Mikel had left the previous days event of selecting the battle reenactment commanders as soon as he could to get as much sleep as possible. Even through the pain which returned with a ferocity after the milk of the poppy had worn off he was asleep as soon as he lay down. His sleep was fitful but he got so much of it he felt well rested when he finally woke. Even with all the sleep he had since he went to bed at such an early hour he woke early in the morning.
He took his time waking and dressing before moving to a common area in the Starkwood pavilions and breaking his fast. There he learned he had not been the only one to rise early and enjoyed the company of the other Knights of Starkwood when somebody mentioned how nice an easy ride along the Mander would be for them and the horses. Before long he had changed into riding clothes and his horse was saddled so off they went.
Mikel's personal squire had come back to him this morning and rode behind them, allowing the Knights some privacy. He was a good lad but had been rather too cocky for Mikel's taste and failed to correct his behavior when he was told to as they rode for the tournament so Mikel had him assisting everyone at the Starkwood pavilions except the men at arms to teach him some humility. He seemed to have learned the lesson.
"I am very excited to see how the reenactment will go but I have no idea what to expect. Is it truly a reenactment or is that simply a theme for a bloodless battle to be fought so men can show the prowess of their strategic minds? My guess is closer to the latter, a sort of large scale melee. Can either of you clear this up for me?"
Soon the small talk made gave way to more pressing matters.
"Nearly every day of this tournament there has been some type of tragedy. A large scale skirmish would be the perfect opportunity for more of the same, maybe even more of it at once then has been seen so far. I know we have for the most part been on our own paths since we arrived here but have you heard of anything which leads you to believe we have anything more then the casual bruises, sprains, and breaks something like this is likely to produce to worry about? I for one would like to say that I believe we should take the threat Ser Balon spoke to Lady Ashara against Ser Symon seriously."

Cleyton was enjoying the ride and he seemed to have been born on the saddle, but it was probably his horse that looked better than him as the quality of it was not a question.
"I certainly hope there are no accidents for us Starkwoods" winking at Ser Mikel "You never know when you might just get trampled by a red horse next time" Cleyton chuckles and shows a small smile barely perceptible, his actual happy smile. "As far as I can tell regarding the event is 7 teams of 7 men each at the same time swinging swords hoping to hit the right target while avoiding a treacherous stab from the blindside, as if it wasn't hard enough to deal with the one in front!"
After a short while of riding and small talk of the past few days.
"This tournament ahs truly been of fire and blood, and while I might not have agreed with some people it is still a tragedy for his loved ones."
Cleyton remains silent, but his smile grows wider when he hears the threat of Balon toward Ashara "Isn't that the bastard that was inciting the rabble to spill dornish blood?"

Mikel smiles at Clayton's joke and nods along to what he has to say about the melee. When he asks if Bacon had been there stirring the crowd Mikel responded, "I had heard that a few times now though I had not been there to see it. Unfortunately it seems that anything bad you hear of him is something which can be believed. I have sympathy for his father and I hope he is able to manage the situation."
"I find the melee more interesting then the jousting personally. I had spoken to Ser Donnel of the melee recently and he told me that it's more about the show you can put on for the court then it is about winning and losing. Seems like a perversion to me but I am learning alot about court life from this tournament."
"Anyway, I imagine that as well as you ride you prefer the joust? Haven't seen too many sit as well as you, let alone better."

Cleyton can only nod regarding the rumors before answering Ser Mikel question "I took training as a page to take care of horses a lot and grew a liking for it, and since I have been riding since I was a boy it comes natural now." Cleyton pats his horse "It helps to have a great horse also, makes me look a lot better than I am" Cleyton chuckles "I need to improve my lance and swrodmanship, but that is something that time and experience can only do, but if I had a choice to fight I rather do it riding a horse than on foot. That does not mean I can't hold my ground on foot, I just feel more comfortable riding with sword in hand"
Continuing to ride for a while "Well, courtly affairs still escape me, but my father used to say that sometimes being quiet is the best you can do, or remember that a smile even when swimming in shit can take you alive from one side of the court room to the other" Cleyton nodded as if it was some factual knowledge that he had taken to heart.

Mikel joins Clayton in his mirth and then smiles when he reveals his father's words. "Your father gave you some good advice. Court life definitely has its own...way of being which can change drastically depending on which court and who is around. I think we are fortunate to be with House Starkwood in regards to such. I also think that perhaps we should be very aware on behalf of Lady Asahara, given one woman of Dornish descent from a good house was already attacked and the sentiment of the Reach concerning those with Dornish blood seems to worsen each day."
"I agree you are no push over when it comes to arms. Perhaps when we return to Starkwood you can help me with my riding and I can offer you some assistance in arms? I would certainly feel better in a saddle after some lessons with you."

"Deal!" said Cleyton laughing excited and looking forward to his lessons "I hope my improvements are good, but I have noticed there are slight differences in the sword styles by regions, and while the foundations are the same, experience and each House has a way to create subtle differences. Here in the Reach I have noticed efficiency and display are important, in the Riverlands there are so varied as the rivers and streams, but in the North is more about efficiency and makes it look rigid, I truly wonder what type of swordplay did you learn and I might pick up a thing or two with your training" his eyes have a special shine as if a new toy had been given to a boy, and excitement in his voice was noticeable.

"I would say that I was instructed to be direct and avoid anything flashy or for the purpose of flourish. But if you get me talking about it now this ride will never end!" He smiles as he tries to contain the excitement he feels when speaking anything martial.
"I noticed the same in my travels, each region has its own style, and each house it's own manner of displaying that style. It is my belief that those regions with real trouble, the north with its wildlings, the vale with its mountain clans, or even at the Dornish border where small skirmishes had not been uncommon so long ago, those places are where you can be best satisfied as a student because that which works best takes precedence when the reality of a life and death fight is always near."
Mikel prattled on, trying to keep the conversation general instead of specific, because he did have an appointment to get to and if he let himself get too into the conversation he may well forget.
[OOC: I lost track of this thread, my apologies! Perhaps we can call it a scene and figure out something for D8?]
