Scorpionbane 7SM, Status (Reputation) + Chivalry TN?: 3d6+3 16Time: Before Ser Lambert Scorpionbane's loss in the joust to Ser Parmen Redwyne Balon left the Blackbriar encampment with a lot on his mind. The duel with Titus and Lord Leo's required permission to proceed. Septon Abelar and his arrogance. His mother's scolding and counsel. Father and the continued growing distance between them. He needed to find a potential friend. A comrade in arms that shared his views. He made his way to the Middlebury pavilions. Upon inquiry Balon discovered Lord Gareth was at Highgarden in one of its many halls. The trek didn't take terribly long but finding the right hall took longer than Balon cared for. When he entered he understood why Lord Gareth has chosen it. Several murals and banners hung from the walls celebrating an ancient victory over the Dornish. The painting Gareth stood in front of depicted a Reachman cavalry charge into a disorganized mass of Dornish soldiers. I wonder if that's what actually happened. Balon thought to himself. Balon approached Gareth and stopped a respectful distance away as he announced himself, "Lord Gareth, my name is Ser Balon Blackbriar and I was hoping to have a moment of your time." Up to you if Scorpionbane is here or not.

"No need to introduce yourself, ser. Everyone knows the face of the knight that hastened Ser Walton's passage into the seven hells where all his kind belongs!" Apparently there is at least one lord that approves of his actions. "They should have given you a cask of the finest Arbor Gold, not a match against Lord Durwell's butcher"

Balon had a wide smile on his face when he received the compliment, "Thank you my lord. When Ser Walton looks up he'll see me toasting to his untimely death." there was a large amount of mockery in the word untimely. Balon shrugged in reference to the match between him and Manfryd Grimm, "Lord Durwell curries favor from both sides and used Ser Manfryd to that end." Balon subconsciously rubbed his face thinking about the scar Manfryd was known to have. "I wonder if it ever bothers Ser Manfryd," Balon looked up to the painting, "to have such a nasty reminder of what the Dornish did to him only to see the same scum invade King's Landing. But instead of being thrown from the walls they're embraced by the King and his court." Balon pointed to the painting, "This. This is what we need to go back to. Bringing Dorne to heel with fire and sword. Not that sham of an agreement Lord Rowan made." he tsk'd in disgust. "And now they bring their harlots into the Reach. Poisoning noble houses with their filthy blood."
"My congratulations to you and your champion, my lord. To see the great Scorpionbane advance this far into the joust brings joy to my heart." And the Balon asked the question he came to ask, "I can't wait to see him in the melee. Tell me my lord, which Captain would be lucky enough to have your champion on his team?"

"I rather doubt Lord Marq would want to see Ser Manfryd face you this early in the tournament, you kill a man in the joust and you can expect to face opponents like him, skilled enough to make accidents extremely unlikely, tough enough to survive if they happen anyways" Lord Gareth doesn't believe any such theories, everyone had told Balon they expected a draw in that match. "If he wanted to play both sides like that, he'd face you himself and added that helmet of yours to his collection."
"I am not sure, Lord Walgrave and I, well, Ser Lambert will be acting on my behalf, had a mind to see if we couldn't beat us up a Dornishman, or one of the half-breeds like Ser Desmond Bridges. Lord Walgrave said he would find us a team where this might be most likely to be done. We had in fact thought to recruit you to our little cause, ser, but we figured Lord Gormon has other intentions."

"If he wanted to play both sides like that, he'd face you himself and added that helmet of yours to his collection." Balon had blamed Lord Marq for his early exit but the truth was he could blame no one but himself. In his anger he'd created a conspiracy that the joust with Ser Manfryd was a consequence of Walton's death but hearing Lord Gareth claim Marq would've jousted him if it had been political gave Balon a fresh perspective. He relented, "Of course my lord. That makes more sense.""I am not sure, Lord Walgrave and I, well, Ser Lambert will be acting on my behalf, had a mind to see if we couldn't beat us up a Dornishman, or one of the half-breeds like Ser Desmond Bridges. If there were any lords in the Reach that shared Balon's hatred of Dorne it was Lords Walgrave and Gareth. "I'm sure Lord Gormon has other intentions but that doesn't mean we can't also beat up half-breeds and their sympathizers. Do you know of House Starkwood?"

