More than one voice is worried about young Ser Symon's prospects against Lord Walgrave, perhaps not as physically powerful now as in the youth, he is still considered a very skilled swordsman, and Ser Symon is not particularly noted as such. Those fears appears largely unfounded as Ser Symon's has the physique and vigor of a young man to match his opponent, it seems too close to call, which apparently the combatants themselves seem to figure out, when Ser Symon offers to call it a draw, Lord Walgrave hesitates only a little bit before agreeing, muttering about his opponent being lucky today.

There were two duels involving the lord and heir to House Starkwood and Balon wanted to be present for both. If only they could both meet unfortunate ends. Balon made sure to get a good view of the fight, smiling and laughing knowing what was about to happen. Walgrave was an excellent fighter and Symon was a filthy half-breed from a house most didn't know existed and he shouldn't stand a chance. And yet he did. Was Walgrave ill? Had Symon resorted to poison or some other Dornish trickery to slow him? Whatever it was the savaging Balon was expecting didn't happen. It seemed Walgrave was slowly wearing Symon down but Balon could tell the longer the fight went the more it seemed like it'd be a draw.
Balon's demeanor became significantly darker when the fighters agreed to a draw. NO! This wasn't supposed to happen. After the victories of Ser Normyn, Ser Aemon, and the Red Lion, Lord Walgrave should've added to the list of those with Fire sympathies. Balon turned to the knight next to him, "The good news is Fireball will duel his father later. Lord Ulbert won't escape justice as easily as his son did."

Roland considered himself a good judge of martial contest, and had little expectation of Ser Symon's success. On any given day a man could produce a surprising result, and Ser Symon seemed inspired at answering Lord Oakheart's provocations from the night before.
He wished it were not so, but while he strove to be a good man he was already irked at Ser Symon driving so many men away from his melee team, despite the broader benefits of House Starkwood's presence. While Ser Symon could not be held accountable for anti-Dornish sentiment, his recruitment efforts had been undiplomatic at best and his suggested tactics prompted eye-rolling and made more than one knight abandon Roland's team.
Little blood had been shed before the draw was offered, and neither combatant seemed over-exerted as yet. As with Ser Daemon's duel with Balon, Roland was disappointed to see a duel of honour ended without being truly sealed in blood, and this disappointment overwhelmed the positive impression from Ser Symon's feat of arms in earning a draw.
Old prejudices lingered still - he was loyal to the rightful king, but that did not mean he had to embrace every Dornishman. Typical Dornishman - skirmishing and then withdrawing before a decisive result. Beyond House Dayne's exemplars there are few true knights in Dorne.
[OOC: Roland now Dislikes Ser Symon Starkwood, stacking effectively -1 disposition each from this and the recruitment drive thread. Good to have a bit of internal division! He already has a poor disposition towards Lord Oakheart anyway from the Dornish war.]

A disappointment in terms of entertainment but relief in how it might have ended. Titus could not help but think of Ashara risking the loss of both brother and father in one day and was glad that Starkwood did not find itself without an heir.
He did not know Lord Walgrave more than by reputation and he seemed to be cut from the same block as Fireball. Vengeance and petty hatred above duty and honour. Ser Symon might have had dornish blood and the look of the Rhoynar but he was not amongst the serpents that had murdered the young king nor Lord Walgrave's father. But his victory stood testament of two things - the hardiness of the Starkwood stock and the advancing years of Lord Walgrave.
