While not quite as impressive as what could be found at Gardenton a few moons ago, there is still a great throng of people having arrived to Lordsview, many to watch the joust and melee, but more to sell their goods and produce where there are so many buyers to be found. Hawkers clamor for attention with minstrels and troupes of mummers hoping for donations or patronage.
Restrictions: One must first declare one's presence here: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/1015/phase-2-whitewalls-tourney-event
NPC Participations Each player (whether partaking or not) may nominate an NPC they would like to see featured in this event.
Enjoying the Sights
One may certainly find entertainment suitable to one's tastes to have the entire afternoon suddenly have slipped away.
Interact with the commons
You may opt for one of the following:
Moving the Masses: -Simple Intrigue against a crowd, define crowd size, technique and objective in dice description. TN 15: Around a dozen TN 18: Scores TN 21: Hundreds. DoS, size of crowd and narrator creativity/energy determines outcomes.
Give out alms to the poor: -By handing out bread (you get dozens per SS, so negligible costs), you get to feel good (maybe) and look good to your peers. +1 Disposition with three semi-random NPC's from the Reach.
An Ear to the ground -You may be one of the few who cares to ask the smallfolk about what's on their minds, although speaking with the travelling mummers and minstrels are likely to give more interesting gossip (mark which option you go for): Knowledge (Streetwise) TN 9, each DoS typically grants 1 random rumor, with a preference for Riverlands going ons. Asking for specific things is TN 12 (15 if asking the smallfolk).
Extend Patronage: -You may hire performers to sing your praises (or shame others). Simple Intrigue (Bargain) TN 9 (or 3*Status of target to be shamed), you can hire them to praise another character, the basic price is your (target's) status in GD, reduced by 1 per additional DoS (minimum 1 GD), on a simple failure they will do the job, but demand double the pay. On a critical Failure (or refusing to pay their price) they find your penny-pinching ways displeasing and makes up a performance shaming you instead: -1 influence. -Character praised: Likely to receive favorable treatment in the selection of jousting opponents, more likely for rivalry to be triggered for their favor. -Character shamed: Likely to receive tougher jousting opponents, less likely for rivalry to be triggered for their favor. The attention offered may have other effects.
Temptations of the Flesh
With a Simple Intrigue (Seduction) TN 9, you may always find someone willing to share your bed for warmth, but if you want something more:
The Rutting Boar offers it's services for the discerning customer with coin to spend:
A Golden Dragon buys you the best night you ever had, only the most vivid of imaginations might conceive of sins not on offer: -Gain +1b to all tests in a single Whitewalls Event (The first scene in the melee or a single match in the joust, must be the first of that day). -This involves going into the back rooms.
Carouse with the discerning clientele. No prudish knight or lady would ever dare to even set foot in this house of ill repute, though the common room is merely a place where they might lounge lazily on cushioned seats while enjoying the best wines of the Riverlands (Arbor Vintage are of course available, but few Reachmen finds that exotic) and all sorts of decadent foods. Of course, the attire of the serving girls would inflict scandal without end upon a lady caught trying one out, and they are ever so eager to hint at such pleasures as might be offered in the back. -Simple Intrigue (Charm or Seduce) TN 9, gain +1 Disposition with a random NPC guest per DoS scored. Using Seduction is probably ill advised, but likely to be interesting.
-Being seen going into the back rooms of the Rutting Boar (or otherwise give in to temptation) carries a stigma and requires a deception (Disguise) or Stealth (Any) TN 13, on a simple failure, word of your visit will circulate (enters the rumor list), on a critical failure, your activites becomes public knowledge and you suffer -1 Virtue (-1 Chivalry if found to commit sin with a noble lady, only applies if she fails).
Gambling: The stakes to be played are either 20, 50, 100 or 210SS (1GD), you may win up to 3000SS (total, not net), you can keep loosing until you run out of coin.
You can partake in games of chance, roll 1d6, upon achieving 3-4, you break even, upon 5 or 6 you make a profit equal to your stake, else you loose your bet. Special: Characters with the lucky benefit rolls 2d6k1.
