I saw it coming, and not just because someone told me that exact rumour at the masquerade (no, seriously, they did. Didn't realise it was me, obviously.) I mean, it relies on me being a complete fucking moron for motive (no, the kids are *not* an asset and being widowed is not a good thing on the meat market), but it was a definite thing in my backstory that my husband did die unexpectedly, so it's a fairly obvious avenue of attack.

To be fair! Even if your husband met his end with a lance through his gut, some busybody would still try to spread rumours you killed him!
Look at poor Cersei after Roberts death!

The boar's great tusks, they boded ill, for good King Robert's health. And the beast was every bit as fat, as Robert was himself. But our brave King cried, 'Do your worst, I'll have your ugly head,' You're nowhere near as murderous as the lion in my bed." King Robert lost his battle, and he failed his final test,
The lion ripped his balls off, Aaaaaaaand the boar did all the rest.
One of my favourite bits

Where is the post where people threw their gauntlets down against Lord Merryweather that I can't seem to find?

She taps the fingers of her right hand on her thigh. "If you want an easy test, there's a knight of the Starlings, Ser Roland Cordwayner - the hero who protected Lady Alicent from those ruffians. He wears the levers to manipulate him openly and proudly. I had a discreet word with him after Ser Balon and Ser Otho's despicable actions in the joust, and gave him the idea that loyalty to the crown was the honourable course of action. However, he may have put his ear to a conch shell since, and been persuaded otherwise. How about you go and ensure he remains loyal? See him, divine his levers, and use them to confirm his loyalty. There's no better way of learning than practice, and that's about as low-stakes as you can get." She frowns momentarily. "Oh, and don't tell anyone I did that. I'm publicly neutral in the conflict, since-" she cuts herself off, and points at him again. "You tell me why." Roland "low stakes" Cordwayner reporting for duty. Ah, the curse of being Status 3 and a second son...

I haven't seen you get up to much recently, I saw the opportunity to have you engage in a little intrigue (a bit more evenly-matched than when I faced you), and I thought 'why not?'

I haven't seen you get up to much recently, I saw the opportunity to have you engage in a little intrigue (a bit more evenly-matched than when I faced you), and I thought 'why not?' Thanks, it's nice when people find ways to involve other PCs in a natural fashion. I've had some moments in the sun already so trying to hang back a little and free narrator to work with others but very available for PC scenes if people want someone to manipulate! Marriage schemes, potential champion, push to issue challenges or information on the attack on Alicent etc. Roland the intrigue Pinata is stuffed full of prizes! Pleasingly, I've managed to get the odd thing out of some intrigues even when out-matched, so not entirely a one way street. Don't mind being on the end of intrigue beat-downs where it makes sense IC, gives your courtiers a chance to shine. One of the reasons I'm hoping to get melee captain status would be that gives me another "chip" as I'm hoping that would encourage various PCs/NPCs to intrigue Roland in to getting their friends/rivals/suitors on to his team.

Jesus Donnel, you didn't have to decimate the entirety of the Dornish forces. You could have left a few intact.

Deck was stacked against the Dornish to begin with. It's probably the only reason the Reach won the original battle.

You can say a lot about Donnel, but he does nothing half assed!😶 Yeah, the decks were stacked heavily against you! You have a better diceroll than me, but 500 more men is significant! Next time you can get the reach and absolutely crush me!

The numbers advantage was a huge asset, particularly because of the increased orders. Extra units AND extra orders AND auto-win initiative AND get to use all your orders at once? Yeah, the quality of the commanders is not particularly being tested. This was pretty close to unwinnable for the Dornish, no matter who the commanders were.

Back in my days, the Dornish could put up a better fight!
But seriously, I like the more abstract combat mechanism, it avoids huge messes in combat, and avoids stupid combinations like engineer-knights. Numbers should count, and the skill of the commander should count, it just needs to be tweaked a bit!
