It is perhaps no coincidence that Lord Tyrell has chosen to set his tourney at the time he has chosen, an ancient Gardener tradition of a dance under the full moon marking the memory of King Garth the Gardener, according to legend, it was a custom invented by Garth Greenhands himself. Maids should have flowers in their hair and be attired in sleeveless white gowns with skirts not reaching below the knee. Much to the consternation of septons, audacity is encouraged, with low cuts and hemlines much further above the knee than is proper and fabrics so thin that the shadows of the shapes underneath can be made out in the light of the lanterns worn by a few, one might also suspect that some ladies are simply wearing smallclothes or nightgowns. Most ladies, however, follow the example of Lady Amerei Tyrell with skirts as long as custom allows, and a high cut, although to show off the wealth of House Tyrell, her silken fabric have been studded with gems and precious stones, expertly positioned to glitter in the light and draw gazes to tantalizing places.
Men are supposed to wear green upon their torso's, though not necessarily as the main color, Ser Preston Oakheart wears a tunic of golden silk with the three green leaves of his house embroidered upon it, others have done something similar as Ser Darren Crane who has exchanged the light blue background of his sigil with green. Many simply choses green doublets with no such thing. Most have half-capes in the color of their house, the fastening pins and belt buckles the only jewelry deemed proper for the occasion. Loose fitting breeches, the better to move around in, are the style of the evening, while some believe that bare feet are most in line with the ancient style, soft shoes are preferred.
Restrictions: Only unmarried nobles may partake (Those who are betrothed to another, widowed with children or past marriageable age are discouraged from partaking, squires and girls not yet having flowered are deemed too young), though most ladies have a chaperone to observe from the archways, and other interested parties are also present to see who might be dancing with whom.
In order to be allowed onto the grass, one must succeed on a status(reputation)+chivalry/virtue TN 12. There is not room for all who wishes to partake, and the number of gentlemen must be equal to the number of ladies.
When considering attire, a lady is assumed to follow the more conservative example of Lady Amerei Tyrell, however she may opt for daring (+2), audacious (+4) or scandalous (+8), gaining the associated modifier to Seduction tests and half to status and charm tests and disposition increases during this event and associated intrigue. Opting for scandalous costs -1 virtue. The world will take note and NPC's will react and comment, any rumors targeted at such a lady for her perceived promiscuity spread during the day of the event or the day after receives twice the bonus to the test.
Step 1: Dancing Partners.
By custom, it is the men who must bid a lady to dance, but as the music ends, there will be a change of partners, there will be several changes of partners, most of them fairly impromptu, but the longest dances are preceded by a more formalized procedure, for this event you may make up to three attempts at initiating a noteworthy dancing experience with a target of your choice and the chance to influence them. This need not be the dancing partners your character would most like to impress, it is about impacting the story. Failing to initiating such a dance does not necessarily mean that you failed to dance with them, merely that if you so did, you failed to make the impact that an intrigue could. It can generally be assumed that you did manage to dance with your designated targets sometime during the night.
During the formal selection, gentlemen will stand to one side, ladies to the other, then gentlemen approaches to bid ladies up to dance. While there is no enforced hierarchy, custom is that the most prominent goes first, breaking this makes one prone to embarrassment of being turned down, among other things.
Formalized selection:
Gentlemen may attempt the following tests:
Optional Awareness: (Empathy or Notice) TN 12, gain +1 to the next two tests for each DoS scored, critical failure: -2 instead. Persuasion (Charm or Seduce)+Chivalry Status(Breeding or Reputation)+Chivalry
Both tests are against the intrigue defense+virtue of the lady sought, the TN's of an attractive lady is at +3. You must succeed on both tests to secure the partner you aim for..
Ladies must test: Awareness(Notice) TN 12 Persuasion(Seduction) against his Intrigue Defense+Chivalry. Status(Reputation)+Virtue against his passive Status(Breeding)+Chivalry.
The TN of Persuasion and status against an attractive gentleman are at +3.
Impromptu Selection: Awareness(Notice) TN 12
Special: -The attractive quality grants +1D on Persuasion and Status tests when seeking out partners (applies for both gentlemen and ladies). -Certain NPC's may be easier or more difficult to be able to secure a dance with, at narrator discretion, previous interaction and disposition changes plays a part. -Ladies automatically succeed in dancing with those having gained their favor/honor, while knights automatically succeed in dancing with those whose favor/honor they received. -All TN's in the formalized selections are +3 for tests made by betrothed and widowed, while all tests to seek them out is at -3 TN. -Graceful applies +1D to everything during this step.
Step 2: Intrigue.
Successfully securing the designated partner grants you the opportunity to engage in intrigue, if secured through the formalized selection, full intrigue will be granted. During a full intrigue, you gain the effects of your choice of Compelling (Charm) and Compelling (Seduce). If secured through impromptu selection, you may engage in simple intrigue, if choosing charm or seduce techniques, you will achieve disposition results as per standard intrigue results (capped by the DoS on the test), but other effects will not be observed (the disposition effect of a partner successfully intrigued with seduce is such that it should make them inclined for meeting again, however).
You may only initiate intrigue with one partner.
Step 3: Beware the nice ones.
Any character taking part in this event will find themselves at risk of being at the receiving end of the machinations of others, NPC's will initiate intrigue against participating characters to the extent allowed by narrator ideas and capacity. Players are free to suggest what might be fun.

