The staff of Lord Tyrell's seneschal taps hard upon the stone floor for silence, the witnesses lay out their stories. "Sweetsleep, my lord, there is no doubt about" concludes maester Perywn. "I cannot believe that a man such as Ser Dagos could ever have done this." says Ser Lyonel of the Cockleswhent. "He is an honorable man, and an old friend of Lord Bryce, but it was he that gifted him with that bottle". The nephew of Ser Dagos, Ser Desmond, considered to be the designated heir of Lord Bryce remains silent. "Poison is the weapon of bastards and women!" Declares one septon, his eyes upon the lovely lady Ysilla, though he tries to disappear in the crowds very quickly at her casual reply with real venom in her eyes "And Eunuchs, I hear", the seneschall shouts for silence. Ser Jonothor Wellbeck also elaborates on the friendship between Ser Dagos and Lord Bryce, finding it odd that such good friends would not share a bottle between them. An Oakheart man steps forward to share that as Lord Bryce was seeking a new wife, Ser Desmond might loose his prospects of succeeding him, and that therefore Ser Dagos did the deed to ensure that House Manwoody, Dornish as they are, known for the use of poison, would have placed one of theirs on the seat.
Ser Dagos, of course, have a hard time defending himself, as there aren't any witnesses that could proclaim his innocence, and he did indeed gift that bottle to Lord Bryce, a Dornish Vintage not generally available in the Reach that had become a favorite of his friend. Lord Tyrell, noting that there are hardly strong evidence in either direction decides that the matter is best decided by the gods in a trial by combat, Ser Dagos declares that he will fight on foot. Lord Leo quickly notes that it would hardly be honorable for his opponent to face him on horseback in that case and seems to be contented that the matter is out of his hands.
Ser Jonothor rises to shout that he should be the one to send the Dornish piece of shit to the seven hells, many young knights eager for glory volunteer, Ser Manfryd Grimm looks to his lord and decides not to step forward upon receiving some sign only he could notice, or perhaps no sign at all is sign enough? Most of the more seasoned knights and lords appears unconvinced and seems to decide to have no part in this. Lord Walgrave shrewdly repeats the words of the late Lord Karl that all good men should step forward to see justice done.
Observe the proceedings: Awareness (Empathy) TN 9 Cunning (Logic) TN 9
Both tests may be made in order to try and obtain clues of what is going on, you may choose to simply make general observations or try to focus on specific individuals (up to three).
Standing for Lord Tyrell Knights wishing to stand as champion against Ser Dagos must succeed on the following two tests: For each rank in Agility, Athletics and Endurance beyond 3, gain +1 to the tests, for each rank of Fighting above 4, gain +1D to the tests. +1 per combat benefit applicable for fighting on foot. Status(Reputation)+Chivalry TN 12 Persuasion(Convince)+Chivalry TN 12
Highest total DoS among those qualifying will be named by Lord Leo. Tie-breakers will typically be settled by Lord Leo's subjective opinion of who's the most able (and honorable) fighter. Other PC's of one's house may share the information gained through Awareness and Cunning. Anyone volunteering gains +2 disposition from Lord Oakheart.
The challenger will face Ser Dagos on foot in a match until either side yields (or dies), there is no shame in yielding after taking injuries or shown to clearly being outmatched (narrator discretion), holding one's punches (including yielding too soon) tends to cost chivalry. Holding out until defeat or taking the maximum amount of allowed injuries before yielding grants +1 chivalry, victory grants +1 chivalry and +2 glory. Additionally, defeating Ser Dagos grants +1 fire should the champion so desire.
Special: -Sponsor benefit: Gain +1D on the tests for standing as champion. -May spend 1 influence or glory to grant +1D on the tests for standing as champion. -Vainglorious and Prejudice (Dornish) triggers by the chance to challenge. -If possible OOC, trial by combat should take place on D11, fatigue/injuries/wounds taken in one scene does not affect the tests in another scene, but the sum across scenes cannot exceed the normal maximum.

