On Lord Alliser's cue, Ser Robyn steps forward for Laena, Ser Manfryd also steps forward, no doubt to signal Lord Durwell's interest, Ser Jasper Flowers also volunteers for Laena. For Lady Johanna, Lord Eldon volunteers Ser Norren Wythers his one-eyed blackguard, and Ser Normyn Flowers steps up as well, no doubt seeking to get back at the Levalle's. Robyn for Laena: 4d6+12 32 5d6+12 28 6 DoS Norren for Johanna: 4d6+13 26 4d6+13 27 4 DoS Jasper for Laena: 6d6k4+9 27 6d6k5+9 26 4 DoS Normyn for Johanna: 7d6k5+13 39 6d6k5+13 23 6 DoS Manfryd for Laena: 2#5d6k4+17 34 30 7 DoS

Laena considers the implications of her choice, pleased at how many options she has. Quite a few made quite strong showings, but her mind points her at her brother, Ser Daeron. Not for her champion, no, but according to rumour he has quite the temper, and in the joust, he was unhorsed by a strong breeze. Weaker on horseback, and, as far as she could tell, largely similar on foot to Ser Normyn, he would hopefully make an easier opponent than Ser Normyn.
So, when assessing her candidates, she makes sure to give a brief smirk when looking at Ser Daeron, before passing her gaze along, while making a mental note to apologise to him before the dual, and explain she was smirking at the mental image of him punching that vile dwarf. For now, however, it should be enough to prick his pride enough for him to offer his sword to Lady Johanna, and hopefully he could compel her to choose him over Ser Normyn.
Now, as for her champion, she needed someone both talented and committed. All the talent in the world wouldn't do if they would give up at the first scratch. She considered Ser Roland, but she didn't want to be seen as encouraging even the possibility of kinslaying, and should Lady Johanna choose Daeron, she'd be best served by a champion practical enough to run him down from horseback should he gain the advantage there, which Roland clearly wasn't. Balon? He'd be willing, sure, but for all his confidence, she didn't have faith that he held a clear advantage over Ser Normyn. Robyn would encourage Ser Normyn to push extra hard to be champion, for a rematch, and she doubted he'd be caught out by the same trick twice. She was surprised Ser Jasper offered - they'd never spoken, to her memory, but he didn't make a particularly impressive showing anyway. While she appreciated Mikel's offer, a Great Bastard could do better than a commoner-born knight for her champion. Symon made a worse showing than Jasper, and she wouldn't trust him with her life anyway. Aerion was a possibility - he'd have the dedication, but she just didn't rate his chances against Ser Normyn as being that great. And Imry she didn't trust at all.
So, Ser Manfryd Grimm it was. Dangerous in the joust and truly formidable in the melee, he definitely had the talent, and given how his Lord's interests aligned with her own, he could be trusted to give his all.
"Ser Manfryd Grimm. I thank you for your offer, and ask you serve as my champion to see justice done on this matter. My thanks also to the rest of you for your offer to help a lady in need. It was not an easy decision with the quality on offer, and my heart warms that, even in these troubled times, a lady may rely on the gallantry of the Reach."

In his opinion, he made a better argument as to why he should serve as Lady Laena's champion and he came from a better pedigree, but even Daeron couldn't argue with the fact that Ser Manfryd was a solid pick. At least if he was a level-headed and calm knight.
Instead he felt slighted that his own sister didn't chose him as her champion, and immediately turned around to offer his sword to Lady Johanna, perhaps not a great sign of his devotion to her cause, but vindication could be just as motivating. Ser Manfryd was formidable but he was no Blackfyre.
-1 Disposition towards Laena (which should still be positive)

A little late, but not effecting anything Will I offer my sword to Johanna?: 4d6k3 13 Pass
It seems Lady Johanna was truly guilty of what those rumors had suggested, but trial by combat was her right and she was a member of the cause. Addam stepped forward to order his sword to the lady, but just as quickly stepping down as he thought back to his conversation with Roland earlier this morning.

Lady Johanna is dismayed by Lady Laena's choice of champion, she had hoped for Ser Aerion or Ser Symon, they were of the same blood after all. Lord Marq's man was a problem, but by her judgement, she had nothing to lose. And Ser Daeron had shown a tenacity that could prove invaluable, Ser Normyn was perhaps more skillful, but he had proven himself to be of questionable will to see things true, he had quit the melee early, and yielded to Ser Robyn sooner than he could. The Wildfyre always fought like a man with nothing left to lose, in the end, this made the choice of Ser Daeron an easy one.
Johanna is neutral if that wasn't clear.
Daeron can go ahead and set up a thread for the combat, with [Aftermath] as timestamp.

Roland nodded in relief at Laena's choice, sharing the cultural taboo against raising a hand against a kinsman given the risk that he would be facing his bastard brother. He was confident in his own prowess, even though he and her champion were well matched.
"Seven guide your hands and bring us justice," he offered to Ser Manfryd.
Lady Johanna's choice was as great a surprise to him as Ser Daeron offering his services - he did not doubt his companion's mettle, but it spoke more of pride than conviction in a cause to switch sides. And it spoke of desperation on Lady Johanna's part to do such a thing.
"I will stand as your second as you lack for a squire, but it is ill done to champion a woman you would have stood against but moments before. You raise your hand against your sister's cause - you do not see my sword volunteered to Lady Johanna or even a man of Balon's dubious worth making such a maneuver. Worse still, should you yield or slip men will claim this as some plot you cooked up between siblings. I know I cannot dissuade you from this course, but I would see your honour protected. Fight hard, even if men will rightly query the circumstance. All being well, the Seven's justice will be prevailed, but it would be a cruel thing if the Seven punished your pride on a matter that should solely be a question of Lady Johanna's innocence."
No great theologian, Roland attempted to reconcile his faith with Daeron's wounded pride.

Daeron gave Roland a sideways look. The man was trying to be a graceful and independent voice between the two sides, but at the moment he was more irritating than inspiring.
“Thank you Ser for your faith in me.” he responded dryly.
With less snark he followed up. “As I recover, perhaps we could collaborate on a strategy as we have in the past.”

"I am in your debt on that account, we shall speak anon. There can be honour even in defeat against a man of Ser Manfryd's prowess, should it come to that. I do not believe you will quit the field so readily as my half brother."