Haha, hahaha, bwahahahahahaha One of Balon's gifts was his charm. It seemed like an odd thing to say considering his actions at Highgarden but it was true. Perhaps that was in part what explained his personality and actions. His outbursts and antics were followed by a disarming smile, kind words, and a seemingly sincere act of contrition that got him out of the worst punishments. Balon used his charm like a weapon and tonight it was honed and ready. The dance's dress requirements were known to Balon and he dressed accordingly though his attire was not as expensive as others. He wore a fitted green tunic with the Blackbriar sigil in gold sewn onto his left breast. His loose fitting breeches matched the color of his sigil and soft leather shoes completed the look. The adventures of the day had made him dirty and sweaty and he'd spent considerable time in Highgarden's baths. He even hired a barber to trim his hair and goatee. The first woman he approached he did so not out of lust or desire, but regret. Lady Denyse's name had been sullied and while he'd tried to uncover who'd lied about her he had failed miserably. On top of that he'd grossly misjudged her contempt of Ashara. If Denyse did feel the same way about Ashara she was smart enough to not share her thoughts or condone Balon's confrontation. As he approached her with a smile she scowled. It's as if she's shooting valyrian steel-tipped arrows at me from her eyes... dipped in poison.... and on fire. Better not to provoke her wrath. Her mother and Ser Normyn had already been pushed in the right direction. No point in ruining that. Balon regrouped and moved towards Lady Perianne, the daughter of Lord Middlebury. If any woman here shared Balon's contempt of Dorne, it'd most likely be her. Their dance was graceful, Balon used the footwork he'd learned in the training yard to maximum effect. He stared into her doe-like eyes and commented on her beauty. It seemed as soon as their dance had started it was already over. He bowed deeply to her and thanked her for the privilege. As he looked about there was one woman in particular that caught his eye. A young maid that was simply stunning to behold. Her hair was perfectly coiffed, her lips pouty and inviting, and even at a distance, enchanting blue eyes. Lady Sybelle Oakheart. He approached and even though she seemed hesitant she accepted his invitation to dance.

While he had been rebuffed by Lady Orme's guards earlier that day, Roland's deeds at the tournament and unmarried status won him entry to the dance. He was not a wealthy knight, so he had not prepared a green doublet with Starling or Cordwayner badge as some great lords had, even if his tournament success meant he could now fund finer garb for future events, given adequate time. Still, he was keen to respect tradition, and wore a simple green tunic and hose, but with his overtight hair shirt beneath. He swept Lady Janna Hightower across the floor, choosing to seek her out in a less formal fashion than their previous encounters. She was better born than Roland, but young and beautiful, even if their difference in height struck some as odd as they danced. Honour did not always restrict a man from ambition, sometimes it compelled him to it. Despite the trials of the tournament, Roland was briefly transformed in to the gallant knight errant from the stories he wanted to be, as her company had the same inspiring presence at the Dance as it did on the tourney field. Her company made words come to his tongue more easily and the world feel lighter. Fate or politics may let take a part in who else took Roland's hand in the dance. Even as but a mere sworn sword his melee captaincy and rescue of Lady Alicent may have brought him to the attention of players of the game of thrones. Here was a rarity in the Reach - a knight of great prowess who had not yet declared himself as Ser Aegor River's or Ser Daemon Blackfyre's man. He also sought out Lady Arya Flowers and Lady Alicent Yronwood, the for Automatically succeeds at securing impromptu dance as bearing Lady Janna's favour. Ladies Sybelle and Perianne are quite willing to dance with Balon, if perhaps slightly cautious considering his reputation, but Lady Denyse gives him an icy rejection that would make most young men hope that the ground might swallow them whole to shield them from such an indignity. Status: 2d6 5However much Roland's eyes searches for her, Lady Arya Flowers is not present, whether her low birth prevented her from partaking, her father did not want her to or she had no interest in the dance is unknown. Lady Alicent is most delighted with the chance to dance with Ser Roland.

