Instead Balon stuck to his objective and saw Lord Starling's squad. A weakened Ser Qhorin looked like the best target to engage and he'd work his way through the squad after Qhorin was defeated.

Ser Qhorin groans in his mind when he sees who is coming for him, he had barely withstood Lord Peake, now he faced what is probably a greater challenge. Initiative: 3d6-7 5CD: 9 AR 10 Health: 6/12 Injuries: 3

Scene 4, Personal Combat R1, Charge Qhorin: 8d6k4+6 26, 4 DoS, 32-10 = 22 Damage, Unhorsed & Unconscious if Defeated.CD: 13 AR: 10 HP: 12/12 F/I/W: 0/0/0 Damage: 8 / DoS (ATH +1, +1 Mounted, +2 Charge) _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Life was rarely fair and Ser Qhorin learned that lesson the hard way when Balon came at him like a nightmare given form. Balon's sword hit him with such force he was launched from his saddle and landed with a thud. Hopefully someone from his team would carry him to safety. Of my other targets, who is in charge range & who are they facing (if Balon can discern that).

With Ser Qhorin laying unconscious on the ground Balon finished what Lord Gormon had started. As he spurred Beast onward he quickly processed the battlefield around him looking for his next opponent. His target was Willem Starling but the Lord of Kingsbridge was escorting a defeated foe off the battlefield. To his left he saw Ser Otho dealing with a member of the Companions in a way that'd earned him his infamous moniker. In front of Balon he saw Ser Vardis of Kingsbridge and Lord Blackwood. Balon kicked the flanks of his horse and made for Ser Vardis. As he closed in on the knight from Kingsbridge he saw Balon coming and prepared to receive the charge. It was dangerous to charge a ready foe but Balon could feel his good luck charm bouncing against his chest. Not today.

Vardis' strike is well placed, but Balon expertly deflects the blow while repaying in kind, the Kingsbridge companion may match Balon for offense, but he is nowhere near his ability to defend himself.
No, we'll use same initiative in same scene. Vardis: Initiative: 3d6-4 5CD: 9(13) AR: 10 Health 2/12 Injuries: 1 Counterattack: 6d6k4+5 22 is 1 DoS, so glances off the armor. Takes injury and fatigue to ignore AP on next attack.

Still he was taking no chances and with a flurry of sword strikes Balon put Vardis in an awkward position in the saddle allowing Balon to deliver a devastating blow. If defeated Balon will look to see if anyone on Roland's team is still in 1 vs 1 combat and charge them for R4 (probably).

Balon and Ser Otho have torn Lord Willem's squad to shreds while he were out escorting Ser Eldred Yronwood off the field, and Ser Eldred was part of the half of Balon's squad that would be best used to as human shields for the other half. The only one left is Lord Appleton, who made short process of Ser Vance Hightower, another man on Balon's squad from the same half, Balon spies the opportunity to catch him off guard, horrified by the brutality of Ser Otho. The Brute of Bracken have left two dead on the field already, one of them a lord and the other a companion. A cynical man would take the rest of his squad and make a break for it to the other group of clashing knights leaving Ser Otho to deal with Ser Roland and his squad, for surely an honorable knight like Ser Roland would make stopping Ser Otho his highest priority. Maybe that was the point? Otho Bracken is the bait to lure Ser Roland and his best men here while Bittersteel and his best men, or the rest of his best men, for Balon and Otho surely count among his best, to where Ser Roland will not be and where he will be needed the most?
Bittersteel most likely needs Balon and his squad here to draw Ser Roland's charge, but aside from himself and Ser Otho, none of Balon's men can match those that will come with Ser Roland, and neither is his squad at full strength. If he could take Lord Appleton out, it would be one less man to deal with, but less time to prepare for what follows.
Vardis is defeated.
Balon can charge Lord Appleton if he likes (who will take fatigue to ignore AP if attacked) before he gets to counterattack.

R4: Rally your Squad, +2 Scene 5 Command Test R5: Rally your squad, +2 Scene 5 Command Test
Balon saw Lord Appleton and knew if he delivered a powerful charge he'd have a good chance of defeating him in the following clash of blades. The desire to do so was strong but he resisted as he witnessed Ser Otho seemingly kill Lord Blackwood. If that didn't get Ser Roland (Cordwayner) to engage with his squad, nothing would. Waving his sword and yelling orders Balon rallied them remainder of his knights. "To me! To me!" he shouted and did his best to get the attention of Ser Otho. Combined they might be able to defeat Ser Roland and his champions. The danger was trying to coordinate with a rabid dog like Otho.
Among Roland's knights was Symon Starkwood. Behind the visor of his helmet Balon's eyes narrowed in contempt.
