathy) -1D - E - TN9: 5d6k3+1 17 2 DoS still (3 with +4 assist) AMTS - Cunning (Logic) -1D - E - TN9: 5d6k3+1 13 1 DoS (2 with +4 assist) AMTS - Persuasion (Convince) + Virtue -1D - E - TN12: 5d6k3+1+7 25 3 DoS (4 with +4 assist) AMTS - Status (Reputation) + Virtue -1D - E - TN12: 7d6k4+1+7 27 4 DoS Votes (Including +4 assist bonus): (3 + 2 + 4 + 4) * 2 = 26 votes for Maegelle and Normyn are fornicators, Quentin and Denyse are bastards! A whisper here, a nudge there, and she carefully and subtly shifts the balance back to where it *should* be. The satisfied feeling of a task well-done sinks into her, cooling her anger. But with the rage gone, a sick, heavy feeling enters her stomach. The echoes of her promise to Balon have barely faded away, and she's *already* broken it. The *one* thing he asked of her! The thing she agreed to to honour the sacrifice he'd made. We're not even married yet, and I'm already repeating history.Without attracting attention, she swiftly leaves the crowd, trying to breathe. For a moment, she considers confessing to Balon. But no. Her own words to him come back to her, 'Secrets are the foundation of any lasting relationship'. How would he feel were he to learn he'd broken their agreement so soon after making it? He'd directly linked their prosperity to his life. How could he *possibly* see her actions, other than as a betrayal? With a heavy heart, she opens up a new mental vault, vast and oppressive, and tosses the memory of her betrayal in there, never to be spoken of. Almost lost within the vast cavern. As she closes it, she names the new vault. 'Secrets from Balon'. After a moment's self-reflection, she decides to be honest with herself at least, and renames it. 'Secrets from Balon #1'.

Lady Alicent claims not to have an opinion, stating that is very improper given how she is to become a Cordwayner to weight in on such a vile accusation. But a lady is quite able to influence men without making it seem as if she takes a position at all. Ser Normyn and Lady Maegelle does not hide their opinions, and why would they? They are very much obliged to throw away the accusations as vile slander and foul insults by petty and ambitious men seeking to throw House Cordwayner into turmoil for their own ends. Mikel had never been interested in politics, and while trying to gain a better understanding of them at the Black Tourney he became disgusted. But he was compelled to voice his opinion on the matters at hand. Especially the one which directly effected his friend Roland. On the matter of House Cordwayner Mikel first brings up the trial by combat which concerned the matter at the Black Tourney. If the matter was settled then why should it be brought up again? The law is not a consideration one may decide to abide when one chooses. The matter was already settled and to have it brought up again for what - another trial? Why bother if they are so meaningless. Nothing which has become common talk since it supports any other outcome either.
[OOC: Changes made. Thank you for the help! It looks like I did put ''incite'' in there which is an error, though it is clearly marked for E and Mikel has no B in incite, so it gave no advantage and I counted vote/DoS as normal. Though, I can strike and roll again if need be.]

Lord Reynald Florent thinks it best to maintain a low profile as he always does, opting to do as Lord Lothston and take the stance everyone would be likely to agree on anyway. Besides the return of The Faith Militant would be an extremely bad idea. Lady Ysilla considered joining her voice to the choir demanding a naked parade. Except, it is Lord Piggy who said it, and if anyone deserved such, it was him. Except, no, the image of Lord Eldon naked...ugh! Just trying to imagine the mean septon naked is bad enough. Septon Abelar is definitely mean though, which means that what he wants is not what Ysilla wants. Probably not, who cares? The septon would likely not support her in that women can be knights, too, so she won't support him. Whatever, the septon is mean, now it's said, let's go find a bully to prank. Lord Jarmen Mandrake takes the unpopular position of defending Septon Abelar, one fall from grace does not invalidate his opinions, which mostly are correct. The greatest tragedy since House Hoare was that the peace between The Faith and The Dragons ended with The Faith being turned from a proud guard or hunting dog, man's best friend and staunchest protector and companion, to that of some little lady's adorable puppy. Trystane does not hesitate to support his friend, Ser Roland Cordwayner, denouncing his sister-in-law and Ser Normyn, though he couches it in the language of 'logic' and 'what the evidence suggests'. His air of civility only barely masks his true contempt though. He had thought they were smug, sly shits from the moment he saw them anyway, and each tale he had heard tell of them since had convinced him that they were the rot at the heart of House Cordwayner. However, the attaching of this Faith Militant talk to the proceedings felt at best like muddying the waters, and at worst an ill-advised political move. It detracted from the case at hand, as far as he was concerned. So he cautions those speaking on it against equating faith with honour. Many terrible things have been done in the name of the Gods, after all. It would be unwise to risk repeating them.

Aerion listens to the various speakers, shocked that its expected to have a civil discussion on such a wide array of topics with even larger number of participants. Still, when asked on his views, Aerion begins slowly, confirming that indeed Maegelle and Normyn are fornicators and House should beg for the guiding hand of the righteous Ser Rolland, but by the end of it all he's quite fired up about the utter lack of sincerity in the vows many men have taken and subsequently failed to uphold.
"It is well past time that men be held to their words and actions. I urge all men of knightly virtue to hold true to their course and their vows, to become paragons of light in the coming dark days!"
"For too long has the shadow of evil men been cast freely over this land. It cannot be allowed to continue. I ask that such men that can say they are a true knight of the Light to join me in providing a better example, a new order of men bound by their faith and their ideals. Join me, and we will drag the evil men out of the shadows to face the justice they deserve!"
He turns and holds the eye contact of several men intensely, "You have spoken the words of your vows in front of the gods. You have been Chosen. There is conflict on the horizon. Do not allow evil to win out the day! Join me, and we will put an end to the injustices we all rightly decry!"
