All across The Reach as the raven flies, words of deeds good and foul spreads upon the wind, and whispered secrets seeps into nooks and crannies. Some tales are oft repeated, some less so. This lady is going to marry this knight. That lord is having a paramour on the side. A hundred theories on who murdered Lord Hightower. Did Butterbumps really save The Testimony of Mushroom? These and a thousand other tales, some more believable than others, are filling the halls of nobles, the taverns of towns, the inns upon crossroads.
Characters may attempt as many of the below tests as they like, each DoS offers a random rumor (duplicate results possible).
One may raise the TN of one test to 12 and mark the roll description with a specific topic or person of interest, this will make the DoS scored on this test bring forth rumors from the standard list involving it (if any). It may also be possible to learn information not on the standard list, typically requiring more than 1 DoS to be revealed. Any excess DoS provides random rumors. One may do this for all tests (asking for different topics, or focusing on the same ones).
It is possible that the result is a "blank", meaning that while the character learns something interesting, the narrator may not have written up enough secrets and pieces of hearsay to give an actual result, in this case, players are encouraged to suggest something that might serve as a story hook.
In the case of a critical failure, players are encouraged to suggest that their character becomes convinced of something which can be used as a story hook (and probably is absolutely not true and likely to get them into trouble).
Mingle with movers and shakers: Awareness (notice) TN 9 Persuasion (charm) TN 9 Status (reputation) TN 9

*I added the knightly chivalry bonus to my persuasion roll. I got 1 DoS whether or not it should be added to the test.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ During Balon's travels he made sure to speak with as many lords, ladies, and knights as possible. Staying informed was just as important as swaying people to the cause of Fire. Using the name of Lord Gormon carried weight and it assisted Balon in finding out rumors and tidbits of information. He paid particular attention to any rumor regarding House Hightower. With the death of Lord Jon the issue of regency was sure to be coming to a head and Balon wanted to make sure the *right* person was put in charge of the second most powerful house in the Reach. There was also a personal interest Balon had in the Hightowers. He'd heard his brother Titus had crowned Lady Janna the Queen of Love and Beauty at a local tournament. How apropos it'd be if Titus married the niece of the knight their mother had wanted to marry all those years ago. Of course she was only fourteen but that just meant Titus would get to be the first to show her how to use a lance. Who am I kidding, he's far too much of a gentleman to wait for the bedding ceremony. Me though....

Post by Roland Cordwayner on Mar 11, 2019 10:58:26 GMT 1
Roland was intent upon getting to the truth of the tales about House Cordwayner and the parentage of his niece and nephew. At tournaments he sought out men and women who knew Ser Orton Ambrose well, for the man was a key part of the puzzle. Malyk had given Roland good reason to doubt the man's motives or his master's, but Roland weighed this against his own bitter experience of Lady Maegelle driving good men from Hammerhal. He trusted Septon Abelar to inquire about the matter, but a delay seemed inevitable given the Star Tribunal and House Cordwayner's honour could not afford delay. The Seven themselves seemed to guide Roland, giving him the right words to follow this tale, whatever unpleasantness is might lead to. Beyond that, the unpleasant lessons in intrigue he had learned at Highgarden at least proved useful. Newly attuned to political necessities he noticed all sorts of strange comings and goings, and was well educated enough to put the disparate facts hinted at together. While still lower in rank than many nobles, Roland's Cordwayner blood seemed to compensate and men spoke up to impress one of his lineage, even if they were unimpressed by Roland's personal status. P1 Speakers & Listeners Persuasion Charm TN 12 (Orton Ambrose) Awarenes/Knowledge/Status TN9: 4d6k3 17 3#3d6 13 15 8 +2 on the last roll from BotA for another DoS (did it on the status roll for flavour). - 2 DoS on Orton Ambrose specific roll. Orokos is behind this story arc! [Intent is to verify his story about the legitimacy scandal at House Cordwayner by speaking to him directly if possible, or at the very least a thorough investigation in to how reliable he is.] - 4 DoS on the other rumours.

You can only do each listed roll once, (for example, awareness for hooded man, charm for House Hightower and Reputation for Joanna Peake), so unless you want the first (random) set to count, you'll have to redo that.

