Allyria has no more tears, her child is gone, she seems peaceful and asleep, but little Ashara is gone, gone forever, and she had cried and screamed and tore at the earth, cursing all the seven, pleading for them to give her back. But they were silent, as silent as they ever were to the pleas of a grieving mother. This hurts more than she ever had known, a worse helplessness than she felt when the prince of nightmares forced himself between her legs, worse pain than when they told her to speak no word of it, all those years she believed it was her own fault. From this pain there will be no release, nothing can bring Ashara back, nothing can make the grief go away like Ulbert had taken away her pain by telling her that the monster who took her by force and the fiends that enabled him, including his own father, were to blame, solely to blame, them and no other. Repeating the truth like the stubborn, unyielding good man he always have been, however many times he needed to root out the tales that she and others had told herself over and over again until she forgot that they were all lies.
If Ronnel had not schemed and plotted, her little girl might yet be safe at Sunspear, or at least have practiced her dancing well enough to have lived, at least she had taken the life of her assailant, something any mother would be proud of, though maybe not these northron hen's, but pride does not bring anyone back from the dead. The honors afforded Ashara is of little comfort to her, she is gone, that a king reads an eulogy written by his maester does not bring her back, that Ser Daemon, the one they call Blackfyre and some wants to put on the throne, speaks movingly, recalling in great detail how pleasant her little girl was to get to know during a brief meeting only brings back memories that in this moment contains only pain. That some of the greatest knights of the realm stood vigil in her honor does nothing to heal a wounded heart. She welcomes the anger as some scum decides to take the opportunity to insult her daughter, she should be honored by the renowned knights offering their swords in answer, but she does not want gallant knights of fine reputation, she wants someone that will beat them savagely, pound them until they weep for mercy, and then kill them like the dogs they are.
Restrictions: Only characters present at a Midsummer Night's Feast may partake.
NPC Participation: Each player may nominate a character they would like to see featured, NPC's generally will not test for eulogies (except to deliver insults).
Offer an Eulogy: Chivalrous knights may stand vigil, Endurance (Stamina) TN 12, gain +2 on the Eulogy tests upon a success.
Status (Reputation)+chivalry/virtue TN 15 to be allowed to speak during the ceremony, there is no consequences for failure. Characters affiliated with Starkwood succeeds automatically.
Make the following tests when making a speech, adding chivalry/virtue: Language(Breeding) TN 12 Cunning(Memory) or Knowledge(Education) TN 12 Persuasion(Convince) or Deception(Act) TN 12
-Success on all three tests: +1 chivalry/virtue -Disposition towards you from Starkwood NPC's: +1 per 3 DoS (cannot move past +5) -For each three non-Starkwood PC's that succeeds on all three tests, House Starkwood gains +1 influence. -Critical Failure: As accidental Insult, as noted below.
Offering insult: There are two kinds of insult to be offered: -Accidental, you slip up and say or do something highly inappropriate, this counts as a result of 0 DoS for Eulogies. No tests are required. -2 Disposition with Starkwood NPC's, which can be reduced to -1 by immediate apology. Starkwood PC's decides whether or not to accept apologies freely given or demand a duel (typically under first blood conditions). -Intentional, in order to deliver this you may follow the steps outlined in the eulogy (gaining no bonuses from standing vigil), and use incite or taunt instead. Succeeding on all three tests grants a point of Fire (only kept if not defeated in challenges). Insult is delivered whether you succeed or not. An intentional insult always results in a challenge to be issued, and -5 Disposition with Starkwood NPC's. No chivalry or influence is gained for this option.
Answering Insults: A chivalrous knight that did not offer an insult, may offer to answer it. Persuasion (Convince) +Chivalry TN 12 Status (Reputation) +Chivalry TN 12
Success on both tests: +1 Chivalry, be accepted as a champion. Critical Failure: As accidental insult.
Characters affiliated with House Starkwood: -May still stand as champion (but gains no chivalry) if failed (or skipped) the tests. -Suffers -1 Influence on critical failure.
Starkwood PC's gets the first pick (sorted by DoS scored), followed by others (sorted by DoS scored), re-rolls are used for tie-breakers.
Knights standing for a non-knighted character that were challenged can retain the +1 chivalry granted, provided they succeed on a persuasion (convince or bluff) + chivalry TN 12 test to insist that they do this to provide fair representation. On a critical failure they suffer the same disposition hit with Starkwoods as if they had offered the insult.
