One of the lessons of the Black Tourney is that time is running out, a man has to build alliances before he needs them, to introduce heirs into this world before he passes from it. He might need alliances very soon, and a young age offers scant protection from the stranger's embrace these days. And everyone appears to know so, with the result that they are all about to act now. A knight of some renown could live well travelling from wedding to wedding the coming year. A knight of some skill could grow very rich from all the tourneys sure to be hosted.
Challenge:
Characters may seek out prospective marriage partners, this might amount to courtship or putting out feelers or any number of variants.
Publicly being known as a Fire/Blood supporter grants a bonus equal to twice your total number of achieved points when dealing with those of the same faction (a minimum of 2, it applies as a penalty when dealing with those of the opposed faction), if the Almanac does not note you as such, you may immediately make a public rumor action (where you add your status) to make it so (if you already took a rumor action this day, this new one cannot gain fire/blood DoS, but it will mark you as a member of this faction. If you added your status to the rumor action taken, that is sufficient provided you made the TN to get the rumor out).
Status (Reputation)+Chivalry/Virtue+Spendable points of glory won (spent glory counts) vs passive Status(reputation) of character sought.
Success allows wooing, if the result is also a success against the head of house, an inquiry can be made. If the character sought happens to also be the head of house, then the question of both wooing and inquiry is resolved against the same TN. Gain +2 for Wooing and Inquiry tests per additional DoS (tallied separately against their respective TN's)
Wooing: Simple Intrigue (Charm or seduce)+Chivalry/virtue against Intrigue Defense (Head of House/Heir applies)
-Improve disposition by 1 step per 2 DoS on persuasion (does not apply if it already is different from the default)
Inquiry: Simple Intrigue (convince)+Chivalry/virtue against Intrigue Defense (Head of House/Heir/Regent applies)
The disposition towards you is added as a modifier on all tests (can be different from head of house and character sought, so make a note of what you think it is and it will be compared with narrator records). You do not gain any bonus from your disposition on the simple intrigue.
The +1D bonus won from previous charm intrigue comes into play (on both tests if inquiry and wooing is against same character).
You may test for up to three characters without penalty. Each attempt after this comes at a cumulative -3 on status tests.
If you succeed on the status test in order to woo, modify your status result for inquiry by +3 for each step above "Maybe" received on the wooing answer. (Roll everything at once, static modifiers can be added/subtracted as needed).
Consequences:
Both wooing and inquiry will grant one of the following answers (the head of house and the character sought may have different ideas, if they are the same, you get two answers, one political and one personal):
YES!, The character would very much like to begin negotiations for a betrothal.
Yes, the character is very much be open to the idea.
Maybe, the character is open to consider the idea.
No, the character is reluctant to consider the idea.
NO! The character will not consider the idea, probably never.
The matter may be pursued in the off-season, generally the inquiry answer must be "Maybe" or better and the wooing answer be "No" or better for there to be any hope.
-3 or more DoS on the persuasion test typically improves the answer by one step.
-A simple failure on the persuasion test typically worsens the answer by one step.
-A critical failure on the persuasion test typical worsens the answer by two steps, and disposition by two steps.
-For each critical failure on a status test beyond the first: -1 Influence.
Using seduction may result in the opportunity to engage in carnal pleasures (DoS may matter in order to trigger this), this will typically improve the answer on wooing by one step. The event mechanics may also be used to try and get laid without any thoughts of marriage. Carnal pleasures may have consequences of their own.
Special:
-Automatic success on a status test counts as a 2 DoS success or the rolled result, whichever is higher.
-You may spend a point of influence or glory to automatically succeed on the status test.
-You may spend a Destiny Point to automatically succeed on the status tests, affect all tests regarding the person sought equally as if modified by a spent point, and improve woo and inquiry answers by one step.
-You may burn a Destiny Point to automatically succeed on the status tests with a 4 DoS, affect all tests regarding the person sought as if modified by a burnt point, and improve woo and inquiry answers by two steps. This means that a burnt Destiny Point may entail the ruination of marriage agreements as the default inquiry answer of "NO!" is turned into a "Maybe", or given what a burnt DP used on the persuasion tests can do, quite possibly a "Yes" answer. (Though a marriage agreement implies that another has received a "YES!" answer, meaning that the battle is very much on).
-It is possible to make inquiries on behalf of others, but wooing can only be done in person, success on the inquiry with an answer of maybe or better will result in an automatic success on the status test for wooing by the one being tested for. It is the disposition and fire/blood scores of the person tested for that matters on the persuasion test made.
-Great Bastards can generally decide for themselves, so an inquiry can be made directly to them AND the head of house.
-Lord Eldon will make an inquiry on Titus' behalf to Lord Marq for Lady Daena's hand.
-Lord Eldon's passive Status (Reputation) is treated as 9 for this event (His TN against seduction is also 9, 0 if the girl is attractive).
-Addam and Balon may succeed automatically on status tests to make an inquiry to Lord Reynald Florent.
-Addam may succeed automatically on status tests to make an inquiry to Lord Rowan
-Balon may succeed automatically on status tests to make an inquiry to Lord Peake
-Daeron may succeed automatically on status tests to make an inquiry to Lord Cuy
-Alliser may succeed automatically on status tests to make an inquiry to Lord Florent
-House Levalle may succeed automatically on status tests to make an inquiry to Lord Cuy
Benefits/Drawbacks
-Great Bastard: Gain +1D on the status test.
-Sponsor: The sponsor can make inquiry tests for you, though as sponsors may make their own inquiries, it is possible that the requests made by you incurs penalties.
-Charismatic: Gain +1 on persuasion tests.
-Blood of Valyria: Gain +1 on status tests.
-Attractive: Gain +1D on all tests.
-Lascivious: Triggers if you attempt to not use seduction when given the opportunity to woo someone of your relevant target group, failure means that you give in to your desires if they are willing (failure means you must make seduction against all who are relevant, but if more than one is willing, it is optional whether to give in to more than one).
-Dependents: -1D on all tests (does not apply for whether an opportunity for carnal pleasures arises), typically worsens the default answers by one step.
-Supreme Arrogance: Penalty applies on Persuasion tests.
