Audience with Ser Thaddeus?: 6d6k5+6 27Moving on from her rumour-mongering, Laena's next meeting was with Ser Thaddeus Levalle. Meeting him again so soon after their first meeting might send the wrong message, so she'd made sure to bring a couple of chaperones with her. In other circumstances, on a different day, she might be flattered were he to try and flirt with her. But this was not the day to push her. She was here to save the life of a lord she hated, and kiss a lord she liked; and Lord Bryce was dead.

Ser Thaddeus looks at her expectantly, with some curiosity upon his face.

"Ser Thaddeus," She greets him with a curtsey. "Thank you for agreeing to meet with me.
"You impressed me last night, at the dance. So, I decided on a quick, quiet word." She stepped forward and sideways, so their right shoulders were almost touching, allowing her to lower her voice more. "I know you support Bittersteel. You're a smart man, you understand the meaning of recent events. For your father's sake, who you spoke so well of last night, should he not share those leanings, be careful." She forces a momentary half-smile. "Not that any will hear anything from me, of course."

"Did I impress my lady just as much as Lord Marq? Who have turned riding two horses into such a form of art that he does multiple such balancing acts at the same time?" He winks knowingly. "My loyalties are with my house, and just as of last evening, we placed considerable stakes on two different horses if idle gossip is to be believed. If my lady is aware of my activities the past few days, she could not have missed the different contexts in which we find ourselves dealing now." The young man is smart enough not to let on much beyond that which Laena already told him that she knows, and it is even dubious as to whether or not he confirms anything, or if his hints are actually hints or just idle chatter. The political victory scored by Ser Addam with Lord Peake and Bittersteel riding on his coattails to cash in the winnings and turn the Florents to their cause would surely have changed things. Lord Reynald seems not the type to tolerate his bannerman to act contrary to his own leanings, unless he judges it to be in his interest to let the Levalle's bet on the other horse.

"My lord is adept with both foot and tongue, but no. I have witnessed none like Lord Marq. He soars at such a height, and with such grace, that I watch with great interest as to how he lands. Will it be as awe-inspiring as his moves to date, or will he miss a crucial step and fall with all the grace of a bird slain mid-flight? However impressive he is, even he is as mortal as his friend Lord Bryce. Or your father."
She straightens her head. "Take my words as they were intended, heir to the Levalles: a gift, free of strings, to repay the gift you gave me last night: That of not being boring. Both gifts may take the majority of their value from their rarity, but that only increases their value in my eyes."

"Lord Reynald spoke with great admiration of him many years ago, when I was but a young squire." Thaddeus agrees. "But he oft wondered whether the man played his games for their own sake or if he actually had an end in mind. I must admit that I am wondering much the same"

She recognises a short laugh as being an apt response, but beyond moving the chest in and out rapidly, she can't quite remember how it works, so she makes do with a smile. "You are hardly the only ones. My personal theory is that he is an artist, creating works of art by applying schemes to people, rather than paint to canvas. I confess, I have little time for most art - unfortunate for a lady - but I could watch his art for hours."