You can also partake in games of skill, making any combination of the following tests (gain +1b on each test for every two that you undertake): Awareness(Empathy) TN 12 Deception(Bluff) TN 12 Cunning(Logic) TN 12 Persuasion (Seduce) TN 12 - though expect interesting consequences for opting to distract opponents in such fashion. Take the average DoS across all tests (round down) as your result, mark the dice rolls with how many tests are taken. Your profits are equal to the DoS. A critical failure counts as -2 DoS.
Special: You may also attempt Deception(Cheat) against TN 12, on a success you may instead round your average DoS up, failure makes makes you loose your bet, critical failure gets you caught. This does not count towards gaining bonus dice to the tests.
The Wages of Sin You may do one of the following:
Stalk the common room of The Rutting Boar Optional Deception(Disguise) TN 13, success grants anonymity, there isn't too much point if you're carousing here anyway. Awareness (Notice) TN 12, each DoS grants you a random chance at catching someone in the act of entering the back.
Or
Knowledge (Streetwise) TN 12, each DoS yields up one of the rumors about activity a noble best should avoid.
There will be enough random NPC's doing this that not-so-discrete PC's should be reasonably safe (but rumors about PC's will go into the list of random rumors that anyone might stumble upon)
Special: Post a notification in your private forum if you gain the bonus to other events from temptation or successfully employ singers to praise/shame you (or another). You should await confirmation before using the bonus in another event. Thus this event needs not be immediately resolved.
Benefits/Drawbacks considerations: Attractive (female): You may do simple intrigue (Charm) TN 12 to make performers sing to your beauty for free (counts as a praise result). Decadent: Triggers, on a failure, you feel compelled to pay The Rutting Boar a visit. Lascivious: If you visit The Rutting Boar, this triggers, on a failure, you feel compelled to enjoy the pleasures of the back rooms. Prejudiced (Dornish): If you visit The Rutting Boar, it just so happens that one of the girls there have black hair and olive skin to trigger the drawback (failure should be amusing) Prejudiced (Sinners): If you visit The Rutting Boar, this triggers hard. (failure should be hilarious). Zealot: Triggers, on a failed test you are compelled to interact with the commons to pursue your goals.

People are defined by what they lack as much as what they have. What they aren't as much as what they are. Laena lacks equilibrium. She was a dragon. Being on the wing was natural to her, but she had had a constant stream of letters to and from Ashara and Aerion keeping her tied to the ground, in a good way. There were things she couldn't discuss with one or other of them for one reason or another. And now Ashara was dead, and Laena was lost in clouds. She still had Ashara's last letter to her, received post-mortem, still unopened. Because once she read it, that was it. Until that time, some part of Ashara was still with her. Still in her future. But once she read it, every part of Ashara was in her past, and she just wasn't ready for that still. She didn't know if she'd ever be. She could *care* about people - she cared about Lady Ysilla, for example, or Lord Bryce - but they didn't really *matter*. Ashara mattered. And now she was gone. So Laena did what Laena always does when she feels life spinning out of control: she indulges herself. Lacking funds, she gambles, using every trick she knows to win, getting her male opponents all hot and bothered in the process. Though she spends a good chunk of her winnings ensuring the losers don't begrudge her too much, and have targets other than her to slake their lust on. She chats with travelling minstrels, learning their news; and with nobles, improving their views. Before finally discreetly making her way to the back rooms to see to her own needs, learning everything she can from the expertise on display, as well as forgetting Ashara, and even her own name, for a while. Always only for a while.

