Blackfyre. Blackhorn. Black deeds. Balon's mouth had finally gotten him into real trouble. The previous night at the feast he thought he'd been setting a trap for Ser Jasper when in fact it was he that'd walked into a trap. He didn't blame Ser Daemon. Balon was speaking and acting in support of the Fire faction and the Warrior Reborn could only allow so much before he had to tame the barking war-dog. Balon was in a lose-lose situation. He couldn't yield right away because he'd look like a coward. He couldn't beat Ser Daemon because Blackfyre had to appear invincible. In reality Daemon was most likely unbeatale but if a knight from a small house like Blackbriar could seriously challenge him there'd be ramifications to even a slightly diminished image. The best Balon could hope for was a decent showing that he could walk away from under his own power without any lasting injuries. If there was a silver lining it was Ser Daemon was far too chivalrous to inflict any serious damage to Balon. At least he hoped. D10, R1 vs. Blackfyre, Charge TN13: 8d6k4 15, 1 DoS, No DamageBalon took the initiative and charged. He knew he couldn't win but he had to appear to do his best. He made it past the defenses of Daemon but the strike did little more than glance off his armor. Balon raised his shield knowing the counter-strike would be quick and devastating. As Balon raises his shield high, Ser Daemon finds a low opening, and where Balon's efforts would be sufficient to shrug off the attack of just about anyone he has matched blades with, it but it feels like Blackfyre would be able to take on any two of those he have faced before, maybe any three. Aim+Attack (LBF I, -4b): 6d6k6+2 27 3 DoS is 3x7-10=11 damage after AR. CD: 13 (17) AR: 10 Health 15

Greater Action: Yield
Balon oompfft when he was struck with Blackfyre. He assumed he'd feel the warm-wet feeling of blood under his armor but it never came. He truly is the Warrior reborn. Balon could have continued fighting. The primal part of his mind screamed to swing his sword but the rationale part telling him to yield prevailed. The real battle was to come tomorrow and he needed to be ready to fight, not hampered by a serious injury. Swallow your pride, tell him what he wants to hear.
"I yield!" Balon threw his sword to the ground (though he kept his shield) and took a knee. Unlike Otho, he wasn't going to attack then yield and further dishonor himself. "I yield," he said again, "I recant my words against Ser Jasper. I was," it pained Balon to say it aloud, especially when it was about a half-breed, "wrong to act in the manner I did. I owe you and Ser Jasper an apology."

"No, not to me, only to him" Ser Daemon replies, clearly expecting that Balon seeks him out to repent. "And others you have insulted, ser."

Post by Titus Blackbriar on Nov 22, 2018 22:43:01 GMT 1
The Septon had issued Titus to stand in defence for all Blackbriars. To guard them from all blades; bold and hidden alike, despite what ever they might stand accused for or however much they might anger him, in atonement for risking the curse of Kinslayer on himself or Balon.
Balon had angered him last night and whilst it was not joy that Titus had felt when Blackfyre laid down his gauntlet before his brother there was a grim satisfaction to it. Justice? Revenge? He did not know. But heeding the Septon's charge Titus approached Balon in the morning with the purpose of offering him to stand in his stead - a foolish notion as Balon was the better swordsman of the two and Blackfyre was certain not to harm him, merely make an example off.
A pointless pursuit as Balon would not here of it and rejected the notion before Titus even had the opportunity to voice it. Their's was a proud breed.
And so it came to be that Titus watched from the stands as his brother and the man he would see crowned King circled each other. Balon's swordsmanship was excellent but Blackfyre more so and it was a fairly short affair. Whilst the gathered crowed might have called jeers, celebrated or call out, Titus did stood like a statue through out the bout betraying nothing but grim silence.

Roland nodded, as ever moved by the contrast between Ser Daemon's prowess and simple knightly wisdom and the blackness of his followers. Lady Laena Pyre was right - Ser Daemon had to be protected from his so-called friends, vipers that hid behind smiles while using a better man to advance their plans for castles, coin and chains of office.
Ser Balon displayed the same bravery he had demonstrated in the earlier riots: none, surrendering with barely a series of blows exchanged. How could the man have been so brave beside his Companion in rescuing Ser Aladore and yet a craven at other times? Mayhap it was the name, for he shared it with several Targaryens and the dragonlords were oft erratic. Or perhaps the man was a drunk or berserker, needing to stiffen his courage with drink or bloodlust to perform at his peak? Roland had seen many men break in such a fashion in Dorne and briefly felt a pang of sympathy for the monster, mixed with concern that barely enough blows had been exchanged and no blood shed here. Honour could barely be said to have been satisfied.
How far Ser Balon took Ser Daemon's instruction to apologise would be illuminating, for the list of those he had wronged was long indeed and many would likely demand restitution or some show of penance. He had threatened lethal violence to fellow nobles in the melee already after all.

Daeron nodded at the results and was not surprised with them. He had developed a fondness for the men of the Blackbriar family and he even considered Balon a friend, but his actions reflected poorly on the Blackfyre cause. To see Ser Daemon himself rebuking him with sword in hand was the strongest indicator of the man's honor. It was easy to oppose an enemy, but to hold an ally in opposition was far more difficult.

"No, not to me, only to him" Ser Daemon replies, clearly expecting that Balon seeks him out to repent. "And others you have insulted, ser." Balon removed his helm to show the sincerity in his eyes when he answered Ser Daemon, "As you command. I will seek out Ser Jasper before the day is out." The second part caught Balon off guard. Who else do I need to apologize to? Ser Walton? He's dead... Balon thought back to the things he'd said the past week. A feeling of dread washed over him. Noooo, not her. Not that fucking bitch. Any one but her. I'd rather take the black than ask for that's cunt's forgiveness. Balon's confrontation with Ashara was fairly well known and regardless of what she had said to him he'd looked like the bad guy when she "fell". Balon swallowed hard, it felt like there was acid in his throat and it physically pained him to say the words, "I will seek the forgiveness of others as well."He reached for his sword and sheathed it. Balon stood and with his helm in the crook of his arm he bowed to Ser Daemon and went to leave. The fight had been short but it was done and more importantly he was unhurt for the melee to come. [/scene for me]
