One last time, Roland dipped his lance to Lady Janna Hightower and her family. Lord Durwell was as skilled a knight as he was a politician - despite their difference in rank, Roland had seen evidence of the latter firsthand twice already. Firstly with his prisoner from Lady Alicent Yronwood, and then again at Lord Tyrell's feast, when Lord Durwell maneuvered Lord Merryweather in to a broken betrothal. A suspicious man or a cunning man may have pondered such happening and unpicked them. Roland was not such a man. At another time, Ser Roland might have sought to drag the match out and try his sword arm against his talented Lordly opponent, but today was not a day for such games. His swordsmanship was already due to be tested against Ser Rennifer Waters later that day, and he could not risk dishonouring Lady Alicent Yronwood's cause with a poor performance due to injuries from pursuing personal glory. Instead he risked much, hopeful of making an end to matters relatively swiftly on one side or the other. Naming the Queen of Love and Beauty was a rare honour, and a rare chance to get oneself in political trouble in such grand company. Some would think it no great hardship to lose a final in such a heated environment, but Roland was a sincere man and sought to give his best... Ever the showman, Lord Durwell enters with style and flair, saluting Lady Tanda and then Lord Tyrell in a fashion which Lady Amerei most certainly will interpret as a mark of affection to her, though this would not be very apparent to most others. Roland's knowledge and observations suggests that he is both experienced and skilled, with a habit of varying his tactics and finding the weak spots of his opponents. PR 22 AR 10 Health 12 Also note that it's a very long stretch to attribute Lord Eldon's outburst to whatever Marq told him, especially IC.

Roland rode fine passes, but his efforts were uneven - too much focused upon dismounting his opponent and not enough care paid to retaining his own seat. Even a modest blow from Lord Durwell was likely to cost him his seat. While Roland's aggressive approach would see him obtain more popularity with the crowd, it might appear as if his opponent chose more wisely in electing defense over offense in response. N+B+EF: 2#7d6k4+6 25 20 2#6d6k4+4 18 22 2#4d6 18 9

A swift defeat, with Lord Durwell carrying the day.
Roland rose to his feet, saluting his conqueror. The man had overcome Blackfyre himself - none could doubt him worthy of victory!
[OOC: just checking destiny options with Narrator/seeing how duel goes before 100% confirming above.]

[OOC: spending destiny on this and seeing if Lord Durwell cares enough to cancel it. Hopefully he has enough other tournament victories in the bag!
Tentative plan if victorious would be to complicate Roland's life by crowning Janna Hightower, as there are various interesting ways this could complicate Roland's life as discussed in the OOC threads. Either I'll turn Roland's proudest victory in to a poisoned chalice or waste my last destiny point, but there's something to be said for being bold!]

Marq Durwell opts to spend a DP to cancel it out.
