Lysette Starling didn't frequent the markets. Though well-off compared to smallfolk, the truth was that her House had serious problems with money, and she had little interest in material goods other than new books, so it all worked out rather well.
But this time she wasn't after material goods.
She was no special hand at dealing with rumors and hearsay...such things were not the academic way. But she was well-versed in the various noble houses, and their knights and even some of their more noteworthy servants, so she had names to drop. A little knowledge offered could yield knowledge in return, even in this rough and tumble world. Any trouble that might have started with a pretty young girl was swiftly seen to by the pair of Starling knights that accompanied her.
The knights and servants she asked about were those in Lord Merryweather's employ. They were, she believed, men without honor and most likely had vices. All she needed was a way in. A point to apply leverage to. Given that, and a lever of appropriate length, and even a mountain could be moved. So the maesters said.