Lady Janna, half child, half woman, has opted for caution in attire, a white gown of opaque enough fabric that no hint of what's beneath is given, hem going to just above the knee and the fabric reaching all the way to a collar studded with sparkling stones around her neck, but her shoulders and arms are left bare, and her slim waist is clearly accentuated. As before, she has the color of flames in her hair, though now it is a multitude of flower petals attached to a delicate net, almost invisible in the light from the moon and lanterns.
She clearly has a good time, though the expression of her eyes seems to have grown as many years as there have been days since their encounter on the steps of the sept. She does remain in high spirits, and confesses that she would really like to be bold and creative like Ladies Ysilla and Alicent and get back at the wicked little imp. But she is at loss for both the courage and ideas required to properly repay his mischief in kind.
+1 disposition indeed

Cleyton waits for the more renown personalities to take their place and select their partners, before confidently stepping forward to seek Lady Tanselle. By the time Cleyton found her and looked towards the garden he could tell by the looks of the guards restricting the access would make it impossible for them to move out, but that did not stop Cleyton to sweep the floor with Tanselle as best his could while getting to know her better in a rather entertaining evening. Dancing Under the Moon - Status (Reputation)+Chiv v TN12: 4d6k3+6 14 - Success
Always having been more at home on the training ground, wearing armour than at balls wearing finery Titus might have tried to avoid the Moonlight Dance. However Lady Shiera had from long before made clear that was not going to happen. Finding a marriage for Titus might not have been as much of a priority as Balon but this opportunity was not to be missed. And who knows, he might even end up enjoying himself. The truth was that Titus had little to worry on this occasions. He was a decent enough dancer, by now a knight of some fame and not horrible to look at. Definitely better looking than Balon, that thing was certain. Wearing a vibrant green doublet and breeches with gloves, boots and a half-cape in a deeper moss, the golden horseman of his house serving as a fastening pin Titus does indeed find himself enjoying himself immensely, the last few days struggles feel like a bad dream as he spend the evening dancing and conversing. The first partner he seeks out is Lady Daena Flower, the young silver-haired beauty who's favour he has carried but he also find himself dancing with Tanda Peake and Ysilla Flowers - two ladies who all raised more than an eyebrow at the tournament. [OOC: Will add more fluff when I see how rolls go against their TNs etc]

Unfortunately, it appears that a simple knight from the North cannot be allowed onto the grass at the expense of more esteemed knights of the Reach.
Lady Daena is happy to dance with Titus, she picks up her teasing and high spirits from where they left off in the morning, leaving him to wonder if she means anything by it, or merely because she finds it amusing. It would seem as if the Great Bastards defies every expectation, every norm and every limit that might restrict others.
Every time as Titus makes the attempt, there is always someone of higher birth ahead of him in the line eager to court the beautiful daughter of Lord Peake, no matter how she only has eyes for Lord Marq Durwell and surely would have preferred to have him to herself and never share. Certainly not to that slutty little trollop, covered in such false modesty as surely came at a higher price than her proper worth would be at the Perfumed Lady where she belongs.
Though few of his peers can count themselves so fortunate as to dance with two Great Bastards where most must content themselves with the dream of just one. And to dance with Lady Ysilla is to hold the hand of a whirlwind of life and joy, easily wearing ten times as much of both on her face as he can remember any woman of ever showing. It is also exhausting to keep up with her pace, not even the hardest combat drill that Donnel ever put him through was half so tiresome.

Post by Daeron Wildfyre on Oct 18, 2018 14:30:31 GMT 1
Given his behavior earlier in the day, many suspected that Ser Daeron might not be attending the dance or would even be turned away if he showed up. However, one does not simply turn away a Great Bastard, nor did his actions compare with some of the more shocking events of the tournament. Therefore few were actually surprised to see him, clad in Velaryon sea-green, show up barefoot and ready to dance, his temper clearly calmed from earlier. On the Green his moves were practiced and proper as should be expected of someone growing up at Driftmark, even if they lacked the grace that dancers such as Lady Ashara possessed. When it was time for a formal dance he made his way over to Shiera Woodwright, the lady whose favor he had carried so far through the tournament. "My lady thank you for giving me the honor of carrying your favor in this tournament, I feel that I should return this now." He offers her back the ribbon that she had given him days ago. "Or perhaps I save it for next time and see if I can't take it all the way." he says impishly. As the dance carries on the gears in his brain begin to turn in a more political motion. He would have to marry eventually and now was the best time to make himself known and desired to the eligible unwed here, especially the ones who might have more say in who they might wish to marry. At the next dance he slides on over to Gwynesse Grimm, head of her house and needing of a lord protector. Although he might not be a Redtusk or Lord Durwell, his heritage and exploits thus far in the week made him a known factor in the Reach, or at least for the time being. His last dance brought him to Lady Joanna Peake, heir to Whitegrove and a natural beauty in her own right. Although she might not have been as desirable as Lady Tanda, Daeron knew that he had few real opportunities to marry her, Great Bastard or not. Having his own seat, even if it was just one of the holdings of House Peake, would be more than a prize for him. "Ser does not want to keep it, as a memory? Shiera replies in a friendly tone, commenting upon his unorthodox style of winning jousts. Gwynesse Grimm wears her politeness on like a glove, though effortlessly, without offending, without even saying a word about the matter, her courteous deflections and detached manners tells him everything he needs to know about his chances of becoming her lord protector. They simply do not exist.
Lady Joanna appears to have decided against partaking in the dance.
With those rolls, you could narratively get to dance with whoever you please since you use your intrigue on Shiera Woodright (+1 disposition there)

