Surely there would be nothing stopping us from speaking of his actions in public if he doesn't co-operate privately? We may not get to hang around in his keep for long, but it's not like we couldn't defame him outside of it after we leave. I certainly don't see Trystane staying quiet if he's defied. I think privately telling someone "Do this thing or I'll tell everyone what a hypocritical sleazebag you are", for example, is the kind of thing there is plenty of precedent for, and barring us from speaking of the matter in public if we engage the lord privately seems weirdly artificial. I'm not asking for two separate audiences. I'm looking at doing the meeting privately and using public shaming as a potential part of the intrigue if I exhaust the other arguments and he's still saying no.

You can only try to influence him once. Up to you what to do if he says no in private, but you cannot make him change his mind once he's said no. He'll just double down on his decision (and be pissed), can resolve such outbursts through the rumor system.

Lets say public, for the sake of getting this moving/completed.

Ok. Public it is.
Trystane presents himself and his companions at the keep, seeking an audience with Lord Mandrake. He does not specify the nature of the petition, only that he wishes to make one. Audience Test - Status (Reputation) + Anointed: 6d6k4+2 18

Audience is an automatic success.
If doing public, you're calling him out in the courtyard in front of everyone (simple intrigue (taunt)).

Ooc:
I came across this and would like to button it up if still possible. As i dont think Trystane is still around but he was going to roll, if I dig through his old post and figure his die can i roll for him?
I imagine one roll, public audience and done.

It's just a TN 11 if you do public shaming and I think Roland saved his daily boosters?
You might prefer the more diplomatic route perhaps? In which case I could roll for Trystane.

Id be happy with either, but lean towards letting Roland for it in front of an audience.

Burnt Wood at Deeproote - Persuade (Convince) + Pious + glory TN17: 5d6k4+2 14Roland tried, but his words made little impression on the Lord. [OOC: sorry everyone, I wasn't a good choice for this and screwed it up! Shouldn't have done the private option, not well suited to Roland's make-up. Sorry Mikel, didn't have the window open and forgot what you'd requested so sorry for countermanding your request.]

[OOC] Success ? I thought Roland was public shaming and Trystane would have been private audience?

[OOC] Success ? I thought Roland was public shaming and Trystane would have been private audience? [OOC: afraid not, I botched things with the wrong option in my orokos roll and look forward to any consequences. Sorry - you were clear on what option you wanted and I screwed up.]

Whether it was the generous offer of refreshments for such esteemed visitors that held Trystane's tongue, Roland's own pride or some combination that made the latter broach the subject with Lord Mandrake only they themselves might know. But once the topic was raised, so faded their hosts efforts to make a good impression on the three knights of renown from far away even if he did seem to perhaps assume that Ser Mikel was just a hanger on in the company of a Tourney Champion and a Great Bastard. The mood in his solar darkened as if heavy dark clouds suddenly rolls across a blue sky, sharply rejecting to entertain any thought on the matter and suggesting that he will pretend not to have heard a peasant's vile slander against his betters repeated in his own halls, for surely, Ser Roland and his companions did not come here as guests under his roof only to repeat such insulting insinuation by a man not bound by the oaths and honor of chivalry against the very same? He proceeds to ask if there were any real business to be conducted here, clearly signalling that he expects there to be none, and that he expects the trio to leave forthwith.
-2 disposition towards Mikel, Roland and Trystane from Lord Mandrake.

Their failure weighted heavily on Mikel. He thought more then once of bringing arms inti the matter but that would not make anything better, except perhaps briefly. But then would come hangings or beheadings, perhaps after being broken on a rack or abused in public along with those he had brought into the situation and those he had sought to save. The one thing he knew that he could do, despite all that he could not, was to never forget.