To the winners of ensuing duels (if opponent is deemed noteworthy): +1 Glory.
There will be a sufficient amount of knights of little renown (and likely not challenging) that agreed too readily to various prejudiced statements to go around for everyone wanting to let out some steam, although in most cases, such scenes can be waived as resulting in a relatively quick yield and apology. Scenes involving NPC's answering insults are generally assumed to go this way.
Follow the trail of blood
All TN's are hidden, they may also vary for specific characters, additionally, with the exception of cunning, there is a "crowding out" penalty, TN's will start to rise if too many characters attempts the same test (including assists/coordinate).
Any character may attempt Cunning (Logic) and Knowledge (Streetwise).
Only characters permitted by the Starkwoods (although some NPC's might not be hindered) may access the crime scene to make the following tests:
Warfare (Notice) Survival (Track)
Assists/coordinate are possible by foregoing one's own corresponding test.
Benefits/Drawbacks considerations: Charismatic: Gain +1 on the three tests for delivering an Eulogy, and for the tests to answer insults. Famous: Apply audience bonuses to the status tests for delivering an Eulogy and offering to answer insults. Great Bastard: Gain +1D to the status test for delivering an Eulogy. Head of House: Apply audience bonuses to the status test for delivering an Eulogy. Orator: Gain +1b on three tests for delivering an Eulogy. True Knight: Gain bonuses if answering insult. Honor-Bound: Triggers to compel answering insults, prevent giving intentional insult or stand for someone giving intentional insult. Prejudiced (Cruelty): Triggers to compel answering intentional insults. Prejudiced (Dornish): Triggers to compel insult (your choice of accidental or intentional). Proud: Triggers to compel, A: Do all Following the trail tests (if having 3D or better dicepool) available to you. B: Do not accept assistance. C: Do not assist others. D: Vote against using influence and points to enlist assistance from NPC's. Vainglorious: Triggers to compel offering one's sword to anyone who would take it (may pick one's preference in case of more than one offer)

Where Lady Allyria is burning up with red hot rage, scarcely contained. Lord Ulbert is stoic, his cold fury visible only in the tension of his every fiber of being. His endurance and fortitude, mentally as well as physically helps him maintain a strong and solid rock for the rest of the family to support themselves on. He is the first to demand that the scene of the black deed is secured, lest it be ruined by the careless and curious. Once his mother stopped gripping and clawing him so that he bled, Ser Symon Starkwood found his sword and promptly ruined it on his tent-post, along with with the tent-post. Only when the canvas collapsed on top of him did he hand it to his squire with the command of sharpening it to perfection. Then he resolves to find whoever it was that he had imagined the pole to be. Ser Aerion Flowers had not been so close to Lady Ashara, but she had been family, and he cared about her all the same. He wants to what he can for her and the family he has left. But his feelings of grief and anger is only a tenth of the intensity of the worry for what his sister might be about to do. Ser Brynden Rivers is soon in arriving to where the bodies remains warm, tasked by King Daeron to oversee the royal investigation, he has two dozen men stationed there to keep anyone near the trail without his permission.

...He lingers, watching the swaying of her hips as she leaves. Alena was everything that was said of dornish women and he idly wondered if the same was true of Ashara...
Eventually he gets dressed and finds a little pond where he splashes his face. In the reflection there is a wide-mouthed fool grinning back at him.