The way her many suitors take even this opportunity to try and impress her, one might be forgiven to think that these proceedings are of no greater import than the mock trial in every sense of the word that Butterbumps had orchestrated. Lady Lysette does not succumb to the temptation of such arrogant thoughts. In her mind, she vows to never preside over such a political handwash, Lord Leo must know that there is only hearsay and wild speculation supporting the accusations, and given the amount of interest in seeing Dornish blood and shame...disgusting. She grimaces and utters that only dishonorable men would take up arms against one clearly framed. At the very least she could ensure that nobody serious about winning her favor would dare take part in this wicked scheme. Ser Aerion, normally one of the first in the line when honors and glory could be won is steeled by her words, and does not step forward. But Ser Imry Levalle does not hesitate and seems to be favored among the young hot-heads seeking glory. Lord Middlebury volunteers Ser Lambert. Lysette observes: 2#6d6k4 16 23Vainglorious+1D: 4d6 19 Aerion resists themptation to stand. Imry Steps forth: 2#4d6+3 15 20 3 DoS Lambert offers (Sponsor +1D): 4d6k3+1 11 4d6+1 17 2 DoS Jonothor steps forward: 5d6k3+2 15 5d6k3+4 17 3 DoS Jonothor is preferred ahead of Imry.

Malyk had taken the time from his incredibly busy schedule to bear witness to this foolishness. If anyone here was interested in justice, they hid it well. From one of the many staircases he watched the proceedings. Young men anxious to prove their prowess, prejudice and politics. Tired old men clueless to the world around them. Experienced enough to know this for what it was, beaten down enough not to care. The Seven can protect us from everything but our own stupidity.
He quickly dispensed with most of the crowd, concentrating on the few that mattered. Lord Durwell, who may well have had a hand in orchestrating this. Ser Farman Flowers, who had eyes on House Bridges to fuel his excesses. Finally Lord Oakheart, who seemed entirely too invested in Ser Dagos' guilt.
Having made his assessment, he slipped from the room. The actual combat would prove nothing and except for the combatants the outcome was largely irrelevant.

This one had special meaning to him due to Lady Laena's "involvement". Balon felt a little weird being at the trial as the victim was the man Laena claimed was going to propose to her less than two days ago. In that time he'd attempted and failed to question Ser Farman (at Laena's request) about the murder then promptly began to court Laena. While she reciprocated his feelings it wasn't at the same level as Balon and her affection came with some serious caveats. Regardless Balon thought if he could somehow bring her closure it'd help in securing her hand. He gently squeezed his good luck charm as he listened to the trial. The evidence presented was weak but there were some irregularities that casted suspicion on Ser Dagos. "Everybody knows poison is the favorite tool of the Dornish." Balon leaned in and whispered to a fellow knight who nodded approvingly. Balon looked to Ser Jonothor, Ser Desmond, and Lord Walgrave to try and see if there was something behind their words and actions, a clue as to what was going on 'behind the curtain'. With the mention of Desmond losing his lordship if Laena produced an heir Balon readily agreed, "If Ser Desmond didn't authorize the use of poison maybe Ser Dagos did it himself to ensure his nephew became lord." When it came time for knights to step forward and offer their sword Balon did so. "I humbly ask that I be permitted to stand against Ser Dagos."

Although the idea of a chance to show off his prowess in a format that favored his strengths had an undeniable appeal to Daeron, even he thought that this was a pretty flimsy case and wanted no part in it. He had already performed one public execution this week, but that one was at least against a guilty man. Ultimately it was the words of Lady Lysette that cemented his decision to stay out of this trial. He couldn't stop it from going forward, and most likely Lord Tyrell's champion would kill this man, but he wouldn't be the one holding the bloody sword. He contented himself with observing the remainder of the trial. There was something in the undercurrent here, he could feel it. Ashara eyes the proceedings carefully. Enough innocent blood had been spilled, it would be best if only the guilty party did this time... or more likely, the catspaw. She dismissed the septon's lunacy regarding Ysilla, and the oakheart man most likely just wanted to curry favor with his lord. Ser Jonothor seemed awfully intent on proving that Ser Dagos was guilty, and that was curious. Lord Gormon and Lady Helicent bore watching as well, for other reasons. "See them with eyes unclouded. See how they move, how they shift, where they look. Your opponent will tell you everything you need to know to defeat them. What they want, what they fear, they will tell you every secret they ever thought to keep hidden, if you but know how to look."She suppresses a smile at the memory. It wouldn't do for someone to think she was smiling at this farce. Venom in Her Eyes - Awareness(empathy): 6d6k4+3 27 quad 6s, not bad. 4 DoS Venom in Her Eyes - Cunning(logic): 3d6 10 1 DoS, far less impressive but it gets the job done, I hope.

