"... oh, it's true that Ser Balon Blackbriar acted despicably towards me - and we've all seen what the Beastly Bracken is like - but most of the knights I have spoken with have been quite the exemplars of chivalry. Why just yesterday I spoke to Balon the Brute's younger brother, Ser Titus. The difference between them is as clear as night and day.
Ashara was speaking with a group of young noblewomen that she 'just happened' to run into in a garden. As was the so often the case with young ladies her age, the conversation quickly turned to the unfortunate topic of men - who was most handsome or most gallant, who was wooing whom and what betrothals might be coming soon. For her purposes, this topic was not terribly of interest, but as was the case with many boring conversations, it was an opportunity to learn what was happening and a useful tool to convey a broader message.
"Ser Roland Cordwayner, as well. Not only did he gallantly defend Lady Alicent from her wretched attackers, but he has repeatedly acted in the most noble fashion towards me. My betrothed, Ser Roland's nephew Ser Quentin, has of course been quite the model of chivalry as well."
All the personality of a log, but I can't deny he's been chivalrous.
"I even had the pleasure of speaking with Ser Daemon Waters himself the other day. As chivalrous as anyone could wish a knight to be."
Now I'm playing with fire.... but a small, controlled burn can limit the damage of a wildfire - and the way things are going all the Reach will be ablaze soon enough.
"You know, it occurs to me that I have not heard any of the chivalrous knights I have met say that Ser Daemon should press his claim, not even the gallant man himself."
She pauses briefly, turning to smell a flower - and of course letting her implication sink in - some of her audience might not be the sharpest of wits, and she wanted to be sure they had plenty of time to absorb the message.
"It would be so much more pleasant if all knights followed the example of these few."