Gods that felt good.... It was late. But the summers in the Reach never seem to go truly dark. A pale moon stood high and proud in the night sky, casting long shadows over the grounds of the Targaryen pleasure palace, painting the world in a ghostly silver. Titus was in no hurry as he sauntered back from the the little secluded spot of the vast garden where him and Alena had... watched the stars. What a woman, he thought to himself. But something isn't right. Nearing the palace he hears commotion. Servants and guards and rushing somewhere, he sees a woman crying. Following the guards he picks up his pace and it swiftly turns into a run and then a mad dash as he hears a name, "Lady Ashara Starkwood". He arrives just as her uncle, The Sword of the Morning, white cloak and arms lifts her up and carries her away. A deep red staining the side of her dress. ... All night he stood vigil. Praying for her safe passage and cursing the men who brought this upon her. In the cold night of the Sept where she is laid out imahes flashers before his mind. Proud, dark eyes surrounded by the marbles faces of Gardners Kings telling him that worlds would not suffice to right what is wrong. Strong and firm she stood in that garden, like an iron rod. Unrelenting and beautiful. He saw the same dark eyes, but different - softer, now in a great hall, catching hold of his from yards away, other faces blurring as the danced. Oh, how she danced. And how those dark eyes grew filled with... fear? Anger? He sees that unrelenting, proud beauty give way for tears. Titus' head is held low, his eyes are tired and sad as other images flashes before him, things yet come to pass and things that now never will. Dark, proud eyes framed by a white veil, Ashara draped in the colours of House Blackbriar in the Sept at Gyldenhaal. The sound of laughter and running and music and dancing and a pair of smaller, dark eyes looking up at him... The sept is silent. A roaring silence, screaming of a life that never was, of a girl who never got to grow old, of unborn children and a world of bitter hatred. Titus barely remembers the words he spoke but the came from the heart. And whoever had robbed the world of those dark, proud eyes will pay everything. NPC Participation: I'd like to see Lord Owen Roxton, he's been fairly underused as of yet and being the father of two girls I'm sure this hits home for him. After the ceremony Lord Olyvar Yronwood, having found himself in the company of men of foul dispositions towards those of olive skin, quips that they should honor her at her best. After all, as he liked to say, the only good Rhoynar are dead Rhoynar, and they should celebrate the ones who depart this world without leaving any more of their kind behind. When grabbed by the shoulder and asked to recant his words, he refuses to do so. Ser Jonothor Blackwell had ignored the entire ceremony, instead arriving as people file out of the sept to assault the Starkwoods with a barrage of insults, were it not for the firm hand of Lord Ulbert, Ser Symon would have thrown himself at this blackguard. Ser Symon might have killed the Scorpionbane, but that was in the melee, and Ser Lambert had been severely weakened. Loosing both his children between to sunsets is not on the agenda today. Self-Control: 3d6 12 So Olyvar only accidentally slips up, but refuses to apologise: -2 Disposition with Starkwoods Jonothor gives full stop intentional insult. -5 Disposition with Starkwoods Thematically appropriate that whoever gets to challenge Olyvar is the one referred to in the IC. Most PC's with Fighting 5 should be at least a little better than Olyvar, this is a duel that would be appropriate to have under first blood conditions (too proud to back down, but not putting his heart in it), on foot possible. -1 Glory for defeating him. Jonothor is tougher, probably would be a 50-50 duel sword on sword against most PC's with Fighting 5, (but his AH isn't all that good, so an opening lance charge can tip the scales). Can do first blood conditions, but he's spoiling for a real fight. If no PC feels inclined to take on the challenge, Roger Dayne with Dawn can do it. -Extra difficulty makes it 2 Glory for defeating him. The rest? There may be some worth glory for PC's with Fighting 4.

Daeron didn't particularly know Lady Ashara, somehow they had missed crossing paths at the entirety of the Black Tourney, and he didn't particularly care for or trust the sanctimonious Starkwoods, given that their previous lord was a grasping pimp. However, what they had suffered today was cold-blooded murder, and under the roof of the king at that. If anything it was evidence of King Daeron II's weakness. Just as he stood against the mob at Highgarden to defend innocents within the Merryweather household, so would he honor an innocent life, even if her family was the enemy. So once more, he found himself standing in vigil and speaking words over the fallen. He did not know Lady Ashara, but by this point had developed an articulate and moving script that managed to fit most funerary services. What he hadn't expected were the poisonous words that followed. Some slips of the tongue could be expected and forgiven, but outright insults? This was neither the time nor the place and it was in the spirit and example of Ser Daemon that he offered to stand against those who might sully this ceremony. "I regret that I had not seen my cousin for some time, and that I only got to speak to her briefly last night. I assumed we would have more time to catch up," Trystane begins, solemnly. "Had I known what would transpire, I'd have kept her much closer. I'd give anything to have been able to protect her from her killer. But thinking of 'what if' can only bring more sorrow. It heartens me greatly to see