It didn't take much convincing for the respective soldiers to clear the way for the two warriors. One was a feared and hulking warrior whose skill at arms was unparalleled among those at Battle Valley, the other was Ser Daeron Wildfyre, himself a dangerous foe who few of the Blackwood soldiers wanted to deal with, at least not when when Ser Rhys was around. Gripping his sword tight, Wildfyre looked at the imposing brute and quietly wished that he had kept Vigilance. A Valyrian Blade would go a long way in evening the odds against this monster. Instead he would have to swallow his fear and approach this battle with nothing more than courage, skill, and the finest steel that Kingsbridge had to offer. A wittier knight might have provided some clever insults, but his blood was too hot for anything cunning and it would have been lost on the Roughneck anyway. Instead he just gave a grunt as he raised his shield and started a deadly dance.

Ser Rhys is the sort of foe only those liking to live dangerously would be willing to face, tall and built like a bull, his foul reputation for brutality in the melee has spread throughout the Reach in a surprisingly short time, even for one of Dornish blood. A beast of a man with enormous resilience and terrible strength. Rhys initiative: 3d6-3 10CD: 13 AR: 11 Health: 15 Wields Ball and Chain and assorted other blunt weaponry.

Though he was smaller, Daeron was quicker and more skilled as he stepped inside of Ser Rhys' guard wrapped his leg behind his enemy's own before pushing him over with his shield. The Roughneck on the ground, Daeron delivered a nasty blow, but not one that would be fatal to such a man. It did; however, give him the opening he needed to kick the ball and chain well out of his reach. While Daeron's forceful fighting style does indeed match his personality, the primal fury of this opponent is fully capably of matching everything that gave rise to the moniker of Wildfyre, it would seem that all the swing of the sword did was to enrage him, with a bash of the shield to Daeron's jaw, the great bastard's balance is shaken and then follows the hammer blow of Ser Rhys' weapon. This is nothing like the challenge offered by Ser Dennis.
Unfortunately, no, disarm is at 2 DoS vs passive fighting which is 24 in this case. And now for the reply: Knockdown vs Daeron: 8d6k5 22Reckless Fury vs Daeron: 9d6k6+1 28So Athletics (5)+1 weapon, +1 from prone, +2 from fury=9*4-11=25 damage. Also shattering I for -1 penalty (-1 CD, -0 AR) CD: 8 (13) AR: 11 Health: 4/15 Injuries: 1 (Tough)

Trying not to jump in on other people's thread but based on this thread greatbastards.boards.net/post/26556/thread and Roughneck's attack on Wildfire his Passive Fighting should be 23 not 24. Base Attack dice: 7d6k5+1 (Fighting 5, Bludgeons 2, Superior Weapon) Aim: 1b Reckless: +1D Total: 9d6k6+1, which is what he rolled in this thread. Now I could be overlooking something but that's what I see.

The Roughneck's crushing blow left Daeron reeling. He already knew that this would not be an easy fight, but after feeling what Ser Rhys could do with a weapon he quickly changed his expectations for victory. At this point wounding the Roughneck enough to keep him from devastating the entire flank and then escaping would be a good enough goal. Grunting through the pain, he launches another barrage of attacks in an attempt to get back in control of the fight. HotV-Roughing It-Red Blooded: 6d6k5 14 (Simple Failure, no Cautious for Daeron) Takes a Wound to soak up the 25 damage Takes a Fatigue to ignore a Wound CD: 12 AR: 11 Health: 12/12 W/I/F: 2/0/1 Roughing It-Attack: 10d6k6+1 27 (4 DOS for [28-11]=17 Damage) Roughing It-Disarm: 9d6k7+1 26 (1 DOS, no success) Roughing It-Maneuver: 9d6k7+1 35 (3 DOS, so he's moved back 1 yard and takes a -1D to his future rolls)

Hmm, problem detected: special event rules allows for spent DP to affect tests on subsequent actions, but makes no such provision for extra actions.

Rhys keeps slamming savagely, but this time his blow is not quite so terrible as the last, but he seems much less affected by the brutal strikes than the foe he trades them with. Reckless vs Daeron: 9d6k6-1 213 DoS with powerful 3, so 3*9-11=16 damage Hmm, forgot aim, so I guess it's this instead: Maneuver: 9d6k6-1 25 No penalty die. Reeling from his heavy blow, Daeron adopts a sideways stance to make himself a smaller target. Not the best footing for precise or devastating attacks, but it served its purpose for now. However, a few more blows from the Roughneck and it would be over for Wildfyre, perhaps now would be a good time for him to think about flight.

Grunting and roaring, The Roughneck appears almost impervious to the blows taken, relentlessly hammering down on Daeron to give him a taste of what most of the great bastards foes have found themselves to be on the receiving end for. The Great Bastard might remember Lord Willem's words that there were always going to be someone who could defeat you, the strongest man could be beaten by the fastest, the fastest by the most cunning, the most cunning by the most skilled and all of them could be overcome by whoever had enough luck that day.

"Yield" "I yield"
His first surrender was more of a whimper, his second was a gasp. He dropped the splintered remains of his shield and struggled to raise his arms, not quite above his head. He was beaten, but better to admit defeat and live to support his brother's cause another day than to die senselessly here in the Riverlands. In the meantime however, he was now trapped in the Vulture's claws, a prospect that did little to excite him.

Daeron is escorted to the back of the line, only required to surrender his weapons as is custom, while the Roughneck begins to hammer at the men who followed Daeron with far less mercy than that afforded a knight with a valuable ransom.
