'Lady Eylena Ashford' took the opportunity of a gathering to meet with Ser Guyard. Being from the complete opposite end of the Reach, it was likely to be their first meeting (or so Laena hoped, else things could go very wrong very quickly). Step 1 - Deception (Disguise) (Eylena): 6d6k4 20Step 1 - Deception (Act) (Eylena): 6d6k4 17Lady Elyena's Status 4 gives -1D to my Status rolls Step 1 - Audience (Guyard) -1D: 7d6k4 21 My Virtue is 7, but I'm presuming I'd have to use Lady Eylena's instead. But whatever it is, it should be a success. 22 if Charismatic applies (pre-Virtue). Step 1 - SoI - Status (Breeding) -1D vs Will(Dedication): 9d6k5 26Does Charismatic apply? If it does, then 27Courteous gives +1D to roll, and +1 default disposition your opponent's DR is treated as if their disposition towards you is improved by 2 steps per DoS for the duration of the intrigue. Step 1 - Initiative -1D: 7d6k4 21 If Charismatic applies, then 22Her body language was not at all seductive, so as to not misrepresent her purpose here - she was a wife and mother of two fine young sons after all - but it was calm, confident, and assured. A woman who knew her mind clearly, without the insecurities that would lead her to seek to dominate those close to her. And she gave customary greetings smoothly and eloquently.

Ser Guyard had indeed not had the pleasure of meeting Lady Ashford previously, the man is not particularly pleasant, rather obviously desiring to take this opportunity to present the case of an experienced knight like he would be required to safeguard Bandallon for young Lord Blackbar. Chance TN 12 to see through the deception outright: 2d6 7Critfail means he doesn't even know what color her hair is supposed to be, disguise sufficient for him not to recognize Laena, so all good so far. Audience sufficient. Opening awareness: 6d6k4 20 Should be 1 DoS for +1 to non-intrigue tests. Initiative: 6d6k4 14 Laena goes first. Guyard: Objective (Convince): Support in the regency debacle. ID: 14 DR: 2 Composure 14

"Good Ser, I am already sure that a firm, steady hand on the reigns of power is for the best. Indeed, that is why I have sought you out. "We all know that good knights temper their language somewhat, so as to be seen as chivalrous figures. As do ladies, in public. However, in private, we are frequently much more ... forthright, both in our opinions, and in those of our husbands. So, we frequently can get a more honest feel for the true mood of the Reach than many men. "This has led me to you, to offer you some potentially very useful information: "The ill-sentiment towards those of Dornish descent is *signficantly* greater than even common perception suggests. "As a rough estimate, for every one lord or knight who speaks out openly against their actions and nature, somewhere between four and six harbour similar or worse opinions, but are reluctant to speak out, for a variety of reasons. However, whenever someone else does, they nod and smile in private. The greater the insult, the bigger the smile. "Make public and clear that you believe that snake not only doesn't belong in a regent's seat, but also she shouldn't sully the Sisters with her presence - that Dornish harlots only belong alongside other harlots, ideally with their menfolk's heads on spikes outside. Do this, and while a few of the more honourable knights may pay lip-service to protecting the 'lady's' so-called 'virtue'" the scorn in her voice as she says those words is withering with contempt " - though most of that ilk are likely in the Riverlands - I promise you that in private, many, many more lords will approach you with smiles, friendship, and support." Little Push - R1 - Influence (Bluff) - TN14: 6d6k4+1 24 3 DoS! What a roll to start off with! 3 * 4 = 12 - 2 = 10 Composure damage Objective (Incite): Utterly savage Lady Falyse in public ID: 13 (12 if Status capped by disguise) Disposition: Dislike (Boring!) DR: 5 Composure 11/11

Ser Guyard comes up with a predictably boring answer, it is not right to speak of the dead like so, especially not family. It might be that speaking in such tones might offer support, but for a regent to start his tenure by proclaiming the lord's mother and sister for whores might not be the best of ideas. While he appreciates the concern, surely such vile tactics will not be necessary?
Guyard: Objective (Convince): Support in the regency debacle. ID: 14 DR: 2 Composure 4/14 Convince: 6d6k4+2 233*4-5=7 Under the circumstances, with "Lady Ashford" likely to disappear and not make good on any deals made (and he'd probably re-interpret his objective to have her give more active support), I'd say how much frustration Laena needs to eat to defeat him proper determines how well she succeeds.