so many here to pay respects to her and share their love. Ashara was good at that, inspiring love and respect. And it pains me even more to feel her absence so permanently, so far before her time." The sadness in his expression turns to grim determination. "Rest assured, I will lend all the help I can to House Starkwood to find out who did this. And when we find out, those responsible will pay dearly. What we sow in life, we reap in eternity." A piece of pious waffle that he wasn't sure he believed, but he had to hope it was true, in this case at least. He stepped down and went to his aunt and uncle, hugging them closely. "I will help find who did this, and gut them alive. I swear it," he said in a low voice, hiding the words in the embrace. *** When Eoric Applehouse started his tirade, Trystane strode up to him, eyes full of fury as some calmer heads tried to quiet the foul-mouthed Blackbriar knight. "Shut your vile mouth, you honourless dog!" Trystane shouted at him, jabbing a fiercely accusatory finger, a couple of Starkwood sworn swords barely holding him back from just punching Eoric in the face. "Meet me on the field tomorrow, and I will make you eat those badly chosen words," Trystane growled, issuing his challenge. Post by Lynesse Daverhyl on Apr 15, 2019 3:34:04 GMT 1
Lynesse went to Ashara Starkwood’s wake with every intention of mourning the lady, especially as her cousin Ser Titus was to stand vigil. No-one deserved such a fate, and such assassins as slew her were the very bane of nobility throughout the Reach. She asked for permission to speak, and found that her cousin’s vigil had won her some small tolerance at the ceremony. Though only a young ward, perhaps she could offer her own experience with assassination attempts against the Daverhyl heirs to encourage all here to help catch the culprits. It would be nice to know such dastardly attempts by her Rhoynish uncles would yield some sweet fruit. Rhoynish like Ashara, like many of her mourners, Lynesse only truly realised when she had been given permission to speak and saw the faces looking back at her. Mourners who, though they had lost kin today, had surely antagonised many in the Reach with the frictions their unnatural mingling had brought. Was today not another warning against such dalliances, against the sowing of such bitter seeds and their damned fruit? Though Lynesse had come here with good intentions, she could not keep to pleasantries when such obvious truths, ignored, had claimed another life. As she came to the end of a brief, polite, eulogy, she could keep these words in no longer. “We are a people apart, in culture, appearance, belief, nobility, and custom. Though the King’s law has decreed us one folk, it was the gods who put the Red Mountains between our peoples to keep them apart. Though many have sought peace with good intentions, they have tried for too much too quickly, and having acted against the will of the seven, and have sown the cursed crop we see before us. I pray no more suffer as Lady Ashara has, the price of fair intentions, ill-conceived.”
Her own words echoing in her ears, Lynesse made a direct line for the exit as soon as she had finished. TToS - Resist Prejudice TN 15: 5d6k4 13 Oh. Oh No. TToS - Reputation to Speak TN 15 : 5d6k4+3 23 No. Don’t do it. Offering intentional Insult - Victim Blaming

Tweaked the "stand for a non-knight" option somewhat so that you follow the same procedure whether you want to stand against the insults or to stand for a non-knight (such as Lynesse), but you need to succeed on the persuasion test to retain the chivalry granted.
A PC can offer to stand for Lynesse, alternatively an NPC that should be a suitable challenge for Trystane will step forward (Other PC's have Fighting 5 and thus should have some options, if someone other than Trystane goes up against him, the NPC will be a more capable one). She gains a point of Fire if her champion wins. One need not roll to be allowed to stand for Lynesse (but no chivalry gain in that case).
PC vs PC standing for Lynesse is possible (first blood conditions strongly encouraged in that case), but an NPC deemed to be a suitable challenge for the PC standing for her can also be provided.
(Hopefully narrator's perception of "suitable challenges" is more accurate than previously observed)

Lord Owen Roxton was born a knight, noble, honorable, looking every bit the part, though the years ave wrinkled his face and streaked his hair and beard with gray, his body appears as firm and fit as ever. Broad shouldered, tall and proud. Orphan-Maker on proud display as he stands a tireless vigil, hands clasping the lowered sword in a gesture of respect. His steely blue eyes radiates a serenity of prayer and contemplation. Ser Imry arrives to honor Ashara, if only due to Lord Florent's insistence, prayers and contemplation is not on his mind. Only ruminations of how Ashara had saved Lyanna's life. But she did not do him any favors. Lyanna clearly wanted to die, why else had she jumped? It would be better that way. Lyanna would be freed of him. Freed of the life she did not want. She could rejoin her dear papa in the Heavens. And he could pursue the hand of the likes of Lady Daena Roxton. Whether The Seven sees fit to shame him for such thoughts or he simply lacks the fortitude of heart and mind of a true knight, who can say? But his eyes dose off and he gets shook awake again by a sudden encounter with the marbled floor. His Eulogy is stiff and unimpressive, the lines probably given to him word by word by his liege lord, but it's delivery proves the fears stirred in Lord Florent and others by his earlier failure unfounded. He offers his sword in one final service to Lady Ashara with no more conviction than should be expected of a knight.