Trystane started off his participation in the fair with an act of charity. It was a small thing, but his soul felt better for it. An act the Gods would surely approve of. His piety did not hold up very well once he learned about The Rutting Boar though. The way it was described to him left no doubt that he needed to go, and though he told himself he'd just go for a few drinks and behave himself, he knew it was a lie. Encountering a few friends in the common room distracted him a while, and making some new ones, not even minding the money he was losing to them at cyvasse and draughts. He amused himself by flirting with some of his fellow players, to try and gain advantage, though some of the flirting with a certain lady and pair of handsome knights was genuine. He had heard a few were amenable to the company of men, but sounding them out to be sure before making an advance was a slow and delicate business. The handy thing with such a setting was that he could brush off any rebuffs with a profuse apology and the excuse of being a bit drunk and so not meaning it like that at all, avoiding causing serious offence. How he wished for a favourable response though. Whores were all well and good, but he liked a real chase too much to rely on paid company. Laena's words returned to him about being careful with the Reach folk, due to the rampant anti-Dornish sentiment, and though he was quite sure that anyone sufficiently anti-Dornish would simply avoid him altogether, he had to admit he couldn't be sure that the people he was making merry with and making surreptitious eyes at were actually amiable towards him. And so he bade his gambling and drinking companions a good day, and made what he thought were subtle enquiries about the backrooms to a delightfully buxom girl in red silks. While he was not as subtle as he thought when slinking off into the backrooms themselves, the nature of his activities there were kept discreet. Lordsview was truly splendid. While nowhere near as grand as Gardenton, the town was full of pageantry the likes of which haven't been seen since the Black Tourney. As Addam processed down the streets with the rest of the knights, he spied mummer seeking patronage from the knights enrolling in the tourney. Tossing the man a couple of dragons, "Now go and tell the people that the Hero of the Rosewood has come to win the tourney and Lady Delia Hewett's heart." After enrolling his name in the tourney, Addam made his way to the Rutting Boar to meet up with a few friends. While he was tempted to follow one of the girls to the back, he decided it would be best to stay in the lounge and mingle with the with the other lords as he rolled some dice.

It felt good to be back in Whitewalls. Mikel took his time exploring the city, visiting the sights of memories and seeing what was new. He took his time to speak with the small folk and hear about the things which they were concerned about. Mikel spoke frankly with them, confirming fears or offering his assurances against them as was relevant. All that walking and talking had him ending up in front of the Rutting Boar, a place where dreams came true. Mikel had enjoyed the establishes services before and was more excited than a man of chivalry should have been to be walking in so that he could experience them again. I work hard to excel at arms. They work hard to excel at pleasure. When you want something done, find a professional. There wasn't a single bone of shame in him as he entered and enjoyed the comforts of the lounge before moving to the back for private comforts.

In addition to going to the various alehouses and taverns earning friends the old fashion way through drink and tall-tales, he approached a group of mummers and minstrels about doing some work for him. After some negotiation and an exchange of coin they agreed to spread the tale of Balon the Bold, hero of the Rosewood, and rescuer of maidens fair. How long the facade held up was anyone's guess. While drinking at one establishment Balon heard of the Rutting Boar, a famous place of exquisite pleasures. As he was no longer beholden to Laena he felt compelled to visit. He'd frequented the Perfumed Lady while at Highgarden but it was solely to fuck Lady Jeyne, never to sample the prostitutes. At the Rutting Boar he chose two women, one a raven haired beauty with large breasts who reminded him of Daena Roxton. The other a woman with dyed out hair that made her look of Valyrian ancestry. Her frame was similar to Laena and since he couldn't have her he might as well have an approximation of her. Balon thought he was being discreet going to the back room but his voice carried and what he told the whores he wanted them to do to him would make even the most foul and depraved blush. After he'd finished his three way he went into the Rutting Boar's common room and tried to calm himself, the memory of fucking Laena coming back to him. The look on his face attracted attention as he found himself chatting and laughing with several other patrons, listening to and spreading gossip. Balon never saw anyone slip into the back rooms, his conversations and mental imagery taking up all of his attention.

Roland followed Addam's example in throwing coins to the singers and minstrels, but given the gap in social standing it took more coins for him to earn similar attention. The thought of tossing coins to down on their luck commoners never even occurred to him. Disgusting rabble should know their place rather than pawing at my cloak. The tragedy at Summerhall repeating on him after an evening with old friends. Unskilled in subterfuge, and seeing little point to it anyway, he made no secret of his visit to the Rutting Boar. Mayhap the whole matter would have been a rumour had that been the end of it. But even discreet courtesans will repeat the tale of one of the Reach's most chivalrous knights entering a brothel, picking out the darkest haired, longest limbed Dornish woman, drunkenly calling her Ashara and asking her to wear a septa's garments. The smallfolk may well be disgusting, but nobility can be downright perverted. Wrapped up as he was in working out his own issues, Roland failed to replicate his success as a makeshift inquisitor at Highgarden. He did not care, not even for a minute. Mayhap he should have, for such rumours may have held the key to the justice he professed to seek. Lordsview would prove itself full of amble opportunity for a knight to lose his way, the Butter Lords of the Milkhouse had grown fat over the years, the scraps of their table making the merchants and flesh-peddlers of Lordsview grow bold and greedy. Titus did not seek out such distractions. Ser Ambrose, Hand of the King, might have sullied the kingdom with his cattle merchant ways but a knight of the Reach should hold himself to higher standards. A tourney of such vastness however brought opportunity for him and his kin, coming across a talented Riverlander, expert with the harp in hand. Titus purchases his favour in praising the virtue and beauty of his sister, Delia. Not that the girl needed a boost in confidence nor her brother to defend her, but Titus did not wish the recent rumours regarding their mother, nor his families exile from Gyldenhaal to effect his sweet sisters marriage opportunities.

