Mikel would have ridden him down if Ser Erryk had done as he said. But unfortunately he had not, and Mikel could not risk his horse if he hoped to escape. "Perhaps we will meet again one day." With that Mikel backed his horse until he neared Harold and together they turned and rode into the mists.

As Mikel rode away, Erryk moved to his stricken mount, raising his axe to make a swift end to things before kneeling down to strokes the beast's mane, even though the life had left its eyes.
The hedge knight's pragmatism was typical of his sort and had won him an escape route, but Ser Erryk would not forget Mikel.
