With one trial over, Lord Tyrell makes his way through one of the doors behind the Oakenseat and sends a page for Ser Roland and another for Lord Ilyn that he would like a word with them.

Roland attended promptly, not sparing a moment if his lord's lord needed him.
He was a small piece in the game of thrones, and it was oft dangerous to attract the attention of great lords.
But he was a knight, and brave enough to face danger whether it be on the battlefield or court intrigue.
[OOC: Lord Tyrell is Friendly towards Roland from previous events (+5) in case that helps me at all in whatever comes next...]

Roland is led to some sort of office, probably not the one Lord Leo prefers to use, but it's location next door to the Great Hall is convenient. The Longthorn seems to have aged ten years in ten days, weary and tired as he looks over a document, then stamps it with his seal. "Ser Roland!" he stands up to greet his guest, handing the document to a servant that rolls it up and seals it again. "Thank you for helping to save my cousin and little Simon from that madness, and congratulations on almost winning the joust." He might have more to say, but Lord Cordwayner is shown in as well. Lord Leo motions for them to sit and a servant offers wine, probably the best the Arbor has to offer. Lord Leo accepts only half a cup. "I suspect this might be just about the only thing of this day that will bring me any enjoyment" he mutters to himself before straightening his back and speaks more gravely. "Lady Alicent indicated that Ser Roland might be asking for her hand and strongly suggested that she wished for him to do so." He looks at both the men before addressing Lord Ilyn. "I must warn you that there will be no negotiations of the terms, the dowry will be provided by the crown as per the agreement between King Baelor the first of his name, Lord Yronwood and Lord Merryweather, the wedding will be held at Highgarden at my expense, as per agreement between myself and King Baelor" By which he means Lady Margaery and King Baelor, and a dowry fit for Lord Merryweather would make Ser Roland a rich man. "So, my lord, will her hand be asked for?" Lord Ilyn takes a moment to let all that sink in, then he looks at Roland and smiles. "My brother has my leave and blessing to ask for her hand."

Roland smiled and dipped his head at Lord Tyrell's opening, his frustration at the failure to bring Lord Merryweather to justice softened by Malyk's words yesterday and receiving praise.
"Lord Durwell was too strong for me yesterday, I must continue to improve myself to better serve my lord."
Trying to keep a level head, he follows Leo's lead and only takes a half cup of the excellent wine - who could blame a man for wanting more? The Redwynes produced many of the realms finest vintages along with many of its finest knights.
He gripped his the arms of his seat with needless nerves at Lord Tyrell's question, relaxing only upon his brother's answer.
"My thanks dear brother. I shall gladly ask for the gentle Alicent's hand. I knew her already through her cousin, and we have only grown closer through tragedy."
He turned to the Longthorn.
"If Lady Alicent accepts my request will the matter be public immediately? We are a long way from Sunspear or her father's seat and I do not know if she has standing permission to make an alternative match."
She wishes for me to ask. His heart leapt, the only danger here was getting exactly what you wished for. It took all of his training not to stand and run to Alicent and immediately ask her hand in marriage. I may yet be the only man with happy memories of Highgarden with today's news and my subsequent marriage here.
As yet, he did not know what Alicent had learned from Lord Levalle and what this augured for his birth house.
As yet, the foolish young knight was too naive, too happy to remember to be careful about what you wished for...

"What happens now, ser, is that I consult with The Prince of Dragonstone, I would be very surprised if he feels a need to bring it up to his father first. But I do not bother asking the crown first if I then would have to go back and say that it will not happen because some lord or knight said no." Lord Leo chuckles. "Then I will write to Lord Yronwood. Most lords would probably accept the arrangement, but some might object to having a second son replace one of Lord Eldon's import, even if that second son almost won in the toughest jousting field since the days of the Dragonknight and may yet emerge victorious in an eqally competitive melee, and also saved the life of Lady Alicent and Lady Marianne and bested a man of Ser Rennifer's calibre to avenge the horrible insults visited upon Lady Alicent and House Yronwood" At least he would not have hesitated to consider such a knight a suitable enough match for one of his cousins, but he might still judge one of his lords bannermen a more fitting husband. "Until we receive a final answer, you will not court any other lady, you will not do anything that could possibly shame your potential wife to be, and you will not take a septon's vows or join the night's watch or anything else that might prevent you from marrying her. And if Lord Yronwood agrees, you will wed her and bed her, whatever happens after that is no longer my problem. But if I go to the prince, and you cock it up, the crown will be very unhappy with me, which means I will be very unhappy with House Cordwayner, and if I am very unhappy with House Cordwayner I shall tax Hammerhaal three times what the harvest will be in a good year, I will sell the resulting debt to the Iron Bank at a discount and those Braavosi leeches will find themselves a very rich man who would like to buy himself a Lordship." Lord Leo probably wouldn't go through all of that, his tone is grave but not threatening, and he seems to enjoy coming up with his illustrations "So I hope we both can agree that one House Levalle along the Mander is quite enough."

Prince Baelor was a good and true man, so everyone said. Roland was certain he would not stand in the way of love, even if he only knew the man by reputation. D11 Frayed Knot - Knowledge: 3d6 9While not an expert in the factoring of receivables, Roland was at least grasped the basics of Lord Tyrell's warning, and even vaguely recalled the Iron Bank funding the odd bastard or cousin in settling a succession crisis after finding their original borrower tardy in paying. "I shall not fail my lord's lord, my brother's lord." Roland turned to his older brother with a grateful smile and nod. "I will conduct myself well, such that I prove worthy of Lady Alicent." "By your leave my Lord, I shall seek out Lady Alicent and ask for her hand in marriage." [OOC: Knowledge roll just for the sake of a stupid finance gag... Anything further here? Otherwise happy to /scene or transition this thread in to Roland asking Alicent for her hand in marriage.]

"It's the father you must ask, which I am doing for you, the opinion of the lady formally does not matter except in front of the septon." He gives Roland a knowing look "But normally a lady would not defy her father, but rather than conceal that she had flowered as would be the most daring act to be expected from a young lady in her position, she wrote a letter to Lord Eldon and told him that she would humiliate him in front of everyone right there on the floor of the sept, when he confronted her about it, she locked eyes with him at only three and ten and did not even blink." He seems to enjoy that memory. "So I suggest that you do not make her change her mind"
Scene then.
