Ser Aerion Baratheon and Lord Leo Tyrell promises to be the most high profile matchup so far this tourney, they clash mightily on the first pass, delivering blows that might have felled most other knights in this company, on the second pass Lord Tyrell appears to take the victory as Ser Aerion's lance misses cleanly, however much expertly he withstands Lord Tyrell's heavy strike. On the third tilt however, he shows exactly why he has been named Stormbreaker since the Conquest of Dorne, he stands up in his stirrups and delivers a blow of such massive brutality that his lance doesn't just break, it shatters into many many pieces and even though Lord Tyrell expected this assault, even the man counted as the best jouster in the Reach (and thus all of Westeros as far as the Reachmen are concerned) fails to endure it. Lord Karl Willum offers up an extremely valiant effort against Ser Tywin Lannister, but the older knight is more skilled and more experienced and patiently weathers the young lords assaults until he finds the required opening to unseat his foe. At first it seems that Ser Vardis may repeat the impossible as he faces Ser Manfryd Grimm, enthusiastically delivering solid strike upon solid strike and gaining the upper hand in the first three rounds, but Ser Manfryd decides to drop his conservative stance, Lord Durwell observing that his sworn sword first planned to see if he could play it safe and see if his opponent might get too bold, then he decided to play for real and Ser Vardis is slammed off his horse immediately. Ser Tommard Heddle tilts five times against Ser Theomore Bulwer before he unseats the Gray Ox Ser Laenor Peake opens with a clean miss against Lord Pearce Caron and puts up a heroic and risky effort in the next two tilts in a hope to claw back victory by unhorsing his opponent, but to little avail and Lord Pearce is victorious. Ser Humfrey Harding unhorses Ser Olyvar Crane on the first tilt. Ser Jasper Flowers employs brazen tactics against Ser Willem Wylde, but the superior horsemanship of the white brother blunts his attack and sends the bastard flying. Ser Arlan Green expertly unhorses Ser Damon Crane in the first pass, what promised to be a tight match turned out to be short. In much the same fashion Ser Willas Tyrell brings Ser Mark Edgerton off his seat, but less due to his own skill than his opponent's reckless riding, though sometimes one must take a gamble to defeat a favorite, and when one gambles, one sometimes lose. Ser Preston Oakheart also dispatches Ser Addam Darklyn in the first pass, a strong showing from both men, with Ser Preston clearly the stronger. Nine passes is needed to separate Ser Quentin Cordwayner and Ser Garth Durwell, where Ser Addam and Ser Mark failed with their bids, Ser Garth is well served by his risky tactic, but Ser Quentin proves himself the better jouster as he shifts to a much more aggressive tactic, bringing Ser Addam on the defensive and forcing a clean miss in the seventh tilt, and nine broken lances to eight wins the match. Ser Aemon Flowers makes short work of Ser Gyles Blount, though he tried for something slightly more spectacular, the great bastard lands a strike more than capable of unhorsing his foe. Lord Manfred Lothston against Lord Randyll Ashford is an even match with nothing to separate the two in the first three rounds, but then Lord Randyll misses cleanly on both rounds 4 and 5, eliminating him. Ser Malcolm Caswell easily unseats Ser Roland Pommingham on the first tilt. Lord Marlon Manderly and Ser Robyn Rhysling needs six rounds in a hard fought match before the Northern knight unseats his opponent. A lesser upset sees Ser Kevan Stackhouse unhorsed by Ser Roland Vyrwel. The Knight of Hammers rides to a draw against Ser Edmyn Norcross, the brave heir to Scarwood raises his sword and at first it seems he might have a chance against his big opponent, but where he mostly seemed to match the first set of blows, when the Knight of Hammers again regains initiative he strikes a blow so brutal and so well placed that the blade buries itself deep into Ser Edmyn's neck and he goes limp immediately, for a moment that seems to drag on forever, his body slides sickeningly off the blade and to the ground, blood gushing from the wound. The fourth round is where the list of eliminated jousters starts to have many knights of quality on it, among them can be found:
Ser Benjen Willum Lord Jaime Fossoway Ser Willem Dayne Ser Marq Hollard Ser Clarent Peake Ser Dagos Manwoody Ser Galladon Lowther Ser Loras Durwell Ser Damon Butterwell Ser Randyll Peake Ser Tanton Fossoway Ser Rufus Rykker Ser Qhorin Rowan
Ser Leo Shermer and Ser Jon Westbrook are also eliminated, but they were widely considered to be lucky to have gone so far as he did, Ser Jon still managed to joust to a tie against Lord Bryce Bridges, but lost out to the old legend when it came down to swords.
Ser Damon Peake unexpectly must resort to swords to defeat Ser Jon Florent, but prevails in the end.
Nothing, neither skill, nor luck can separate Ser Gwayne Meadows and Ser Flement Redwyne throughout all nine rounds, both misses with one lance each, so it is down to swords where Ser Flement ultimately breaks the tie.

Ser Aladale Levalle lasts for two rounds against Ser Daemon Blackfyre, though he only breaks his first lance, but he does manage to keep his saddle twice. He yields after Ser Daemon removes his helm. Ser Edwyn Osgrey matches Ser Aerion Flowers in the first tilt, but fares less well on the second pass and is unhorsed, a valiant effort, but not quite good enough to threaten the Great Bastard.