Owen Roxton stands vigil, holds eulogy, answers insult, presumably proceeds with some off-screen ass-kicking. Ashara did saved his wife, so it's only proper that he gets to roll: Stands vigil: 3d6 5Status: 4d6+3 20 Language: 3d6k2+3 12Cunning: 3d6+3 13Persuasion: 4d6+3 18Answer insult: Persuasion/Status: 2#4d6+3 16 17Imry counts as a PC for the purposes of Starkwoods winning influence. +1 Disposition with Starkwood NPC's. Ashara was no friend of Addam, but his absence from the vigil would be noticed, so he stood with the scores of other knights present. The service was long and boring, and Addam's mind soon began to wander as the speeches went on and on. He was brought back to reality when cries ring out throughout the sept. It seemed the Blackbriar scion had said something to offend the Starkwoods, and they wanted blood. Even Addam wasn't sure why he stepped forward, maybe it was a push from the gods or maybe he was just looking to showcase his prowess in combat. Whatever was the case, he was going to offer his sword for the lady from Mustard Hall. "I am sure my lady meant no offense," said to the crowd. "But if blood must be spilt, then so be it." Addam drew his sword, offering it to Lynesse as he dropped to one knee before her "My lady, if you will it, let me stand for you as your champion. It would not be fair to have your words twisted without the chance to prove their innocent intentions."

Ser Addam was well made, with chiselled features and the fair features common, but not unique, to the Targaryen line. He certainly had the look of a gallant knight about him, and would have drawn her eye during the festivities, had she not been distracted by family politics. Still, would his function match his form, when put to the test?
Lynesse would have rather relied on family than an unknown knight to guard her honour, But the knights of her family name were treacherous blackguards, while Ser Balon was absent from Summerhall. Ser Titus was present, but he had stood vigil for Ashara, and had clearly known the young noblewoman. Lynesse would not compromise his honour by asking for his sword.
Her words are directed at Ser Addam, but likely to be heard by many around her, as attention turned to them both. “I did not hope to cause offense or insult, Ser Addam, and I accept your offer with heartfelt thanks, though it grieves me that such a matter be settled with the tools of war. I pray, do no more harm than honour compels, for I would not see further ill-omens heaped upon the King’s Summer Palace or a grieving family.”
Updated original post with investigation rolls now that I’m definitely not getting access to the murder scene from the Starkwoods.

I was right! The Lady Ashara was truly threatened at Highgarden. A testament to the Iron Crane's vigilance that she survived the Black Tourney, would that he still had watch over her.A man that saw snarks and grumpkins everywhere saw his worst concerns confirmed. He had fought beside Starkwood men in Highgarden's melee and esteemed their Lord despite his distaste for the man's heir. "Lord Starkwood, if by my lance or my mind I can aid your family in this matter you need but ask." All present knew that Roland was likely to be of much more use in one of the spheres than the other, but at least he did not force his involvement where it was unneeded. The knight was clearly agitated at events given his fondness for Ashara and her mooted betrothal to his nephew, House Cordwayner's humble emblem restraining him from making a nuisance of himself over what he regarded as a matter of family pride.

A man at arms had roused him from sleep and told him what happened. "Do I have time for armor?" Mikel asked, "Yes." Was the answer as the man at arms left, either returning to the others or on some other task. Harold was already laying out the pieces as Mikel dressed, then he was armored and armed and they made for the Great Hall. Mikel was fond of Ashara, and when he saw her lying in her own blood, mostly covered by a cloak while his Lord and his Lord’s lady stood over her, he fought his own emotions down. While he took to his slow, deep breathing Mikel studied the hall. Men at Arms kept the room clear of anybody not associated to the scene. Speaking with Ser Ramsay Starkwood Mikel learned what the guards had done, were doing, and what still needed to be done. Breaking away Mikel put himself to use.
[OOC: Mikel will be assisting Davos in his warfare check for +2, and Laena for +1 on her cunning check]
