Mikel had been in a frustrated hustle all morning. He had heard that Ser Roland of the Companions had been killed in a duel and while he did not believe it he took pains to track down the source and to hear what was being said first hand. Nearly half a dozen had recently returned from Old Town when the Tribunal was underway and each told a story which supported the others and no matter who much he wished not to believe it, there was no reason not to. They further informed Mikel that Roland's remains would be on their way to Kingsbridge for a vigil. Without delay Mikel summoned Harold and the two put together a list of all that they would need on for their traveling. Once made Harold set off to see the list fulfilled while Mikel ensured that his presence would not be missed and began making his way to help with preparations.
As was the case when something had Mikel utterly consumed he moved quickly, more like to move through somebody then around them. Most gave way but coming around a corner Mikel ran into a young man, Ser Trystane Sand, still somewhat new to Starkwood lands. After their collision Mikel lost his train of thought and came back to the moment, his hands coming up to help steady Ser Trystane. "My apologies Ser, I am not typically such a distracted... bull." It seemed fitting. "I received poor news today and am preparing for travel by morning." Drawing in a deep breath, Mikel let it out slowly. "But that is no excuse. Again, my apologies Ser."

Trystane gave Mikel an understanding smile and hand-waved the apology.
"Quite alright, Ser. I too was not looking where I was going. Took it upon myself to explore and got a little lost. I am sorry to hear you have had some bad news. Nothing fatal, I hope," he added optimistically, but immediately realised his faux pas when he saw Mikel's reaction.
"Ah... I have put my foot in it, haven't I," Trystane said, looking very embarrassed.

At Trystane's first sentence the polite demeanor and courteous expression fell from Mikel's face and he stared coldly at Trystance. Then with his second sentence, Mikel realized two things in a single second; Trystane had not been making light of his friends death and he couldn't have even aware of it. There was a good chance he had never even heard of Roland. "No offense taken, Ser. Ser Roland Cordwayner of Kingsbridge was killed in a duel in Oldtown. I counted Ser Roland a friend, and it would not be an exaggeration to say he was a better representative of Knighthood and chivalry then the majority of men who have sworn their oaths and claimed to commit their lives to the discipline of their practice. I had only met him at the Black Tourney but we were fast friends. His body is being taken to Kingsbridge for a service and I hope to make it in time, hence my haste."
Mikel took in a deep breath and released it slowly. "But I won't be leaving until tomorrow and we have not had a chance to speak yet, have we?"

Trystane lowered his head in genuine contrition.
"I am so sorry for my misstep, Ser. I had no idea you were grieving a friend. He sounds like he was a paragon of knightly virtue. May I be of assistance in your preparations? Allow me to redeem myself."

"There is nothing to forgive, Ser. My squire Harold is out now securing our needs for the road and then we will spend the evening ensuring our arms and armor are prepared for the journey and the vigil. If I have any concerns it would be the traveling itself, while it is likely to go well nothing is guaranteed on the road. Certainly not in such times as these."
"May I ask how familiar you are with the current state of the Reach, Ser?"

"Not as familiar as I should be, I confess. How about I and my squire accompany you to your vigil, and perhaps you can give this ignorant foreigner the details he should know?"

After a moments consideration Mikel nods. "I would be happy to have you come along. But I feel I should warn you first, without going to far into the state of the Reach as it now stands, you are aware of how many of the Reach feel about the Dornish? I only say this to warn you that you may encounter anything from discourteous looks to outright violence simply for your look and birth. I do not mean to dissuade you, as I said I would be happy for your company, but if you want to reconsider your offer I will not be offended."

"I understand. I may have only arrived recently, but I have seen a little of what you describe. Thankfully no outright violence as yet, but I know how some people feel about my kind. I do not fear them, though I am not out to antagonise them either. I can assure you, I would make every effort to avoid making trouble."

Mikel nods, approving of Trystanes words. "Then I would suggest we ride armed and armored, with our squires and a pair of spare horse to carry supplies - not that we will need much. I will tell you all i can of the Black Tourney and of those I had met there. If you are willing I would enjoy hearing about Sunspear once I end my tale."
"I will arrange for our supplies, amd the spare mounts, if you and your squire wish to focus on your personal things."
