Mikel enjoyed the humor, and appreciated that it was a genuine conversation. Each speaking of real concerns and seeking to make it lighter for the other. He still preferred the idea of the three staying together - that the three might change the course of the battle seemed less likely than that they might preserve the course of each others continued lives. "Walgrave and Otho. I feel like that is a rather short list, surely there are more men who hate us on the other side? Or were those two simply the two which hated us the most? Frankly, I feel like I am not being myself if that is all the ill will I've attracted."

Davos shrugs.
"They are the two I know of. Still, unless you are not the man I take you for I doubt there are many others who hate you, and I left most of those who hate me back in Essos."
He shakes his head.
"I am sure there are many of our opponents who are angry at us, but hatred is another matter. Anger is a wild fire - it burns bright and hot, but will inevitably burn itself out. Hatred is a sacred fire - tended to and nurtured. It may burn small for years upon years, but given the right fuel - the right target - it will flare up as hot and fierce as dragonfire."
He chuckles.
"I have heard it said that hatred is the reverse side of the coin of love - and held onto as tightly."

"I believe I have earned the ill feelings of some men precisely by being the man you believe me to be." After a moments thought he added, "And for better or worse it has been worthwhile." Mikel thought of his encounter with Merryweather and his men, the dual with Tarly and the joust against him much later. He remembered fighting for Ashara's honor after her death, defeating the belligerent who happened to be quite dangerous. His more recent trip to Deeproote which turned out to be a failure, but one which had not involved a contest of arms. And of course he and the Brutes history and relation. "It doesnt take much to earn a mans disdain, especially the type of men whom I disdain. This thought does lead me to another, and I wonder what the consequence for all this from the crown might be?"

Davos sighs.
"In the end, probably nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Some of the more egregious acts may result in a few executions, but not likely anyone of particular consequence. No doubt the King will not wish to provoke the Fire faction by executing someone of Otho's status, and I doubt he would take more severe action against his own supporters than he is willing to do against his opponents."
Shaking his head in disgust, he continues.
"Maybe a disposable peon like that Balon Blackheart that no one would remember in a year's time, but I doubt anyone more significant will face justice. Certainly not any great bastards or lords of major houses."

Robyn let out a snort, grinning as he pulled back his hair, his fingers slightly teasing the mop of curls, "So nothing will be done? Otho and those responsible will slip away while hundreds of men will die for their name?" He shook his head, "We should have killed him when we had the chance, Im not sure I could do that again,"
He paused to look over at Mikel, letting out an extremely forced scoff from behind a scowl that was slowly slipping into a smirk, "And I definitely know you couldnt,"
His giggle was soft, and hinted that the wine they were drinking was starting to take effect. He squinted his eyes slightly as he looked just above Mikel's head, pursing his lips, "Do you think the infantry that fight for the Brackens hate us?" he looked between the two, "And are we meant to hate them? Or, in the pursuit of victory are such feelings rational, or some inherent fear response?"

Mikel laughed. "Probably not. And now that I have seen how fast he can run, I know I won't be able to escape him either." He had moved quickly for such a large man. Robyns question took some consideration, but Mikel gave him his honest thoughts. "I think perhaps the Brackens and Blackwoods will hate each other, and those who come to fight for the other given their centuries of feuding. Thats a hatred in their blood by now. But as for the rest? Maybe they'll find hatred to make the fighting easier but I doubt it'll be genuine. Though.. afterwards it might be." He shrugged. "Hate is easier for a man to confess to than fear I think."