Ashara certainly got some looks for even showing up, but she didn't really care - she only had so many opportunities to show off her dancing, and as far as she was concerned she wasn't really betrothed anyway. If only everybody else saw it that way, too. She got a few more looks when she removed her cloak and revealed her dress. Some were approving, some disapproving, and some outright lecherous. She was not dressed quite as brazenly as Alicent Yronwood, but far moreso than Amerei Tyrell and Janna Hightower to be sure. A piece considered daring in Sunspear, here in the Reach it was just shy of scandalous. Her dress was two parts, a wide scarf-like piece of opaque white silk was wrapped around her chest, covering her breasts to an extent that no Septon could complain about, but left her neck, shoulders, and midriff completely bare, her athletically toned abdomen visible to all. The cloth was tied behind her back and the ends hung down her back to below her waist like long, slender wings. Her skirt was of the same opaque white silk, and sat low on her hips and extended to a few inches above the knee - certainly not as short as many others, but Ashara liked to spin and certainly knew that when she did so the effective hemline was a fair bit higher up. In addition to the the cut, much of the effect was from the sharp contrast between the pure unblemished white silk contrasted sharply and appealingly with her dusky skin. An effect that no pure Andal lady could hope to match. Probably need to make a few assumptions as to what will happen with Lord Reynald between manhunt and now. Second choice will be Perianne.
The day had been long and brutal. His body screamed for rest, but appearances need to be maintained. Addam was dress in a light green and white doublet with a matching half cloak draped over his right shoulder to hide the sling his arm was in. He half expected to be placed towards the back of the men's line, he was surprised to find himself ushered towards the front. Far enough behind as to not offend the major heirs but certainly farther up then his station would normally allow. For the first Formal dance he chose Lady Perianne. She had granted him her favor, but the events of the tourney had keep Addam from getting to know her better. Bowing as low as he could tolerate the pain, "I beg for My Lady's forgiveness. Her favor certainly deserved better then round 4." At the next opportunity Addam sought out Ellyn Levalle. This had been the dance he looked forward to the most all week. She had chosen Ser Robyn Rhysling over him to wear her favor, and he wasn't going to let her forget it. Asking her question such as how brave Ser Robyn did in joust, which side he was an officer for, which team he would be a lieutenant for, and his whereabouts during the rescue of Ser Aladore. As the night drew to an end, Addam sought out Alicent Florent. The daughter of Lord Reynald hadn't crossed him mind the previous days, but recent events changed that. Addam had always harbored dreams of eventually leaving Kingbridge and maybe, just maybe this was his chance. A man can always dream.

To contest the attention of Ser Brynden Rivers is difficult, there are many who would want his attention, but the trick is to find the right timing as he himself must seek the right timing to approach the Seastar, or perhaps he is timing it perfectly to snub his half-brother Aegor of the same pleasure, it certainly looks that way, and if so he succeeded. It wasn't easy, and Ashara almost thought she had failed, but somehow, she succeeds anyway, to sneers of derision among proper Andal ladies dressed properly.
Addam finds both Ellyn and Alicent more than willing to dance with him, Ellyn does not very much like the needling over her choice, while Alicent is much overjoyed by the safe return of her brother.

[D8] Dancing Under the Moon - Impromptu Selection - Awareness TN 12: 3d6 7
It had been a chaotic day and he only expected more of the same until returning to Starkwood lands. Mikel made the decision to partake in the dance not for any particular love of dancing but instead to simply be a part of it. When he began dancing he was not looking for any particular lady, but any woman who appeared attractive in the moonlight. On top of a lack of excitement for the event itself Mikel could not stop thinking that this was just one more opportunity for somebody else to be poisoned or abducted. He did his best to remain vigilant, even at the expense of proper social conduct, and especially to keep his eyes on any others from House Starkwood who were here enjoying the event.
[OOC: Mikel will default to finding/dancing with Ysilla when opportunity allows]
