The great hall is filled with the chatter of just about every lord of the Reach and their retinues, The two princes and many others such as Lord Hayford, Bloodraven and Ser Lyonel Baratheon watch stoically from the galleries, before the proceedings, Butterbumps have been entertaining those who came early, where he plays the role of the Lord of the Low Gardens sitting in judgement of a straw doll accusing of having murdered his favorite pigeon, and then roasted and eaten it to hide the evidence. Butterbumps sits upon a ridiculously high stilted chair, towering above the Oakenseat, covering himself in a cape of red velvet decked with ermine at least eight feet long mounted on a frame to make him seem a giant. When the straw doll remains silent, the fool of fools declares that the matter shall be settled by execution by trial by combat against himself, and Gertrude is lead in for the dwarf to mount, he is given his phallous-lance and bears down upon the doll to reveal that it contained a cage full of pigeons that was broken open by his surprisingly accurate lance strike. The frightened birds flutter about the hall, with attendants getting to work with catching them. Butterbumps declares that the stomach contents of the vile blackguard as well as the judgement of the gods proves Ser Strawbundle to be every bit the Blackguard.
This event functions in the fashion that there is a number of Victory Points (VP's) that may be gathered for Abelar.
Working the crowd
Move around the assembled nobles to try and sway their opinions one way or the other. Abelar may not partake in this step.
Support either Abelar or Eldon. Note: All tests on this option must be made within 1 week to be valid
Awareness (Empathy) TN 9
Persuasion (Bargain, Convince, Incite or Intimidate)+Chivalry/Virtue TN 12
Status (Reputation)+Chivalry/Virtue TN 12
-Critical failure: -1 influence.
-If the supporters of Eldon gains 3 or more DoS than those of Abelar, -1VP
-If the supporters of Abelar gains 3 or more DoS than those of Eldon, +1VP
Anyone supporting Abelar suffers -2 Disposition from Lord Eldon, but may avoid this by succeeding on a TN 16 Deception(act) test. Anyone supporting Eldon gains +1 disposition from him. (Abelar will know the leanings of all those that gains or loses disposition with Eldon).
Critical failure on any of the tests when supporting Abelar results in a challenge being issued, from Eldon (through one of his knights) or someone eager for glory or courting his favor. Issuing such a challenge grants +2 disposition with Lord Eldon (Alliser may volunteer Robyn for the same effect).
Challenges that can be undertaken by Abelar to gain VP:
Assert the Authority of the faith over that of Lord Eldon:
Status(Reputation) against Lord Eldon's passive status(reputation)+chivalry (21), famous applies.
-Gain 1 VP per DoS.
-Critical Failure: -1 VP
Speech:
Simple intrigue against Lord Tyrell's ID of 18
-Counts as intrigue against crowd for orator benefits (Septon does not apply)
-Gain 1 VP per DoS
-Critical Failure: -1 VP
Trial by combat:
May be demanded by either side (Lord Eldon will invoke it if Abelar gains 3 or more VP)
-Only knights may serve as champions.
-Abelar gains +2 VP if his champion is victorious, and his total VP for the event cannot be less than 1
-If Abelar's champion is defeated, he suffers -2VP, and his toal VP for the event cannot be more than 1
-Offering to stand for Eldon grants +3 disposition with him, publicly offering to stand for Abelar results in -3 disposition. (Alliser may volunteer Robyn for same effect)
House Blackbriar takes a hit of 6-VP influence, which is halved if Abelar is executed or expelled from Blacbriar lands (round down).
More than 3 VP: Abelar is exonerated of the charges against him.
1-3: Abelar is given a week to leave Highgarden and will be arrested should he return, Lord Tyrell will write to the Starry Sept where Abelar will have to present himself and face possible expulsion from the faith (being tried in absentia will almost certainly lead to him being expelled).
0 or less VP: Execution (will be allowed to take the black)
Special:
-A DP used affects all tests equally, or can give +1 VP.
-A DP burnt gives +5 VP.
-A point of Influence spent grants +3 DoS on working the crowd part.
-If possible OOC, trial by combat should take place on D11, fatigue/injuries/wounds taken in one scene does not affect the tests in another scene, but the sum across scenes cannot exceed the normal maximum.