NPC ParticipationI'd like to meet Ser Ambrose Butterwell, not necessarily because he's Hand, but because he's a powerful lord out on the town. This seems like a good event to flesh out such an important NPC on his home turf. Interact with the CommonsIt wasn't often that Ser Daeron spoke to the unwashed masses, but a tourney was the perfect foil for showing the contrast between the true knights in attendance and the King's utter lack of chivalrous understanding at Summerhall. Despite his disdain for the smallfolk, he permitted himself to lift some of their words that he had heard uttered in the Reach. "..What king would allow their noble traditions, such as trial by combat, to be sullied by such blackguards? Perhaps it was because he wished to see Ser Daemon embarrassed against Rennifer Horsebane. King Daeron the Good they say? King Daeron the fool I say, in his obsession with being everything his father was not, he has pushed Ser Daemon Blackfyre away. If only he had embraced the man like a true brother, all the realm's wounds would be healed..."
As he spoke and the crowd grew in size, he made sure that he wasn't inciting the crowd to violence. He had learned from Abelar's arrogance. Instead he focused on winning the hearts and minds of the people through his step-by-step denunciation of the King's actions, or lack thereof, and contrasting it with the willingness of Ser Daemon to uphold his knightly vows regardless of the danger to his person. Abelar arrives in Lordsview, full of brimstone and reinvigorated by his second victory at trial. The Seven want me to preach and by the Gods, I will . . . but maybe I should scope out the situation first, or--a murder of crows takes flight before him, interrupting his thoughts. "Brothers and sisters, the Seven are angry!""Dishonorable knights serve dishonorable lords!" By now, word of Rennifer's foul victory over Ser Daemon has spread far and wide. "They spit on the traditions of our ancestors!""There was a time when the church stood against such men, but alas, they were undone by dragonfire!""But there are no dragons now, the true fire is in each of your hearts, if you are willing to harness it!""Up the Poor Fellows! When night falls, Abelar is done preaching. But the work of the Seven is never-ending. Stories tell of a raucous establishment called the Rutting Boar. They say it's tucked away just far enough to avoid encroaching on polite society, but is still near enough to be available to the discreet sinner. Like a lantern clutched by the helmsman of a hell-bound ferry, the Boar's windows glow in the twilight with the blurry silhouettes of carnal temptation. Septon Abelar stalks forward, steeling himself for what must come next. His instinct is to unleash condemnation on sight, but wisdom counsels against such a plan. Suggested NPC Participation: Lord Damon Lannister
Alms to the Poor: As the son of a high lord Parmen and House Redwyne had always donated for the poor as was expected of most noble families. That had always been undertaken from a distance, maintaining a respectable space between the nobles and the peasants. At House Levalle, under the guidance of Master Malyk, things were done a little differently.
Malyk had made plans to donate bread and small coins to widows, orphans and the disabled in the community. He had recruited Alys and Ellyn to assist him in his efforts, who had in turn recruited Parmen. Parmen was initially frustrated at the loss of what could have been a day spent finalizing preparations, meeting with old friends or exploring the town. Instead he was spending it with the hordes of unwashed small folk. To his surprise, he found himself actually enjoying the days activity. After months of frustration of watching a war approaching and being unable to do anything to prevent it, it was pleasant to be faced with problems that he could actually deal with, even if only for a day. The look on a child's face when the Alys handed him a full loaf of bread was something that Parmen found shockingly rewarding. He and Alys might need to talk about making this a more regular occurrence when they returned to Highever.
+1 Disposition with 3 NPCs
Parmen was in such a fine mood after his day of charity that he completely forgot about the opportunity to spend the evening at the Rutting Boar, a fine local establishment.
