"The mouse is cunning, resourceful, and well aware there is at least one cat nearby. The surprise would be if there *weren't* traps, rather than if there were."

Does the mouse know all it's enemies? Is it aware of the shadowcat, for example?

"Perspective is a funny thing. If the mouse were truly aware of the shadowcat, it likely would have acted by now. I believe the mouse sees the shadowcat much smaller - as a housecat - because it has only been in the light in the distance, so the mouse sees it as a small cat at an unassuming distance, rather than a shadowcat stalking its prey from a distance.
"But I would not wish to wager my life on that. Mice are cunning things."

No? It would occur to the Kraken, that the mouse is a mother, and it's children might be unprotected, if their guardian was..distracted, well, who knows what little children might do? A certain half-brother of the shadowcat, surely here but the kraken fails to see behind which mask he hides, oh well, must be for another feast. He attempted to make her want to make little krakens with him at Highgarden, had she been but a young maid at the time, he might well have been successful, a maid she will still insist on being, but not so young anymore, no, although have she ever been? It would not be a stretch to imagine for Laena that Alicent is suggesting to set up Denyse in the path of Farman with no chaperone or other protection. The risks would then almost all be his, and the rewards? He might enjoy the moment, but Denyse being publicly dishonored would at the very least frustrate's Maegelle's ambitions.

Laena tenses somewhat when the Kraken first mentions going after 'the mouse's' children, but relaxes again when the plan is clearly non-fatal.
"So, all that is required is to draw away the mouse, the mouse's lover - should he have returned - the chaperone, and any guards, and the path is clear for the fox, should he be controllable. Which is far from certain, for that one is not nearly so vapid and empty as he feigns."
There's a few moments quiet as Laena considers various plots. "Not an easy task. Interesting, though. Easier, perhaps, if the mousette does most of the work for us. Our little mousette likely seeks the mouse's approval, for I imagine it has been rather scarce, particularly of late. I wonder if laying a false trail to some appetising cheese in the inbetweentime, to be found at the next feast, might encourage the mousette to shuck those shackles willingly?"

The Kraken suspects that the Fox must first have it's appetite sufficiently aroused, but not at all sated, and somehow along the way be guided in the right direction. It might work as intended, or mayhaps some other disgruntled lord father will be unmuzzling his hunting dogs, but when one goes to war, there are always little people caught up in it's ravishments.
And it may fail because the little mousette is pious and chaste like the good little trueborn lady she pretends to be. But The Kraken suspects that with such a domineering and protective mother, it may prove to be unable to avoid ending up as the main course for the feast to be prepared for the Fox. More likely than some inborn taint on her soul making her lust for such forbidden cheese overcome her senses, The Kraken would think, but men are inclined to believe the latter justification as more plausible as to why the mousette might bite.

"If what I have heard is true, the fox is never truly sated, for all that he makes significant efforts in the attempting. Occasionally, I presume, even with his wife. I am not certain yet as to if he remains the master of his urges, or if his urges drive him, but that he will regardless have the impulse is clear. But that is obvious to him as well, so he will likely have brought a 'snack' for his urges. Making the snack temporarily unappetising is likely all that would be required there. Hopefully. Pointing him in the right direction will likely be harder, and will likely have to be improvised depending on circumstances.
"A fox would naturally view a little mouse as appetising prey, so he would be acting according to his nature. The mousette defying the mouse's will, however, is rather against their nature, as I understand it, and is likely to be rather more difficult to accomplish."

The Kraken largely does not believe the fox thinks that far ahead in matters of the fiery heart. She herself might as well armor herself in her heritage and lead him on for a while but ultimately nowhere, but someone else would be needed to suggest that the mousette might be of a disposition to have a bit of the cheese, though the scheme would indeed hinge on this actually being the case, of this The Kraken has observed nothing suggesting it being so, they would simply need to toss the bones and see if they are lucky. But the little one would surely not dare take the cheese if the mother's eyes are upon her.

"Hmmm." Laena considers a few moments. "A distraction, then. But what could distract a mother from her child?" After a few moments, a small smile crosses her face. "Her other child. I have a sister with a well-earned reputation for mischief, with - to put it mildly - no love for the mousette." Lady Mya's feud with Lady Denyse was brutal and public throughout the Black Tourney. "Though to my knowledge, she's yet to say anything publicaly about the mousette's sibling. Still, her simply being *near* the sibling would likely provoke the mouse's attention, for at least a while.
"I may be able to point the fox in the mousette's direction myself. Maybe. He is not to be underestimated." Laena silently sighs a bit. Ysilla wanted to know what her brother was up to, and her agents had been fairly useless. It seems she was due another meeting with her brother, sooner rather than later.

Such a large family with so many spectacular individuals does have it's advantages, The kraken notes, she might be rather envious if not for all the squabbles, family infighting is the worst. And no, no dragon should ever be underestimated, but what are the odds that he will be mad at a scheme which might lead to tasty roasted rodent? He might even volunteer, but it might not be wise for the schemers to tip their hand. But it does sound like there is a good plan in motion. It will likely fail somewhere, all plans do, what makes it a good plan is that nothing really bad would happen if it fails spectacularly.

A small nod. "It may or may not be useful, but at least it won't be boring."
