Before even arriving, ser Donnel had decided to stand with the Dornish. He had originally been intending to stand in line, gain a small part in the battle, and not stand out. Unfortunately for ser Donnel, his temper had been tested more than his hearing, and he easily hears Lord Marq throwing disguised insults at his friend. "I remember Lord Bryce! You fought bravely, like something from out of a bards tale, when we campaigned together those years ago! I was little more than a squire, and you were wisely counceling your junior!" Ser Donnel then turns to tell the assembled knights: "I was young enough to spectate the chivalry of some of the men here! Some more, of you, I remember watching your fathers brave acts!" Ser Donnel leaves out names, wishing to let the knights themselves wonder who he was refering to. "I was witness to the bravery of the day, and nothing would make me happier than reliving that battle, with an outcome more fitting of the bravery shown!" "And next to me, I would ask for your guidance once more, old friend." He turns back to lord Bryce. "The laughing knight who so ably fought in the pass!" Later, as he returns to wash his mistakes away, ser Donnel thinks to himself Moron, you can barely lead your arms to dress you, and you expect anybody to want you to lead them in a mock battle? You don't even like the noices of battle you fool! The old knight’s speech moved Daeron in ways he hadn’t expected. To his dismay, too many knights had signed up to represent Dorne, and even though it wasn’t supposed to mean anything other than to be part of a fun reinactment, there was no way of keeping politics out of this. However, to have such a noble and effective leader representing the Reachmen heartened Daeron, regardless of what political differences they might share.
With a clap and a shout, Daeron leads a number of other knights in applauding Ser Donnel and chanting his name.

Ser Donnel smiles and nods gratefully to the large knight who started the cheering. He puts his arm around Lord Bryce as he tells: "We both still have our teeth in place, we will resist and bite, until the valor of the Reach becomes apparent!"
