The list of currently active characters are here: greatbastards.boards.net/post/205/thread
You come up with a character concept, either ask to take one of the existing NPC's to make your own or start from a nice blank canvas, then send a pm to me with what you have, you do not need any stats at this point, but some idea of what you are thinking is good (nothing wrong with producing a quick sheet for that matter), at this point I am mostly looking for an idea about where your character is coming from and what makes them tick, if that seems good enough to work with from my point of view, a private subforum will be set up for working out the details, I prefer to keep my inbox as clean as I can, so most queries should go through the relevant forum threads. You should also post publicly in the relevant OOC thread if you want to take one of the existing NPC's so that others know that there is an application in the works for that character. Note that all of the NPC's (those with a post of their own, that is), while designed to be fairly open-ended in case a player wants to give them a spin, are equipped with a few narrator-notes to give motivation and guide NPC actions, some of them will be involved in scripted plots, or designated as likely targets for certain NPC schemes, though nothing too serious. Both narrator notes and pre-generated stats can be handed out upon request.
Before you are ready to play, you should change your display name to match your character. Note that prefixes other than maester and septon (So, ser, lord or lady mostly) should not be in your display name. Additionally, your signature should contain relevant information such as your status rank and full title, along with a short description of who you are in this world. You should also head over to the PC profile thread to add a more comprehensive background, though you may certainly opt for a "reasonably public background", secrets that few characters would know can be left out. While not an absolute requirement, you should find a suitable portrait of your character to use as profile picture, preferably with square dimensions of 150x150 or higher resolution (the board will adjust it down to 150x150 on it's own). Ideally fitting the style of the various NPC portraits. Both narrator and fellow players are likely to be helpful if one has trouble finding a good fit.
Note that your character should be a member of one of the home houses (Blackbriar, Levalle, Starkwood or Starling) either as part of the family or through the bonds of some sort of service, in the strictest sense someone who would tag along when the lord and his retinue goes to Highgarden to attend Lord Tyrell's tourney and similar occasions. While unaffiliated characters will not be outright banned, they are strongly discouraged, and primarily reserved for concepts that would severely burden the house they were attached to.
Players are also strongly encouraged to use the template offered here when making the sheet (saves narrator time with math-checking): greatbastards.boards.net/post/226
