'Ser' Thaddeus was a knight in name only. This, Laena knew by reputation, and he'd proven by failing in the first round of the joust to a man who himself fell in the second. As such, she was unconcerned over his so-called 'charms'. Her first warning that she may have made a serious error came when he took her hand. Rather than the weak grip she expected, he held her hand firmly - not crushing it by any means, but with a steel behind it she did not expect. Further, his hand was calloused, where she was expecting a soft, gentle hand from too much stroking women and not enough striking men. And when he started leading in the dance, he moved like a fighter. Quite against her expectations, her body had definitely sat up and taken definite notice of the young man, the fickle bitch. While this didn't change her intentions - he was Lord Levalle's son, after all - it did make her realise that she may be in a lot more trouble than she expected.
[In game mechanic terms, by reputation, Ser Thaddeus fell outside my Lascivious trigger group, but in fact, he's within it. I thought it amusing for Laena to realise this when it's far too late.] Anyway, Intrigue! Taking Compelling (Charm) FftPT - Initiative - +1 (Daring): 6d6k5+1 23Objective: Friendship! (Honest!) ID: 13 Base Composure: 12/12 FftPT - Start of Intrigue - Deception (Act): 6d6k4+2 8 Pretty sure that's a crit fail - 6 die: 4 1's 2 2's. There is literally a 0.06% chance of rolling that or worse.

"My Lord." She greets him. Now, how to get him talking... "You must be working hard this tourney. I can only imagine the difficulties you are working to overcome. Despite how my father was undoubtedly a much worse man than yours, my reputation is buoyed by his legacy, while you are ... inconvenienced by yours."
His ID is lower than I suspected, so this looks like another Influence race. So, doing 5 rounds at a time. FftPT - R1-5 Persuasion (Act) - Charm - +2 (Courteous) +3 (Graceful) +1 (Daring) +2 (Compelling): 5#6d6k4+8 26 28 30 22 23R1: 26 - 3 DoS - 15 Influence (11 after DR) 1/12 Composure R2: 28 - 3 DoS - 15 Influence (11 after DR) -10/12 Composure Aaand that should do it. Full Victory consequences: +3 Disposition +1D to next Intrigue

"Sometimes, sacrificing reputation for results is a fair trade, my lady" Thaddeus offers. "Nobody likes have peers that haven't even been around for a hundred years when you can trace your line back to Garth Greenhand"
What was that about biting over too much?

"Fair. House Levalle has certainly managed to swallow up an impressive amount of land in its short history, and did so without choking,... yet.
"I imagine that presents its own set of difficulties. Lord Robert managed to more than quintuple his domains. Lord Alliser played the royal courtier very well while still young, gaining your house yet more power and protecting the gains. That's quite the legacy to uphold."
Well, yes, when I said that [in my private forum, for those reading along], I was expecting him to utilize the +1D from Seduction, and potentially 1-shot me. I wasn't expecting him (of all people) to be a (relative) gentleman.

"I would not put it past it for my lord father to leave me with even larger gains than he presently may bestow, it may well be that passing on his legacy to his grandson would be an equally impressive achievement as claiming it would be."

She nods. "I will not give him compliments that we would both know I don't mean, but your father is a cunning and eloquent Player, and I would not wish him for an enemy. So I certainly would not be surprised were your prediction to prove correct.
"And I believe you are correct in your observation as well: consolidation is acquisition's less glamorous and glorious younger brother, but long term, arguably the more important of the pair. Certainly, paying too much attention to the latter and not enough to the former has been the end of many a noble.
"I'm curious, so forgive me if I pry, but does your Lord father keep you close when making decisions, then explain his reasoning to you afterwards, debating the advantages and disadvantages with you in private? Or does he let you make your own way, only debating with you what lessons you have learned on your own accord occasionally? Or something else?"

"He likes to hold counsil early in the morning, and no mercy will be shown upon a son and heir that felt like staying up most of the night to make new acquaintances, nor the younger son either, but at least I learned that after a certain hour, the only acquaintances to be remembered in the morning are those made with a bottle, more felt than actually remembered."

Okay. The main purpose of this intrigue was the mechanics - I want the +1D for when I try and Convince him, hopefully tomorrow, which is where the main RP will happen. So, because I know you're a bit overloaded at the moment, I'm happy to fade away with this scene now, passing pleasant small talk between us.
