Mikel continues his ritual by waking as late as he can and dealing with the headache he has yet to become accustomed to though which has lost some if it's intensity over the past three nights of rest. Even so he still relied on the milk of the poppy to perform well. After some light drills he breaks his fast and see's to his horse. Once his squire helps him into his armor he warms his horse with some light riding then some runs at the quatain. By the time his round was to begin Mikel was in the correct frame of mind and was physically prepared, as was his horse.
[OOC:Early declaration, Mikel will be using Heightened Stakes, Noble, and Braced to begin]

Lord Conklyn rode a solid first pass - it would take a fine blow to knock him on his conk! All the other squires may have mocked his surname when they were young, but few of them would have made it to the fourth round in such valiant company. Since Heightened Stakes must be declared before rolls are made, he does react with it on round one.

Mikel returns the salute and touches his spurs into his horse hard enough to send it into a gallop. He picks his place and drops his lance, hoping to look back as he turns and see Lord Edmyn Conklyn squirming to his feet, his horse waiting for him at the end of the lists.
[OOC: Mikel will use the same tactics on his next round against Lord Edmyn Conklyn]

Lord Conklyn knew was likely behind in the judge's reckoning, but did not exert himself fully quite yet. Still, a man trained by the great Ser Quentyn Ball could be expected to fight fiercely right to the last. Even if the match did not fall his way, he could at least return his beautiful lady wife that evening in one piece! As a noted supporter of Ser Daemon Blackfyre, it was clear Lord Conklyn had both fans and detractors in the crowd against his lowly born opponent. D7 R4 P1 Noble, Braced;SiS;CyB: 5d6k3+2 16 6d6k4 14 4d6 13 - should say P2- 1 DoS, both knights retain their seats PR: 18 Health: 12/12 AR: 10 [OOC: narrator, let me know if he adjusts approach in P3 to try to claw back being behind]

Hmm, it doesn't look too well for Mikel however, with HS the TN to SiS is 13, conklyn gets 17 due to +3, just 1 DoS of difference isn't enough to bother with for now.

[OOC: Good point, I forgot about that. May well prompt destiny spend from Ser Mikel. Minor extra note: I mislabelled the second pass, says P1 when it should say P2.]

Mikel saw his lance hit and felt it shatter then noticed that his horse was moving forward faster then he was. He squeezed his thighs together as he dropped the broken lance and groped for the reins, his saddle, his horses mane, anything.
And yet his horse continued on, and he made his way roughly to the ground. After bouncing twice he managed to begin rolling - purely from conditioning having taken over - until the momentum was used up.
He pushed himself to his feet and looked around until he saw Lord Conklyn, the bouncing and rolling having disoriented him, and gave a slight bow in his direction as respect for what was the most gentle unhorsing of Mikel's life.
His squire had taken control of Mikel's horse and so Mikel simply walked back to where he came onto the field and exited, fighting back a wave of shame and anger. A voice in his head suggested pulling the other man off his horse to settle things by sword but Mikel shook the thought from his head.
Leave it alone for now, you can think on it later.
It took a great effort for Mikel to set his mind towards escorting Lady Ashara for her conversation with Ser Donnel, but by the time he was ready to conduct this duty he managed to push all thoughts of the Joust away - until later.
[Ransom of a courser and fitted half plate, Mikel will cover the difference of what Lord Starkwood will pay and the remaining cost]
