Tired from his long tilt against the experienced Lord Starling, Roland readied himself for the final, still hopeful.

In the final, Ser Roland is faced with an ignoble opponent. Best described as a drinker and a fiend. Ser Simon Tarly is the man standing at the other end of the lists. His squire is a grizzled man-at-arms that looks as if he can both take and dish out a worse beating than his knight is capable of delivering.

The Seven had denied him a match against Ser Simon at Highgarden - the two had disliked each other ever since the Dornish campaign. Roland had returned Dornish noblewoman taken captive to their family rather than ransoming them - a noble gesture, but one that denied the king's force valuable hostages to exchange for knights taken prisoner. This was a most capable foe, and one that Roland was keen indeed to defeat. He now fought not just to name Alicent queen of love and beauty but to put Ser Simon in the dirt. Time would tell as to whether these noble aims would prove inspirational or a distraction. Noble, eyes fixed. Pragmatic otherwise.

It's with little ceremony Ser Simon sets to the field. He doesn't salute Roland, merely spits on the ground and lowers the visor of his helm. As the trumpet calls the two knights clash with full force, but despite their skills - or perhaps because of it - both knights remain in their seat after a first charge that hopefully would set the tone for this bout.

[OOC: I'll spend a destiny point to give Simon Tarly -1D to his stay in the saddle roll and unhorse him.]

The roaring excitement of the crowd - surely expecting a long drawn battle between two highly skilled jousters turns into a pandaemonium of cheers and jeers as Ser Simon Tarly, seemingly steady in his seat slowly but surely starts slipping out of it.
It is with a humiliating, anti-climatic splat he hits the mud below. He scrambles to his feet and roars in anger, glaring towards his squire. Surely the dumb cunt had failed to fasten his saddle correctly.

Roland: +1 glory, +1 chivalry and +1 coffers in the victor's purse.
Spending a DP ensures that Lady Alicent happens to be present to joyfully receive the crown.

The tourney at Honeyholt had been all Roland could hope for, knowing Alicent was present and bearing her favour had made him desperate to win. He had prevailed at larger events, but this one would always have a special place in his heart: overthrowing the talented but detested Ser Simon Tarly and his peer in skill but opposite in character Lording Starling, then crowning Alicent queen of love and beauty. Honeyholt, for my beloved's honey hair.
There was none of the drama of other choices for queen of love and beauty - almost all present knew who Roland would crown. There would be grief and unhappiness to come for the pair and the realm, but for now Roland simply reflected Alicent's joy as he raised his visor and lowered his lance to present the crown.
[OOC: going with Honeyholt as the venue unless one of the other tournaments wants to claim this, in which case I'll switch to House Florent's Brightwater Keep as both are on the way to Oldtown.
Roland waives the Ransom on Lord Starling's equipment, unless Lord Starling wishes to pay.]
When he received Lord Starling in his tent Roland initially offered to return his Lord's horse and armour without a ransom, noting that his Lord provided horse and arms for Roland, "...while am I no maester, the interest due on both items should cover your own mount and harness. It is the least I can do to thank you for giving me a place at Kingsbridge."
Willem was a proud man, with much to be proud of, and Roland did not press the point if his lord seemed inclined to pay the ransom.

Lady Alicent's smile outshines the sun, but she keeps her affections reserved, the arrangement is an open secret now, so she allows herself to grant him a kiss upon the cheek, no more than propriety would allow her for any other champion winning for her honor, but there is more warmth in this one than others Roland have received. The crowds of course, much prefers Roland over the foul squire-beater.
