{OOC: this thread comes after this epic critical fail: greatbastards.boards.net/post/30614}
The more Parmen thought about his current situation the more he was convinced that it wasn’t actually his fault.
Oh, of course he was willing to accept responsibility for his choices and mistakes. The decision to join his brother Roland in the Riverlands and fight on the side of the Brackens, that had been his own. Lord Alliser, his liege lord and father-in-law, might like to have one foot in either camp of the coming war but having his bannerman ride off to fight in the Riverlands' perpetual squabbles had not left him happy.
Leaving his wife at Highever while he rode forth was also a mistake. It made sense at the time; why bring your wife to war? Especially when your wife was already upset with you for sleeping with other women. Which Parmen vowed would never happen again.
Until it did happen again. And again. And two more times. And then with two more at the same time. The septons preached about seven sins and Lust had always been Parmen’s special favorite. Beautiful women were his joy and his weakness. The pleasures that his brother Redtusk took from riding a fierce mount and waving his longsword around was what Parmen experienced when he… Well sleeping with other women was Parmen’s vice and he could admit to his faults.
But this current situation…well that was another story entirely. Yes, he had flirted with the beautiful maiden at the feast and yes he had known that she had been the niece of Lord Bracken. And yes, she had been extraordinarily willing to show him the more isolated corners of the grounds around Stone Hedge and to fuck him in a variety of positions until they were most impolitely interrupted by a few of the gardeners and an old septon. That had been bad of Parmen. Very, very wrong.
But really how was he supposed to know that his newfound companion was already engaged? That Lord Bracken had promised her to some young hotheaded knight whose father was a bannerman to House Frey? Ser Adam Charlton and his brother both seemed like the vengefully jealous types. They were petty enough to threaten to remove their contributions from the Bracken forces over this…misunderstanding…and to demand that Parmen face Ser Adam with steel in his hand. Parmen didn’t want to hurt anyone but if a fight was coming he had no plan to be on the losing end.
Anything that Parmen knows about Ser Adam?