"Lord Brandon the sycophant, anyone that has lived through a few winters know of him" Gareth holds a very low opinion of him. "Offering up his own kin to be ravaged by the king, built that monstrosity of a sept which could fit every man, woman and child ever to have lived in those forests just to impress Baelor the Befuddled, and had his own son married to a Dornish Whore, leftovers from the royal table I hear. He chuckles at the summary. "Mostly keeps to themselves and it's not hard to see why, but a couple of Great Bastard and this daughter that apparently have been off exploring"

"Lord Ulbert is no better. His heir has been poisoned with Dornish blood and his daughter is a liar and trollop." Balon didn't comment on Laena or Aerion as he respected the latter and was fond of the former. "Did you know Lord Ulbert's daughter accused me of assaulting her?" Balon shook his head in disbelief. "It's bad enough to to hear her say such horrible things about my kin and Fireball but to claim I shoved her to the ground? Preposterous." Even though he was in the company of a sympathizer he made sure not to go too far. "When her barbs didn't work she slapped me knowing I would never retaliate against her." Balon smiled, "That doesn't mean I can't punish her father or brother if they're foolish enough to enter the melee."
"Tell me, my lord. Would there be anything more satisfying than punishing any fool that fought on behalf of House Starkwood?"

"There was at least contact between you two, and she fell, no?" Gareth shrugs. "What did you expect? That she'd bend over for you to ram her from behind?"
"Lord Ulbert did not marry a Dornish on his own volition, it is not his fault, and if you have seen Allyria, well, show me a man that wouldn't want to bed her and you have found yourself a bugger"

"There was at least contact between you two, and she fell, no?" Gareth shrugs. "What did you expect? That she'd bend over for you to ram her from behind?" Balon snorted, "Please. A butterfly would've struck her harder than I did." That wasn't exactly true but he knew what Gareth was alluding to. "And while most Dornish ladies stick their ass in the air like a bitch in heat I," Balon actually laughed at the mental image, "doubt she'd do that. Especially for me." Balon found Ashara pretty, only a fool wouldn't, but it was her personality that made her unattractive to Balon. "Lord Ulbert did not marry a Dornish on his own volition, it is not his fault, and if you have seen Allyria, well, show me a man that wouldn't want to bed her and you have found yourself a bugger" "I won't deny her beauty but I prefer a good Andal woman, a woman of the Reach. That is what I find to be truly beautiful." Balon looked to change the subject away from the Starkwoods now that he knew Ser Lambert would (probably) be fighting on one of the teams. "How are your children?" Balon knew of his daughter's beauty but found it wise to not bring it up. I don't know if Gareth has more children besides Perianne. Will edit accordingly.

"Well, maybe if you are Marq Durwell they will, we had to hold them down and take our pleasure every time" He dismisses that notion, as if Balon is a child with childish ideas. "Our common girls knows their place, they will cringe, whimper and plead, but they will not resist their betters, the Dornish? The Dornish will kick and bite and try and claw your eyes out, you must break them like a wild horse.
"They are growing up to give their father a new set of headaches, and here I thought they would grow out of it" It is said in a jesting manner.
She isn't noted as his heir, meaning he has at least one son, but I'm not listing everyone on the periphery.

The Dornish will kick and bite and try and claw your eyes out, you must break them like a wild horse. Balon laughed and nodded in acknowledgement but didn't comment. As an individual Balon had no desire to rape smallfolk regardless of where they were from but that didn't mean he'd stop it either. Why stop soldiers from doing so when they sacked a town or castle? Lowborn didn't receive the same privileges as the nobility and to deny them one of their few rewards was foolish. Balon thought for a moment. Would I rape some poor girl just because I wanted to? I'd be no better than that fat sack of shit Lord Merryweather. Would I use it as a weapon? Punishment? Balon dismissed the line of thought and hoped he never had to find out. "They are growing up to give their father a new set of headaches, and here I thought they would grow out of it" It is said in a jesting manner." "Children have a tendency to do that." I'd know. Balon smiled, "What I know is with you as a father they'll be sure to succeed in life." That was enough ass kissing for one day. "I won't take up anymore of your time today my lord and if Lord Gormon has no need of me I'd be honored to fight with Ser Lambert and Lord Walgrave. I forsee more accolades brought to House Middlebury after the melee is over."
I don't have anything else. Unless he has something.