Under the protective wing of House Blackbriar, Lynesse made every use of opportunities to move amidst the social circles of the Reach, connecting with old friends from Oldtown, and new acquaintances in connected to the Blackbriar family. She listened attentively to rumour, laughed cheerfully at various attempts at humour, and dealt cheerfully in all manner of gossip about the uncouth Dornsih, particularly those with connections in the Reach. She listened as well for word from House Hightower, concerned as she was for the fate of her grandfather's vassal and her many friends from her two years in the House. Titus chiefly travels the Marshes and lands below the Mander in the moons passing The Black Tournament. After his victory against Ser Dennis Hightower and his crowning of Lady Janna in The Uplands he finds many men in taverns, camps and inns keen to share tales and rumours of this ancient house, who's undecided regency has the realm's eyes fixed upon it. But his attention is not only on the uncertain future of this family, but that of his own. Abelar might have brought forth the death of his father, but before such madness claimed Donnel's life and forfeited that of the Septon he had charged Titus with the duty shielding his kin from blades bold and hidden. Donnel's bones had been lain to rest in Gyldenhaal but his family was no longer there. His family, living in voluntary exile from Gyldenhaal after the vicious and false slander of his mother had poisoned that court, now remained at Starpike and Delia had oft quipped that they where more Peake than Blackbriar anyway - and not a bad thing either. Titus was proud to bear the name of Blackbriar, he was proud to be his Father's son. But to be the nephew of weak and uncaring Lord Jon? No. Rather a Peake then. And Titus would not fail his new family, his real family as he had done his father. S&L - Vindictive Resist - Will (Ded) - TN12: 4d6 15 Pass Laena spent what others would consider an obsessively long time trying to track the movements of a particular merchant. Where he went, who he spoke to. Everything. And she always made sure to do so as discreetly as possible. Almost as if he weren't really a merchant at all... S&L - Knowledge (Streetwise) - Harrot - TN12: 7d6k5 23 3 DoS 4D Knowledge 2B Streetwise +1D Connections If you want to know what a movement will do, you pay attention to the mind behind it. It seemed the crown was stuck merely reacting to the actions of the revolutionaries, and the revolutionaries were guided by Lord Gorman Peake. So he, more than anyone else, would determine future events. So, she made sure to learn what he was up to. Yet she did so very, very carefully. S&L - Gorman Peake - Persuasion (Charm) - TN12: 7d6k5+3+1 19 2 DoS 4D Persuasion 2B Charm +1D Great Bastard +3 Graceful +1 Courteous Of course, the surface was only half the story - at best - with a man like Lord Gorman. S&L - Gorman Peake - Cunning (Logic) - TN12: 6d6k5 23 3 DoS 4D Cunning 1B Logic +1D Connections Another matter of interest to her was House Hightower, and their internal struggle over the regency. In such an environment, a lady like her could make some valuable friends. If she could get access. If she succeeded. If she could find someone interesting enough to be worth the bother. So, that was her focus: the personalities of the players involved, and how she could approach them. S&L - House Hightower - Status (Reputation) - TN12: 8d6k6-1 29 4 DoS 5D Status 2B Reputation +1D Great Bastard -1 Inept Finally, she made sure to pay special attention to Lady Victaria Rhysling, the lady her brother Aerion was currently interested in. S&L - Victaria Rhysling - Awareness (Notice) - TN12: 6d6k5+1 23 3 DoS 4D Awareness 1B Notice +1D Great Bastard +1 Courteous A lesser lady may have been overwhelmed by how many threads she was trying to follow at the same time, but her mobile lifestyle allowed Laena to gather up important information at a far, far faster rate than she'd received even basic gossip back in Starkwood lands. While Bloodraven was unlikely to be worried for his position any time soon, relatively few houses could match her information-gathering capabilities.

Davos did not really know much of what was happening in Westeros these days. The big picture stuff, sure. However, he was about as far from a spymaster as one could get, and what contacts he had developed to funnel useful information to him were all across the narrow sea. Regardless, he did know how to keep his ears open, and knew that if you rub elbows with the right people - especially when the wine starts flowing - then all sorts of interesting tidbits can come forth. He didn't really care one way or the other who sat on the Iron Throne, but his friends and family would likely suffer during a war, no matter which side they were on. Thus to his mind, those looking to start the war were the threat to be addressed. Davos was a military man, and while he had heard that Gormon Peake was most likely the brains behind the rebellion, the one to watch for military matters was Aegor Rivers. Post by Alliser on Mar 19, 2019 9:38:45 GMT 1
"Trust but verify, that is what Lord Florent taught me. It is important to keep an eye on who your friends are, as well as your enemies." Alliser is brushing out daisy in the stables. Simple tasks helped clear his mind and organize his thoughts, and the repetitive motion of moving the steel bristles down her flanks made Daisy's lips quiver. "Sure it might take up lots of time and distract's me from managing my lands, but with this war if I am not careful there will be no more lands to manage." So Alliser continues brushing and ruminates on what he has learned.

Trystane has taken every possible opportunity since leaving Dorne to listen for gossip and news about goings-on in Westeros, and has done his best to ingratiate himself with those around him. Being a newcomer, and a half-Dornish one at that, meant he had a lot of catching up to do, and fast. He was particularly adept at getting people in their cups enough to get chatty with him, and so he caroused his way into getting the start of the lay of the land.
