Roland stood and applauded Ser Titus Blackbriar all the way back to his tent at the side of the tourney ground.
"Well struck Ser Titus, well struck!"
He smiled up at the younger knight, delighted to see a new champion jouster emerge in the Reach.

“And you Ser!” The young knight was absolutely beaming. Not even in his wildest dreams had he dared to think that he would be where he was right now. “Proof that the Mander does breed the greatest knights in the realm!” They had both defeated outsiders in their previous tilts.
“It’s been a while since we last spoke, how fare you? I believe congratulations are in order for your captaincy! Twice now you’ve ridden Fireball down!”

Roland clenched a fist in salute, recognising the compliment. "There's definitely something in the water." "It has raised your father up and men like Longthorn. This is quite the way to announce yourself among the Reach's finest knights, and if a man is among the Reach's best, then he is among the Realm's best." D8 Titus - Knowledge: 3d6 5"Spear-Thistle is what my our wet nurse at Hammerhal used to call one type of briar. It had some grander name in High Valyrian, but it eludes me for the moment. Doubtless one of the great bastards could educate me." "But we can hope the small folk take to Speak-Thistle better than High Valyrian. You've earned the title this week." Hugh Blackwood was scrubbing Roland's armour, so the knight offered his own assitance with Ser Titus's dismounting and armour removal.

Ser Donnel adds his voice to the commendations of his son: "Undoubtedly your hard work by the Mander has paid off! For it is certain that the strength present in your arms takes hard work and dedication! It gives me great pleasure to see that we have both advanced to this point." Ser Donnel is clearly proud of his son, but he soon enough remembers his manners, and congratulate Ser Roland as well: "You have ridden well, too Ser Roland, in all your tilts, you have won with the exhubrance off youth! And now you have been made a captain too. It is well done!"

Whilst the gathered three had all secured a place amongst the final eight few could boast having done so against opponents such as Breakspear and The Stormbreaker, all in the same day none the less. Donnel's praise had always been worth the world for Titus but today more so than ever. To think that he soon would be leaving his father and family home.
Soon. But not yet.
Dismissing such thoughts for now he returns "Ser Roland is attempting to honour me with a monicker, father. Although today you've brought two men worthy of such low in the tilts!"

Roland bowed to Ser Donnel.
"I have not faced the fearsome list of opponents you were drawn against. I suspect our tourney master wishes to see the strongest of the King's loyal friends face each other, thinning their ranks."
"Still, a most holy result - winning on the seventh pass of the seven round. Something for the singers to work with there."
Roland turned to Titus.
"I would honour you further if you are willing. I need skilled, true hearted knights to stand beside me and your father in the melee."
"It is a chance to fight alongside knights like the wild Ser Wyl Waynwood and Lord Tyrell's own captain of the guard, the war hero Ser Damon Crane. You have proven your prowess with the blade already during the tourney."
Roland turned back to Ser Donnel.
"Your ransoms may provide a chance to grow our ranks yet further. Meeting with Prince Baelor himself is normally nigh impossible, but he or a squire should receive you for the ransom. It would be an honour to the whole team if he could be prevailed upon to join our ranks."

"Fortunate indeed! The gods has been with me, clearly, to let me pass such opposition! Both mt last rounds have been against superior opposition! I hope Titus, in time, will reach to the skill of the prince!" Ser Donnel looks at his son with pride.
"I will talk to the prince! I hope he wishes to participate, but I am afraid he might think the risks outweigh the benefits here! Perhaps the knowledge that he fights next to the fearsome Ser Roland will alleviate his fears?" Ser Donnel winks to the knight that have proven so successful.

“You do honour me indeed with such an offer, Ser Roland. However...” he hesitates for moment, glancing at his father, seemingly finding what comes next a tad akward. “The Lady Daena Flowers, who’s favour I carry have asked of me to join another team... perhaps.” He straightens, shifts his weight from one for to another and then back again, clearly not comfortable with the topic. “Tomorrow will be clearer!” Throwing his hands up he tries to change the topic “but such a prestigious collection of knights! Your deeds serve you well, Ser!” Smiling, if a bit too much he again glances at his father. Hoping to have escaped any further questions regarding the Lady Daena.

Mayhap the lad fears being under his father's shadows?
"So be it Ser Titus, although a word of caution. A day ago I would have had a sporting attitude to the melee, regarding it a chance to cross swords with champions and practice. Better still bearing a maiden's favour, to act the gallant knight errant."
"Given all that has occurred here - assaults, kidnappings and poisonings - I beg you to think hard on your captain and team members. My view of the world is darker now, and worse still it saddens me that I see thinks more clearly now because of this darkness, rather than in spite of it."
Lord Durwell was well known as a man with a foot in both camps and a cunning politician, so perhaps he had guided his bastard sister on this matter.
"Many here openly agitate against the King, and a space alongside me shall await you if need be."

"A magnanimous offer indeed." Ser Donnel agrees. "And one to be carefully considered! But the world is only dark for those not enlightened by the Seven, and the warrior favours the way of the bold. A decision made of fear will serve nobody but the others. As long as your choice is true to your heart, your worry should be small." Ser Donnel ensures his son.
"I have found that nothing beffudles your mind like a few lanceblows, perchamce we should retire to think strategy, and we will have a planned cause of action tomorrow?"
[Ser Donnel would love to have a longwinded debate over chivalry vs strategy, but I am not sure if we should let that wait for D9?]

"Well said Ser Donnel. I shall extend an invitation to our knights and lieutenants to gather tomorrow evening, to better plan our tactics."
The old knight had shown the benefits of experience in the reenactment, the man was worth listening to.
A cruel fate, for such a skilled, wise and devout knight to have a murderous braggart for an elder son and a true knight for his second.
"Warrior guide your arms," offered Roland by way of parting, saluting both men with a raised fist.
[OOC: good idea, makes sense as we're moving to D9 soonish and this will give us a good scene!
/scene for my part beyond any parting words]