Eylena gives a polite chuckle, though he had not made a joke. "If you would sooner be forgotten as a polite loser, rather than remembered as an honest winner, that is entirely your choice, of course. "Or maybe you're a gambler, and you like long odds. "But I've heard *very* clearly from many ladies that your chasing of honours for yourself and your sons has made yourself a *lot* of ... if not quite 'enemies', at the very least 'people who will greatly enjoy watching you fail' among those who will decide the regency." A small, amused smile. "Small people do so hate seeing others gain titles and honours they believe should be theirs, and the sentiment I hear is that this is seen as a perfect opportunity for payback." * * * Little Push - R2 - Influence (Bluff) - TN14: 6d6k4+1 25 3 DoS ....WTF is with this thread? That's 3 Influence rolls in a row which have been *spectacularly* lucky. This roll is a 0.06% probability (1 in 1,666.66*, I think). Anyway, 3 * 4 = 12 - 2 = 10 Composure damage again, taking him to -6 Objective (Incite): Utterly savage Lady Falyse in public ID: 13 (12 if Status capped by disguise) Disposition: Dislike (Boring!) People prone to envy are always like to be jealous of others with success, but it ought to presumably be cancelled out by the equally irrational dislike of a darker skin tone, wouldn't Lady Ashford agree?
Objective (Convince): Support in the regency debacle. ID: 10 (2 frustration) DR: 2 Composure 2/14 Convince: 6d6k4+2 21 2*4-5=3

"If that were the first thing people thought of when thinking of her right now, it likely would work. But it's not. The attack on her has ironically provided her protection. Unless you're willing to boldly face down the sympathy that caused, and shatter it with truths, she will sail that sympathy right into the regency." * * * Little Push - R3 - Influence (Bluff) - TN10: 6d6k4+1 14 Oh, *now* my luck runs out. 1 short of ending this with no Frustration. 1*4-2 = 2 Objective (Incite): Utterly savage Lady Falyse in public ID: 13 (12 if Status capped by disguise) Disposition: Dislike (Boring!) "Ultimately, it's down to you. You can carry on as you are, and you may even succeed - I highly doubt it, but it is at least *possible*. But, most likely, you will fail, and gently fade back into irrelevance to the wider stage, with most people outside the Hightowers forgetting you within a month or two." She gives a small shrug. "There are certainly worse fates. "You are lucky, though. In this moment, chance, fate, whatever, has given you a lever big enough to move the Reach. Far more eyes and ears are on you than would normally be. Have the courage, vision, and will to pull that lever with all your might, and you can use it to not only lever yourself into power which you understand how to wield far better than any Dorish 'Lady' could do, but leverage yourself into the midst of a group of powerful and influential friends. I'm sure a man of your talents understands well the value of such friends, and could go far, "if you but screw your courage to the sticking place, and seize this moment. For yourself, and your sons." * * * Little Push - R4 - Influence (Bluff) - TN8: 6d6k4+1 18 3 DoS. And the fat lady sings. 3*4-2 = 10 Objective (Incite): Utterly savage Lady Falyse in public ID: 11 (1 Frustration) Disposition: Dislike (Boring!) DR: 5 Composure 2/11

Guyard groans in his mind, he did not wish to sink to such depths, but he does so desire the regency, and it may indeed prove to be slipping out of his fingers without aggressive action.

"I can tell I've given you plenty to think on, Ser, so I will leave you to your ruminations." She curtseys. "Good fortune to you in your endeavours. I look forward to hearing of your success." And Lady Eylena gracefully takes her leave.
