Roland had thoroughly assessed Ser Norren Wythers and felt familiar with his next opponent's capabilities. House Starling would have to be at its best in this round whether facing Longtable knights or not, given the emphatic statement Lord Starling had delivered. Ser Norren does not seem too happy with his lot, he sticks to his duty to his lord, but there is no particular enthusiasm for the task ahead. Roland should usually beat him, though if Ser Vardis is capable of bringing about an upset against Ser Dennis Hightower, the same could happen to Roland.

Roland rode a solid pass in the first round, mirroring Ser Norren's risky approach but without hitting the hits he'd reached when matched against Fireball. R3 P1 Noble, EF, HiS; SiS: 7d6k4+10 25 6d6k4-3 16Passive Animal Handling (Ride): 20 HP: 12/12 AR: 10

Ser Norren strikes a well placed blow, too bad it was towards a knight of Ser Rolands capabilities, as his lance hits ineffectually against the better knights shield. He proves worthy of Ser Rolands first strike, and he turns dutifully around for round 2. Passive Animal Handling (Ride): 18 HP: 12/12

The third time was the charm for Roland. The two knights clashed for a final pass, with both using the same spirited tactics. This time Roland's blow was perfect, and it was in the Sevens' hands as to whether Ser Norren would pay the price for his bold tactics. R3 P3 Noble, EF, HiS: 7d6k4+10 33Passive Animal Handling (Ride): 20 HP: 12/12 AR: 10 4 DoS = 4.5 x 4 Damage = 18 - 10AR = 8 Damage Plus another 4.5 damage from the fall, so enough for defeat in case our narrator wants to have a dramatic "Eyes Fixed" damage result instead of taking injuries.

Roland wheeled in his saddle, hearing Ser Norren's agony as a splinter of lance sprang from from shield to eye, costing him half the light of the world. While Ser Roland had not mirrored Ser Vardis's understandably brutal tactics in another of the duels against House Merryweather, his tilt was almost as tragic despite only striking his opponent's shield rather than helm. Ser Roland hastened to his foe's side and summoned the maesters, the ill-feeling between the two houses briefly forgotten. R3 P3 Romantic: 3d6 11Hugh Blackwood was sent to return Ser Norren's plate, with a hand-written message of condolence noting that ransoming armour that failed its master seemed ignoble. Such words were well-intentioned, but were oft misinterpreted when tempers were high. [OOC: failed Romantic/Honour bound roll, whichever we think most applies here so Ser Roland rejects the ransom for the armour that failed Ser Norren. While Roland's tactic was Noble, Eyes-fixed can produce tragic results so going with Defeat: blinded in one eye for Ser Norren. Inflames tensions further and creates an interesting Nemesis option for later, or at the very least some drama despite Roland's attempt to make a noble gesture. Ransom: Destrier only.]

So, read as maiming of awareness? OOC: Flaw: Marksmanship in case he comes back as a Spymaster type NPC?

Drawbacks are for primary characters, I'll go with awareness for the moment, and the we'll see what happens if he gets an upgrade.

Roland had noted Ser Norren's fine performance, and indeed the man's loyalty in an unworthy cause followed by the bitter price he had paid for it. Initially, little thought was given to any political ramifications, or indeed even Lord Starling's wishes on such a matter: Roland had judged the knight as seemingly a man of character and skill, and for the moment that was enough.
[Day 7]
Ser Norren,
I have answered the fine tilts we shared with unintended injury, but would continue the path to recompense by following the return of the armour that cruelly failed you with a chance to wear it alongside me in the melee, now that I have enjoyed the Warrior's blessing in attaining a captaincy.
I would be delighted to meet in person at House Starling's tents to discuss our strategy and tactics, but understand if your injuries are too fresh and to grievous to permit such a course.
With continued wishes for your recuperation,
Ser Roland Cordwayner

The letter had been received by Ser Norren's squire, but silence is the only reply.
