Lynesse waited nervously for Septon Castus, outside of his offices, wondering if she had made a terrible choice.
No. She steeled herself. Her goals would require a series of gambles, and risks. She may not have power or authority to cushion miscalculation, but she must nevertheless put herself to the hazard.
She smoothed the front of her dress, permitting herself the simple gesture of anxiety. Her dress was reserved, its colours slightly muted. A gesture of piety and, she hoped, sincerity.

Septon Castos is old enough to be Lynesse's grandfather, his head is covered with thin grey curls through which his scalp can be seen, some black hairs remains in his well groomed and close cropped beard. At the sight of her, his face lights up with an uncomfortable hunger, but such thoughts he appears to banish with ease. A good and proper septon would punish himself with only bread and water to purge himself of such sinful desires, but Castos is hardly a good and proper septon, now is he? He offers some wine, playing the good host, and wonders what might have brought a young lady to seek his guidance.

Lynesse shakes off a moment’s discomfort, adopting as best she could the demeanour of the humble supplicant. Following her words with Septon Abelar she had decided that the best course here was one that omitted Abelar’s involvement entirely and cast herself in the role of a fellow victim of another’s plot. She dared not think of what might happen should this ruse fail, channelling those nerves directly into the persona she tried to wear around her like armour. This noble lady was much like her, though more fearful, more anxious, more dutiful, and a little less intelligent. She greeted the Septon with a tremulous smile “Father Castus, thank you for seeing me on such short notice. My father often spoke highly of you on his return from visits to Oldtown when I was a child. I wish my visit could come at a more fortuitious time, but I am driven here by circumstances beyond my control.” She took the offerred wine and launched into her tale. Best to strike while the iron was hot. “Two day’s past I was approached by a courier, who bade me meet with his master. In normal circumstances I would never agree to such a meeting, but the servant showed a great knowledge of…” Lynesse paused uncomfortably, “family secrets and my own personal movements. Concerned for my own safety, I felt I had no choice but to meet him.” “This man, whose face was kept behind a partition, expressed great anger that members of my house had taken up the cause against Septon Abelar. My Uncle, Sandor challenged and slew a knight, Ser Roland Cordwayner, who had declared Abelar innocent, and my Uncle, Ser Eustace, has preached to large crowds against Father Abelar’s teachings.” “This man declared that in seeking to pressure the tribunal into a guilty verdict, my uncles had heaped great sin upon my family name, but that he had decided that I could atone for that. He instructed me with words to say to a few minor nobles, to stoke some popular feeling for Father Abelar. I refused and he”, again Lynesse paused, nervously pressing down a minor crease in her dress, “he produced a small comb that had gone missing from my armoire not a week ago, at Gyldenhaal, and said there were many in Blackbriar lands and throughout the Reach that felt the same as he about those who sought to tarnish Abelar’s name, even without the Good Septon’s urging.” “Father Castus, this man demonstrated a great deal of knowledge about myself and my family, and seems to have a great many folk willing to do his work in Oldtown as well. The way he spoke had an edge to it that made me think him very dangerous, and willing to do great harm in pursuit of his goals. I admit that I am a young maid, and perhaps not the best judge of such men,” she admits, humbly, “but that was my impression.” “He gave me no name, and I did not recognise his voice, though his manner showed a man familiar with courtly etiquette. He told me that I should simply call him Stranger, as he did the gods’ will, but would never be thanked for it. He bade me deliver you a message.”
It was not difficult for Lynesse to wear the facade of an anxious young lady waiting upon the Septon's response as though her very life might depend on it. Indeed, little acting was involved at all.

Castos listens intently, clearly worried, even more so for the message he apparently suspects will be forthcoming. He tries to hide it, but Lynesse reads him like an open book. He re-assures her that The Seven Who Are One watches over her, and will not let her come to harm. And warns that such individuals can hardly be trusted with anything they say.

“Thank you for your kind words Septon, it is reassuring to know that in such trying times, we can turn to the gods for reassurance,” Lynesse replied, “I too thought this Stranger to be some blowhard putting on airs and graces of powers he did not truly hold.” She produces a small wooden comb engraven with the Daverhyl family crest, “and yet he proved to me that he can send an agent into my very chamber in a castle guarded by some of the finest knights and men-at-arms in all the Reach.” “Father, I cannot say if this Stranger’s words to you are true or false, as such affairs are not my concern and I do my best to ignore rumour and gossip, but…” she pauses uncomfortably, wringing her hands in her lap, “he claims that you have a…paramour and that he will produce witnesses to that affect if you do not secure Father Abelar's acquittal.” Beneath an abashed façade, Lynesse watched the Septon’s face carefully, reading his immediate reaction to these words. He must be convinced of her sincerity before she could ensure his compliance with Father’s Abelar’s plan.
Aiming for a total victory here, Lynesse will spend a DP to remove a test dice and a DoS from Castus’s influence roll, if permitted. Castos' red face belies his claims of this being utter nonsense, he is a septon sworn to The Seven Who Are One, he took an oath of celibacy and Gods be Good, he has kept it. So nothing to worry about there. No, nothing at all.
Remember DP procedure: greatbastards.boards.net/thread/825/reporting-influence-glory-wealth-dpAlso, you get charismatic+1 on all those tests, which means you won initiative, DP spent probably makes this a moot point. ID: 11 DR: 3 Composure: 3/12 Objective: Convince Lynesse to drop the matter. Convince: 6d6k3+1 13 Nah. You can go ahead and roll several rounds at once, obvious where this is going.

Father, I would certainly never spread such slander about anyone, let alone a Septon of the faith," Lynesse reassures him, "But alas I can make no such promise on behalf of the one who sent me here, and who would not have done so unless he was willing to stoop so low." "The only way to keep such rumour off the streets is to follow his will. You need not concern yourself with me. I am a daughter of House Daverhyl, and a grandaughter of House Hightower. I will always seek to serve the gods and their annointed representatives."

R4 action does not trigger, leading Lynesse to defeat him with Act emulating Convince.

Castos huffs and puffs, and repeats his lies of this being utter nonsense, the guilt and fear on his face could not be clearer to Lynesse, even if someone had written guilty and afraid on his brow. He asks, pleads, hopes, that Lynesse will not speak with anyone about this such horrible rumors and allegations, having grown up in Oldtown, surely she must know how fond the patrons of taverns were of scandalous and ribald tales involving the good men and women of the faith? They cared not for the truth, only for their own vile entertainment, not knowing and not caring how such vile slander spread justified succumbing to their own base lusts.
This man will be a good sinful septon and meekly do as he is bid, Lynesse is sure of it, a craven rat paddling along the path of least resistance through the sewage drain to seek refuge in a dark filthy corner.
He's so outmatched that he won't bother with the frustration and takes defeat on R3.
Convinced to support Abelar.