You keep your original rolls and then add/subtract dices and modifiers as needed, which should mean that the 2#1d7 set should be used to determine which of those new dice to add to the first rolls.

[D11] With venom in her eyes - awareness: 3d6 12 v. TN 9 = 1 DoS
[D11] With venom in her eyes - cunning: 3d6 14 v. TN 9 = 2 DoS
*General Observations*
He entered the proceeding with the expectation that this would be no different then the rest of the tournament. That there would be no justice here. Then he began considering how bitter he had become in the last ten days and thought that he would better serve himself to set his emotions until at least after the tournament. After that decision was made he decided to pay more attention to what was happening, which went well enough until his thoughts began drifting elsewhere, mostly to Lady Ysilla and what she must be going through.

Venom - Prejudice v TN12: 4d6k3 12 - pass but voluntary fail because why not
A Lord, a veteran of the Dornish Wars laid dead. Murdered by poisoned dornish wine gifted to him by a dornishman, only to give way for a half-dornish mongrel to the seat of his Lordship. A clear cut fucking case if there ever was one. This trial was theatrics and nothing more, and for good fucking reason - it was reassuring to see that the Lords of the Reach hadn't gone completely arse up for Dorne, unlike the rest of the Kingdoms. "Dornish blood to pay for Dornish poison!" he yelled from the back of the room, just one if the many voices calling out for justice. "Show them what their treachery is worth set against good Reachman steel!" Like many others, he offered his sword in the name of justice. His name didn't carry much weight and there where many younger men with more fire in them than him but none so much as the young Balon. When Donnel's son offered his sword up Eoric cheered for him - the boy had earned the monicker Snake Eater amongst the soldiers, so who more fitting? "Blackbriar for justice, gods damn it!" he hollered.

Laena trusted in her cousin Ashara's eyes, wits, and honesty, and delegated assessment of the most likely suspects to her. Laena herself concentrated on less likely suspects, who still could not be overlooked entirely. Firstly, she considered Ser Dagos himself. *Maybe* he really was guilty, turning on his friend for love of his nephew? Next, her eye settled on Lady Alysanne Bridges. Lord Marq had dismissed her as a possibility, but who knew his true motivations? Bitterness and resentment were useful tools for malicious hands to bend to their will. As for her third? Hmmm. She was fairly sure she had Ser Farman's role nailed down. Lord Walgrave would love the result, but she believed would not join such an underhanded scheme. Ser Desmond? She just could not see him doing that. That left ... Ser Lyonel. Not someone she knew much about, but reportedly an ally of Ser Desmond. Exactly the kind of man who would be overlooked in these circumstances. Yes, she'd keep an eye on him, as well. With Venom - Awareness (Empathy) - TN9: 5d6k4 10 1 DoS With Venom - Cunning (Logic) - TN9: 5d6k4 18 2 DoS Her only concern over the entire farce of a trial was that it might, by accident more than design, steal her vengeance from her, should it turn out, unlikely as it is, that Ser Dagos were actually guilty.

Roland was no great politician, unable to unpick the plots unfolding before him. He would have to rely on others to guide him on political matters - an opportunity for them to point him in the direction that best served their ends. Still, he managed to pick up on some basic emotional tells. From his own history with the man he knew that most matters Lord Oakheart was in favour of he was opposed to, and the kind hearted Lysette turning her back on the trial spoke volumes to him. While he was not among those who sought her favour, he regarded her as having her father's sense of honour, even if she was a woman. If she regarded the trial as a farce and a frame-up, then so did he. D11 With venom - Awareness, Cunning TN 9: 3d6 9 2d6 8
