These are a collection of contests open for anyone, while most knights of high birth holds themselves above partaking, nobody is likely to care overly much if they do. It is mostly to provide spectacle and excitement for the many who call Highgarden home, and an opportunity for such retainers of the visiting lords to also have some fun competing against each other. A lady, however, looses 1 virtue should she choose to partake (Deception(Disguise) TN 9 suffices to sneak in, critical failure means discovery, simple failure allows one to make a hasty retreat).
Horse Race
One must bring own horse, bonuses for superior/extraordinary applies
There will be three rounds of racing, to proceed from the first you must pass a TN 9 Animal Handling (Ride) test, the second round requires TN 12, while the final round requires TN 15. Should more than one character beat the final TN, the winner is determined by highest DoS, then Ride specialties, then re-roll.
For each point of movement your steed has beyond 8, gain +1b on all tests (you may trade +2b gained in this fashion for +1D, for each point of movement it has below 8, suffer -1D on all tests.) Riding a steed that can take injuries bestows +1 on the tests. Riding one that can takes wounds bestows +2.
To the victor goes a purse of 1GD, in addition any character beating the final test will be invited for a (short) meeting with Lord Fossoway.
Throwing Contests.
The knife throwing contest also comes in multiple rounds, starting at TN 6, each round increases by 3 until the TN reaches 15. Each round, you may take up to three tests, 3 DoS total is required to advance to the next round. A critical failure disqualifies you. In the last round, you must achieve at least 3 DoS total to win the price. In the event that multiple characters beats the final test, total DoS in that round determines the winner, if still tied, one must keep making throwing tests until one has more DoS than the other.
Additionally, there is the stone throwing contest. Make three Athletics (Throw) TN 12 tests, the highest scoring test is declared the winner (longest throw).
To the victor of each contest goes a purse of 1GD.
Obstacle Course:
Agility (Acrobatics or Balance) Athletics (Climb or Run) Endurance (Any)
TN for first heat is 6, 9 for semi-final then 12 for final, you must achieve at least 3 total DoS on each set of tests to progess to the next round (no critical failures). The character gaining the most DoS on the final (at least 3 DoS total and no critical failures to be eligible) is declared the winner, with number of specialties followed by re-rolls used for tie-break.
To the victor goes a purse of 1GD
Wrestling:
Step 1: Agility (Any) TN 9 Athletics (Strength or Throw) TN 9 Endurance (Any) TN 9
Each DoS granting +1b on the final test, you may trade +2b of this bonus for +1D Critical Failure imposes an injury (cumulative).
Fighting (Brawl) TN 9 To win, one must score the highest number of DoS (at least 3 to beat the NPC's), reroll for tie-breaks.
To the victor goes a purse of 1GD
Foot Race
Athletics (Run) TN 9 Endurance (Stamina) TN 9
To win, one must score the highest number of DoS (at least 5 to beat the NPC's), number of specialties, then reroll for tie-breaks.
To the victor goes a purse of 1GD

Not being one of the highest born knights, Ser Roland took the time to take part in the small-folk's games, as much to put them in their place as anything. While not outright discourteous to smallfolk, he managed to display much more camaraderie with his knightly competitors. He seethed with rage where beaten by men born to lower rank. Roland threw passing well after a poor start, but lacked the technique to make best use of his strength. He surprised himself in making the final of the obstacle course and even being among the leaders at one stage, albeit his normally impressive stamina failed him at the last. He acquitted himself well in the wrestling, his consistency across the disciplines tested and natural talent for fighting overcoming a lack of specialist training. Roland could not quite turn a commendably well run race in to finishing among the leaders, but was among the second pack to finish. [OOC: rolls below. His performance didn't go unnoticed as he was granted an audience with Lord Fossaway. Balon had been looking for a specific type of courser and found it an opportune time to speak with a house known for horse breeding. During the stone throwing competition Balon was sure he'd won until the two knights in service to House Starkwood edged him out. Though not the most agile Balon made it to the finals of the obstacle course before stumbling at the very end and being passed over by his competitors. In wrestling and the foot race he fared no better than the obstacle course and stone throwing. He performed well just not well enough to win. When the competition was complete Balon had failed to win anything but had carried himself well in all events. He was more than happy with the consolation prize of meeting with Lord Fossaway.

