Ser Donnel negotiates through the throng of strangers. I swear I saw him. Ser Donnel had always carried a strong dislike for Lord Allister Levalle, but that dislike had never extended to his younger brother. Ser Aladale was no champion at the tilt, and apart from them both being the younger brother of a lord they had little in common, yet somehow ser Donnel had a certain respect for the other knight.
"Ser Levalle, good to see you again! I shall hope you will compete in the joust? Not just spend your time here to drink and celebrate?"

Ser Aladale's expression is blank for a brief moment as he searches his brain to place the familiar face. But that only takes a second for him to recover and breaking into a smile. "Ah, Ser Donnel.. Blackbriar. Indeed nice to see a familiar face." He extends his hand for greeting. "I am still undecided to be honest. You know I prefer the side activites to the main event and with all these fine knights, I am not sure if a participation is wise. I am guessing your name is already on the lists?"

Ser Donnel grabs Alades extended hand firmly. "My name is ever present, even as these old bones creaks in protest!" Ser Donnel proclaims. "you should enter, it is just in good fun. You might even be able to impress a fair lady!" Ser Donnel adds smilingly.
"I cannot say that I understand all that you do at these tournaments, but surely it is enough to pay for ransom, if you were to be dismounted?"

Aladale smiles at Donnel's last comment: "My mother may have named me Aladale but my father gave me the name Levalle and with that come certain privileges. We may not be universally liked but ransoms are no issue for our house." He pauses for a moment. "That would be something now wouldn't it? A knight winning a fair lady's heart in a Tourney" Shaking his head he adds: "I don't know maybe I will put my name down on the morrow. Have you heard about the trouble up in the Riverlands? What do you think? I wonder what effect it will have on the Reach..."

"The death of ser Daven you talk about? I never knew much about the man, but when a knight can be killed in an ambush in such civilised lands, security will have to tighten! Hopefully King Daeron will see that knights of the Reach are the perfect candidates to protect the realm! A heavily armored force able to withstand the harshest of ambushes, and with virtue to not abuse their power for their own gain... Regardless of what King Daeron does, it will meet harsh resistance... Especially if he increases the taxation!"
Ser Donnel looks at Ser Aladale: "These politics are more of your speciality than mine, what would be your educated guess? I am certain you have plenty of friends in the riverland too? Have you heard much new?"

What a fellow. The whole castle is burning and he is only worried how to save the bed sheets from the smell of smoke...
"I don't know anymore than the rumors flying around. But I am worried. I fear it is a bit late for calming down the situation. Before the year is out Blackwoods and Brackens will be at each others throat again. And with the general rift between houses, I wouldn't be suprised to see other houses add to the feud."
He closes his eyes for a moment. "Maybe I am too pessimistic, but this could be the beginning of something much bigger and nothing good.."

"The Bracken and the Blackwoods have feuded for generations, I think king Daeron will be well aware and ready to step in. A quick, decisive intervention could easily stop others from joining in, just like it always have."
Ser Donnel shakes his head: "King Daeron has kept the peace this far, I would hope more than a century old feud will be needed to stop that! I understand your concern, but we have seen plenty of discontent in our time, best not to feed the fire."
"My father always said: hope for the best, but prepare for the worst, I hoped for your brother, but I always expected you." Ser Donnel smiles fondly at the memory of his departed father.
"I know your brother likes to be well prepared, does he share your fears?"

"I think that is exactly the problem. The feud itself is old enough and in normal times a little spark would fade and burn out. But right now, it could cause a fire as others are merely waiting for a pretext for trouble..."
He smiles at Donnel's remark about his father: "The fate of second sons is always the same, it seems. I have heard similar from my father. But I have to say, I never envied my brother. Being the heir gives you so little control over your own life. I always enjoyed that freedom to live my own life, don't you feel the same?"
"I have my brother's ear, so I know he sees my perspective of things and understands my concern. How much he shares them, I cannot say..."

"All we can do is to prepare. Before the king calls us, there is nothing a simple knight like me can do, but men like you, Aladale, I feel can do a lot." Ser Donnel claps the younger knight on the shoulder before adding. "I hope the Father will help you see right."