While most knights would see the smallfolk's events as beneath them, Addam saw the horse race as a chance to warm up his horsemanship before his tilts. He had intended to run it on his destrier Seasmoke, but was pleasantly surprised when Lysette had offered him the chance to ride her palfrey instead. Stating the palfrey's grace was much better suited for the course instead of a destrier's more bulky movements. Addam deftly guided the palfrey, finishing each round with ease.

Spurred on by Balon, Titus participated in all the contests (apart from the knife throwing to save everyone from the embarrassment and potential harm!) and for a while, he forgot all about Fire, forgot all about Blood and could leave his worries about the coming tilts to the side. Between him and Balon it was as if they where boys again. A rubbish performance in the Obstacles Course didn’t even matter to them. Balon beat him in the Stone Throwing and they both failed to perform in the Foot Race. Titus did however best his older brother in a wrestling match, something he would not let Balon forget! Titus real passion was in the Horse Race, having brought his Palfrey Spring to Highgarden. The gray and white stallion carried him all the way to the finals and almost to the winner’s pouch. Not that it mattered much to Titus, a moment of carefree contest was enough. Perhaps Master Malyk was right, there is no shame in putting down your worries, if just for a little while.

For the horseracing, Malyk cheered on the competitors from the stands. He technically knew how to ride a horse; he technically knew how to do many things. While he had no fear of embarrassment of falling off his horse at the first hurdle, he didn'f feel the need to place himself and others in danger by his noviceness. It was for this reason he was a spectator for the throwing contests as well. If riding a horse seemed imprudent, throwing sharp knives and heavy rocks seemed worse. He entered the obstacle course, more out of it looking to be incredible amounts of fun rather than any desire to win. He barely managed to finish the first heat. The obstacles were no difficulty, but he was heavily winded. After some meditation and deep breathing, the second heat went much better. He managed to finish in good time and had found a stride that didn't overtax him. He gave a valiant effort in the final heat, but his efforts was just not quite good enough compared to the competition. Still, he was very happy that he had gotten as far as he had, and it had been great fun, which was the point. The prize money would go to someone much more deserving. The wrestling was much more Malyk's style. He had been roughhousing with other boys for as long as he could remember. Mostly it was all in fun. Sometimes it was to defend himself or others. Due to his easy-going nature (and perhaps his oddness), most did not take him seriously... to their detriment. The young Senechal easily put most of the opponents he faced into the dirt. He got a lucky opening in his final match, but luck plays as much a part in these contests as skill. Malyk had large amounts of both. Finally he entered the foot race. He wasn't even trying to win at this point. He wanted to wind down from the previous events and this was as good a way as any. He simply fell into a steady lope behind the other competitors and kept it up until he crossed the finish line. He wouldn't have been able to tell you where he had placed if you asked him.

The Horse Race is exciting, with many young knights challenging for the grand prize, Ser Addam Velaryon, in part owing to a swifter steed emerges as the victor, but not by a wide margin. Ser Mikel of Harroway wins three competitions, throwing a stone the longest, running the fastest and only just winning ahead of Ser Roland Cordwayner in the obstacle course. Ser Roland also distinguished himself in the foot race and stone throwing, finishing second and third after Mikel, but in a long drawn out wrestling match with pretty much nothing to separate them until the very end, he finally manages to get himself a well deserved victory.
Addam gets 1 GD and a meeting with Lord Fossoway Cleyton, Titus and Balon also gets a meeting with Lord Fossoway Meeting with Lord Fossoway may be handled with a single simple intrigue (ID 14, 16 if representing his house) with one or two IC posts for some small favor or disposition gain, but the audience can be made into a larger scene if it makes for good story. Mikel gets 3GD Roland gets 1GD
